Old Whaling Station Adobe

My son had his wedding reception here in April. Beautiful afternoon, beautiful grounds. OWS was easy to work with. Ideal setting, use of the Adobe was a plus for family members who wanted a break from the sun or as it got cooler in evening some moved inside. Grapes of Wrath caterers were wonderful as well. No complaints. Delicious food, served in a timely manner, great staff all around from OWS and Grapes of Wrath.

I am the photographer at a recent wedding there– LOVE this place epic for photos and the host was simple wonderful. The ceremony area was top notch and could here things and reception was easily transformed to a beautiful setting. I would highly recommend checking out this venue as a potential wedding reception site. Its like your downtown Monterey but you feel like your in France countryside. LOVE it.

We had our entire wedding ceremony and reception here, and it couldn’t have been more beautiful. Bobbe is very easy to work with.
My only concern originally was that you either cater the venue yourself or go with their caterer of choice, Grapes of Wrath. My mom had actually insisted on going with GOW and I was not disappointed. I didn’t have to lift a finger the entire day, and it was wonderful. Go with grapes of wrath, there’s a good reason why they are the only caterer allowed there.
Finding the location can be tricky, just make sure to be clear with your guests. Only one guest missed our ceremony, and I see that as his fault for not taking the time and courtesy to read my invitation which had very specific directions and an address!
Overall, the place is absolutely stunning, and it was so wonderful to be married in such a beautiful place.

I had my wedding ceremony here and it was truly amazing. The area is peaceful and tucked away from crowds, but still close to everything. The building is fantastic. I used it for my bridal changing room and had a tea ceremony there. The garden is stunning. It makes for really nice photos. The first brick bld is next door, which made an awesome back drop for group shots. Price is very reasonable. Reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is their exclusive caterer requirement. This made it very challenging as I already had a caterer I was working with for the reception so I ended up having to work with 2 caterers, making it less efficient and more expensive. I wish they would offer a few options or have a process to evaluate off the list caters.

We had our reception here and it was beautiful! We are so happy we chose this place. The setting was romantic and gorgeous and perfect for our small wedding of 100 guests. Any more than that I think would be too crowded for this venue. Everything about OWS was great, Bobbe at OWS was sweet and professional and the cost was great too! It was $ 1000 for a weekday rental (Friday) with $ 500 deposit. This venue included chairs and tables for 100 guests, very awesome! Very affordable and beautiful. Location is a little difficult to find, so make sure you give lots of directions. We included directions in our program and took the bridal party there the day before so they could have an idea of where it was. It is very private and beautiful and almost feels like a «secret garden».

I can’t tell you the countless list of venues I looked at for our June wedding. From Napa, San Francisco, Carmel Valley, Monterey, and all the way down to Cabo. Luckily for my fiancé I only dragged him to a couple. A friend suggested The Old Whaling Station Adobe and as soon as we set foot onto the brick courtyard it was love at first sight. It is charming and peaceful. We were able to see it set up for a wedding of 100, white paper lanterns strewn across the courtyard– really beautiful. After dinner with friends later that night we went back to show them. A family of deer were in the rose garden and I thought to myself «Okay, this is definitely the right place.» The advantage of having your ceremony here is that you can also hold the reception here. This is the ideal place for a wedding of 100 – 110. Any more guests would be just plain uncomfortable. The Junior League of Monterey rents out the site at a reasonable price and the exclusive caterer is Grapes of Wrath Catering in Monterey.
