Casa Munras Hotel & Spa

My boyfriend and I stay here every year for his bday. This year we got one of the newly renovated rooms and it was beautiful love the renovations they did a great job! The room and bathroom are lovely! Well worth all the construction they are dealing with. The beds are so comfy! The front desk staff as well as the staff at Esteban are top notch! We were showed so much hospitality and they were playing the Warriors game (no sound but that was to be expected). All the guests are all so friendly and very personable.
The only reason I deducted a star is because in the bathroom one of the «clean» towels had very visible stains on it and I just felt like the person who put them there must not have been paying attention because the stains (like dirt stain) was facing out for us to see immediately so I just don’t understand how they didn’t see that when putting the towels there. They provided more than enough towels that at least looked like they were actually clean so didn’t bother getting new towels. We stay here every year and that will definitely continue especially after new renovations !

I decided to book a night at the Casa Munras Hotel and Spa for a weekend getaway with my boyfriend to Monterey. Upon arriving to this hotel we were greeted by the staff, they were inviting, and also let us know that it was a perfect quiet weekend for them they offered different deluxe king room options in different area of the property. We chose one on the second floor and were on our way to the room.
This review pertains specifically to the front office Manger Gregg and the room I booked.
I decided to book a deluxe King room with a fireplace. After minutes of arriving to the room, I turned on the fireplace, which was one of the primary features-​hence why I booked this room. The fireplace completely shut off and stopped working after having it on for only 20 minutes.
I called the front desk to make them aware and I was notified that there were no other rooms available and that they had NO ONE on the property who could come take a look at it. This irritated me because I had been told earlier by the front office individual who checked me in that there was an array of deluxe King room options with a fireplace.
The front desk seemed to be extremely inattentive to the issue, which only further upset me.
Upon check out the following morning by Gregg the front desk manager, I told him about the disappointment I had with the room and the service. He apologized for the inconvenience and explained that they always tend to have maintenance on the property especially at 6 pm. Because I had made the reservation through Expedia he mentioned he would contact them to try and compensate us for the terrible experience.
Two months later, I have not heard a word from him, or anyone at casa Munras. I have left several voice messages, because every time I seem to call he is off and no one else can assist me with the matter.
definitely disappointed with this hotel, and will never return. their customer service is terrible. If you make a commitment to a customer at least follow up.

I like this hotel, my girlfriend and I stayed twice recently and it’s a nice get away from home.
We will be back. It’s go beautiful inside. Best bed in a hotel room.

We were very impressed with the this hotel.
Our room was extremely clean with beautiful marble floors in the bathroom floor and walls.
Beds were too comfortable.
They have a tapas style restaurant. Loved the empanadas as you could taste they were freshly cooked and delicious!
They have freshly baked cookies daily as. Aqua Fresca infused.
We recommend this place. I don’t often give 5 stars but they deserve it.

we recently stayed here for a wedding. Part of the hotel was under construction so parking was limited. I requested for an early check in. Although I was unable to check in early when I initially arrived, they were able to get me in by 2:30pm instead of the regular 4pm check in time.
The overall service was pleasant. The front desk was professional and courteous. The rooms were a bit on the smaller side. If you are looking for a quick stay for the weekend, I’d recommend it. There are a lot of other hotel options in Monterey.

Came here for a quick weekend getaway. Our first room was next to super loud people and they painlessly moved us to an upstairs room that was much more quiet. Our room did not smell as some of the other reviewers mentioned.

The Bad:
The room was old and dated (the bed skirt was a mustard colored atrocity)

The photos made it look like we could cuddle up and sip on some wine, however the fire pit was not on (perhaps because it was raining?) and the restaurant was not romantic as it looks in the photos.
The Ugly:
One of our coffee mugs smelled strongly of coffee and had greasy smears on the bottom of the mug.
SUPER THIN WALLS. I could hear people walking up and down the hallways and when our neighbor slammed a door shut it actually rocked the bed headboard so hard my head bounced off. I could not sleep
Would I come back? No. Unfortunately there is a reason why some of us are loyal to the big brand chains… they provide consistently comfortable beds and quiet stays.

The hotel is centrally located between Munras and Fremont which is walking distance from downtown Monterey and about a 30 min walk to the Cannery Row. The hotel has an excellent tapas restaurant that has outdoor and private seating. The menu includes a rich variety of items and the portions are such that they recommend ordering at least two plates for a dinner. The menu is a bit on the pricey side with smaller dishes starting around $ 7 and select platters approaching $ 20. They offer a happy hour with house wines and several cocktails, which paired well with the food. Service was very friendly and attentive — while they can handle separate checks, just realize that tapas are meant to be shared so servers generally don’t worry about placing the platter in front of the person who ordered. The meal is meant to be a rolling affair with much conversation, lasting 1 – 3 hours. If you are into tapas, this place is recommended.

Booked the room directly on the website, AAA rate.
Staff: 5 stars, everyone was great, professional, courteous and helpful.
Location: great as well, 10 minute walk max to Fisherman’s Wharf. There are restaurants within walking distance (5 – 10 min): Thai, Chipotle, Burgers, even a Trader Joe’s.
Room: we had a pet so we got room #140, ground level, and it’s not carpet but laminate which is good with a pet. Room is a decent size and was fully renovated. Beds were nice (we had 2 queens). Bathroom great as well, though tub and tub mat slightly dirty (or old). There is a fridge and a safe, and I guess the room had been renovated that recently that there was still tape (For painting) under the fridge, my puppy was trying to play with it so I had to block that area off for her (Management: please remove that tape on the floor).
It seems that entrance door to the rooms are usually pretty far apart with the next room but our door was right next to the next room’s door, so the person kept entering/​exiting which disturbed our dog, that would be the only down side (And the fact that we could hear the people upstairs walk but that’s to be expected in hotels I suppose). Otherwise pretty clean and nice overall (including TV and free wi-​fi!)
Hotel itself: one of the nicest looking hotels in the area, we are so happy with our choice and the price was decent for off-​season ($ 153 + taxes).
Pets: no welcome package or bed for the pet as mentioned on the website, however we didn’t care as we brought our own supplies. However, they do have a designated grass area which is awesome! They also have poop bags right there (which makes me wonder as to why someone would not pick up their dog’s poop! Come on people!)
Lobby: they have cookies in the PM, water and apples all day. It’s very nice and clean. Front staff is very nice.
Parking: Free! Plenty of parking, we got a spot right in front of our room so it’s pretty convenient.
Pool: there is a pool though it’s too cold right now for me to use it, but it said it was heated.
There are 2 gas stations almost right across the street which was convenient for a midnight snack/​water.
when we walked around Monterey, I saw the other hotels I considered (Portola, Pacific) and it made me very happy with my choice, especially if you are traveling with a pet, this hotel is prefect!

Booked this hotel room using Hotels Tonight app at the last second and this place had the most competitive rate for being a middle-​of-​the-​road Inn on New Year’s.
While construction was on hold for the holiday in several of the buildings being remodeled, there was adequate parking and friendly service to greet us. The room was as described and very clean with a Keurig coffee maker, down pillows, comfy mattress and effective heater for some of the highlights. The walls were paper thin and noise from other patrons was plentiful. Thankfully management helped out with quieting drunk and persistently loud neighbors at 2 am waking up the kids. The pool was heated, but the hot tub was in a separate location.
Location was convenient to downtown, the wharf, and Cannery Row. Would revisit in the future for a quick getaway.

We came here for a Christmas getaway from home. Upon arriving, the lady checking us in gave us a comp upgrade to a king room WITH a fireplace!
When we got to the room we were pleasantly surprised. Nice size room with lots of space, beautifully decorated and clean. Bed was super comfy. The room was so cozy we never wanted to leave.
We had tapas and cocktails that night at Esteban onsite. Renfred was awesome! Great service and delish cocktails and food.
Other bonus is that the location is great… close to great restaurants and not far to drive to the waterfront and Cannery Row area. We will definitely be back to Casa Munras.

Nice property with newly renovated rooms.
My fiancé and I stayed here for an evening a couple of weeks ago, and our experience was great. The receptionist at the front desk was really friendly. The rooms weren’t big but spacious enough to be comfortable. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was a decent size. The only downside was the a/​c that wasn’t working. But fortunately for us, it was a cool day and we also had a spare standing fan available.
It’s located close to downtown so it’s in a convenient location to walk to restaurants, bars, etc. Plus there’s a Denny’s right across the street… perfect place to stop by for drunk food after hitting the bars. :)
The nightly rate was reasonable as well.
We’ll be back for future stays in Monterey.

Casa Munras es un hotel agradable.
My family and I stayed over night at this hotel, which we discovered was within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. And though our stay was short, we were satisfied with the amenities and comfort of our room.
CHECK-​IN: Quick and efficient. And early for that matter. After a two hour drive from San Francisco, we arrived at the hotel at 1130 (check in is at 3pm) with the hope that they would hold our bags while went to explore the city. The lady at the check-​in desk was very welcoming and informed us that early check-​in was possible. She was friendly, polite, and extremely efficient. She took our vehicle info for parking purposes, gave us directions to our room, and provided a map of the surrounding area.
Amenities of our ROOM included:
*Free wifi
*Flat screen television
*Two Queen beds
*Desk area
*Ample closet space and drawers
The room was clean, very cozy, and was a decent size. Again, we only stayed one night, but found everything about the room to be very satisfactory. No complaints.
The hotel property is comprised of various two story buildings with a pool centrally located in the middle. There is parking throughout the property, and therefore you could literally park right in front of your room if you’re staying on the first floor. A restaurant, Esteban’s, is located right off the lobby and also has an outdoor area with a fire pit. We ventured to their Esteban’s during their happy hour, which is from 500−630pm.
Lastly, aside from the comfortable rooms and efficient service at check-​in, another quality of this hotel we appreciated with its proximity to various shops and restaurants. This was a definite plus/​benefit in my humble opinion. Also, Cannery Row is short drive away.
BOTTOM LINE: A satisfactory overnight stay at this hotel. Great location. Comfortable room.

Casa Munras Hotel knows luxury. My first time here, My fiancé and I had the king suite with in room fireplace and hot tub and we have never been happier! The hotel was also kind enough to lend us some wine glasses so we could enjoy our bottle of red. The second time I’ve been here, I stayed in a king size room and it was lovely. I highly recommend staying here and feeling like a princess.

What a great boutique motel/​spa in the historic Monterey area…
They are currently giving the rooms a refresh, and we got a 2x queen that was just finished!
It was amazing, a cute, clean, comfortable room, with comfy beds, nice tv and dvd player, and updated bathroom.
The staff was the most polite and helpful if any I have delt with in recent trips. They were amazing! Helping on dinner & tourist attractions ideas.
The attached restaurant was good for breakfast, we ate on Alvarado Street for the dinners.
The historic area (and a ton of restaurant & bars) is about a 5 minute walk… My fitbit logged it at about 700 steps.
Cannery Row area is about 1 mile away…
But there is a trolley stop just 2 blocks from Casa Munras that run a loop there for free!
We will stay here again!

I’ve been to Monterey plenty of times, though usually have rented a placed through VRBO. Instead I wanted to have a mini getaway. After scanning all the hotel sites, that allowed dogs and didn’t ask for the bank… and weren’t booked — yep it was last minute, Casa Munras seemed to be the best bet. Going to a place that is unknown or doesn’t have a «name» is always tricky. However, this place is going in my must see if they are booked for future visits to the Monterey area. Its location is great!!! Accessible to Pacific Grove, downtown, the wharf, and a variety of other places. We didn’t try the spa or salon onsite but maybe in the future. Esteban, their restaurant, serves a great happy hour… plus, I love a fire pit.
The room was clean and homey. I called ahead to make sure they could provide a doggie bowls and they put it in the room. The bed was heavenly, which made it very hard to get out of. The pillow top mattress was divine. The pillows were Goldilocks level… not too soft, not too hard — juuuust riiiight. The sheets didn’t even feel like normal hotel sheets. The comforter was so heavy but great for snuggling in and getting warm. I love that they provided a DVD player in rooms… was great to catch up on my Netflix movies. Also, real glasses and mugs were a great perk!
As someone that stays in many hotels all over the country and world, I couldn’t think of one bad thing to say. Honestly, I’m still racking my brain as I type this. Oh well… Enjoy!

Nice hotel. I was here on business, but I will keep the place in mind for a weekend getaway. Very reasonably priced, clean, well appointed rooms. Decent location. Professional friendly staff. Lots of available power and USB outlets for recharging. Free WiFi was strong and came in handy. Nice flat screen TV. Great pool. Quiet. Not a 5 star resort mind you, but deserving of a 5 star Unilocal review, except for 2 issues:
1) The shower experience is lacking. I know we are in a drought, but still, give me a little water pressure instead of the weak dribble. And the tub doesn’t drain, so I am ankle deep in slimy shower water at the end. No bueno.
2) Weak ass, one ply toilet paper. Yuk. Really? Supposed to be a Resort, not a Bus Station bathroom. Buy some decent TP!!!

Was this place an awesome birthday surprise!
I was brought here for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. Casa Munras was just the right hotel to stay at for a relaxing weekend in Monterey.
For starters, the location of Casa Munras is great! It’s a few blocks from the downtown area and relatively close to Fisherman’s Wharf.
The hotel staff were very helpful. The gentleman who booked us in picked a second floor room overlooking the pool. Nice little view.
The one downfall of the hotel is noise. The walls are fairly thin and the windows are dated, so you may have to deal with noisy people in the parking lot. A quick holler at them and they’ll quite down (hopefully). Had to shout at a group who was talking loudly at 12am! Sheesh go to sleep people, or at least go inside…
But I would definitely come back to Casa Munras! The hotel is great and they have these little touches that make the places more inviting. If you go down to the front desk, they have a small selection of DVDs you can borrow for the night! There’s also a fairly comprehensive binder with menus from a variety of local restaurants in the Monterey-​Pacific Grove-​Carmel area! Two very helpful assets for out of towners like myself.

First time staying here, but I can tell they’ve done a good job upgrading the property. There is a very relaxed «resort» vibe. They offer an on-​site spa, bicycle rentals, and a cute little restaurant with a daily prix fixe menu and a fire pit. Our only gripe was the «heated» pool means pumping warmish water into the cold pool! Other details we appreciated: complimentary cookies and agua fresca in the lobby, helpful staff, very nice toiletries, and the fruit in the small fitness center.
We stayed in one of the older rooms, but it was still very comfortable and had a Keurig machine. The place seemed to be fully booked even on a weekday in the slow season. It’s a good location near downtown and a short distance to the aquarium. I wouldn’t mind going back for a romantic weekend!

Not sure why people are giving this place such bad reviews. Perhaps it has to do with the pre vs post renovated rooms.
Frankly, I would definitely stay here again. Front desk was VERY friendly and their main lobby was lovely.
Our room was great. Very quiet and lovely. I think it was renovated very recently; everything seemed in amazing condition. Nice bathroom with amenities, flat screen TV, clean room, soft sheets and comfy bed. What more can you ask for?
Casa Munras — you should watch Hotel Impossible. People just dump bed spreads and bed pillows on the floor. Those are extra touches that aren’t needed. :)
The price was fair and it has an FANTASTIC location. Nice walk downtown and to the pier. Fantastic.

The walls are so thin. you hear ppl upstairs and downstairs… It gave me a motel feeling!

Hotel excelente em Monterey para quem está de carro. O quarto é bom e muito limpo. Fica ao lado do Denny’s o que permite tomar aquele café da manhã americano. Andando dá para chegar tranquilamente a outros restaurantes. A piscina do hotel é aquecida e excelente. Este tem frigobar no quarto. Não tem café da manhã mas você pode solicitar no restaurante do hotel. O preço do café da manhã no hotel não é ruim e é mais «light» que no Denni’s. A TV no quarto é enorme ! Estacionamento gratuito.
