Best Cuts

I would highly recommend this salon! Most of the reviews are for the owners, Mina and Jila, so we know they’re fantastic, but I’d say you are safe going to any of the girls there. I saw Sam last week and she did a great job on my asymmetrical lob. She knows what she’s doing and pays close attn to detail. She made my hair look sleek and healthy again.

Mina and Jila are great! Mina gives me a great color and Jila does an awesome job cutting my hair. Prices are very reasonable. This was my second appointment and I will be coming back for sure!

If you want to come here for a haircut be ready to wait longer than you would need to wait for your doctor’s appointments… An hour or MORE! I’m not even sure what is the point in making an appointment here since they don’t even honor your appointment time! Don’t be fooled by their high reviews. There are better places around with better use of your time.

I’m visiting from out of town and desperately needed a haircut for an event I had to attend today. I was a bit nervous because you never know what to expect when you go to a new salon for the first time, and if you needed to look nice for something but were unwise enough to wait until the DAY OF to get your haircut, then you have to sort of hope and pray that things go well so that you don’t have to explain to everyone why your hair looks like your 2 year old cut it.
Well, I walked in this morning as soon as it opened and Jila greeted me pleasantly. When I told her I wanted a trim, she looked at my hair and immediately identified the type of haircut I had had before. I then showed her one sort of vague picture of what I wanted. She then proceeded to give me the quickest and BEST haircut of my life, all while keeping up a very interesting conversation about the world! When she was done, my hair looked EXACTLY how I had wanted it to look! It was as if she looked at the picture I had shown her, looked at my face, and cut the style I wanted but modified to suit my facial features. I think that’s a quality only the best haircutters have. Most will look at a picture and try to copy it EXACTLY without regard to your facial structure instead. She got it EXACTLY the right length and she did it quickly and expertly. I was done in about 15 minutes or less. When I got back, my husband did a double take and said, «I can’t believe you got such a good haircut that fast! Maybe I should go get a haircut right now too!» Not only that, but I have thick, coarse Asian hair that tends to be tricky to cut. I usually only go to Asian salons to get haircuts if I can, just because if a stylist doesn’t know how to cut Asian hair, it can turn out pretty poorly. Jila worked in Thailand as a stylist for some years, and she KNOWS HOW TO CUT ASIAN HAIR, for any of you who might need that. She even explained to me the difference and how important it is to cut it EXACTLY right with no mistakes because mistakes show in Asian hair. There to me is the sign of someone who knows their craft well — when they can articulate what it is that sets various situations apart and how they address each kind of situation.
Jila is AMAZINGLY talented as a hairstylist, and very kind and sweet as well. The prices are more than reasonable. I was so impressed with her work. I’m considering waiting until next year if I’m back in the area to get my next haircut, she was that good! Go here for your next cut, you won’t be sorry!

This has to be the best kept secret on the Peninsula! The salon is very clean and simple and the ladies who own and run the shop are very friendly, efficient and kind. Getting an appointment is easy — they were able to get me in within a couple days at a time that was convenient for me.
I just had another skillfully done haircut and this time I had color done. I asked for my graying hair to have color woven in so that some of the gray is still there. I appreciated that I was listened to and that the color was applied with care. The result was better than I had hoped! My hair looks vibrant and completely natural. And the price was incredibly reasonable. I have paid significantly more for a cut and color in the past.

I have thick, wavy hair and after over 6 months of not getting it cut, my hair was very much in need of TLC. Thankfully, I was able to get a same-​day appointment here. Jila had the expertise to tame my long hair and give me the cut that I wanted: thinned out, with layers, and slightly shorter on the back. After chatting with Mina while she shampooed my hair, I returned a few days later for her to highlight my hair and she did a fabulous job! I have jet black hair and didn’t want my hair too light, just traditional highlights; she listened to what I wanted and I’m so happy with the results. I’ll definitely be back!

I just got one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had! Used the reviews to find this salon. And I was very pleased with the results. Jila was very professional. She not only cut my hair exactly the way I asked her to do, but improved on that as well. I will definitely be returning.

A few months ago I got highlights for the first time in 10 years, and MIna did a great job helping me to find the right color and making sure it looked natural like I requested. As usual Jila gave me a wonderful haircut. I will be back again soon looking for a new fun haircut and more color.

I was lucky enough to have the sister combo, and let tell you everything you read about them is true. They are so amazing, I had an amazing cuts an amazing color and all for well under what I normally pay for a haircut. The listen to you, reset you, and no how to deal with abnormal hair issues.

I am bewildered by the 5 star rating for this business. I arrived on time for an appointment. I wanted a simple hair cut (a few inches off and layers that would give me more volume) and a deep conditioning treatment. The stylist barely looked at my hair and didn’t ask me what I wanted until she was done washing my hair. While my conditioning treatment sat in my hair, my stylist took 3 customers, far too long of a wait time for me. Another stylist felt bad that I was waiting so she dried my hair for me and then the first stylist cut it dry! Not ok. Almost 2 hours after arriving I left with a haircut that was adequate but not well blended or shaped.

Jila has been beautifully styling my difficult hair for several years. While she and her sister Mina have maintained a very high level of professionalism, they’ve managed to keep their prices reasonable. They’re very competent at both cut and color.
If you visit the salon, you’ll see how many regular customers they have. Men, women, children — all very loyal and attached to the friendly staff who always seem to do their best to please the customers.
I’ve seen some really great hair walk out of this shop!

I was in need of a trim and have not yet found a regular stylist since moving here. I called to make an appt, but Sam said I could come in and she could fit me in in about 30 mins. Sam was very professional, paid close attention to detail. Great price for a cut. I will definitely return.

Walked in this afternoon (expecting a wait time), straight to the chair! No questions were asked about my haircut. I went in 1 time prior and she remembered how I like it cut. Really…1 time and you’ve already remembered? I’ve visited other «chain» hair cutting places and they have no idea who I am and absolutely no idea how I want my hair cut.
Jila is now the only one who can cut my hair!

A great group of ladies who are friendly and careful. Their desire is to make you look your best. It was very reasonable pricing and the service was super.

I have been to Best cuts 4 times now, I have had 2 hair cuts, had my hair colored and highlighted twice and had my brows threaded once. Every time I leave the place happy and feeling pretty! The two sisters are so sweet, knowledgeable and the shop is clean and bright. I heard about Best cuts from a client of theirs when I complimented her hair, and I get many compliments on my hair as well. Jila usually does the cutting while Mina is the expert on color. The price is very reasonable as well and there are other stylist working that I have noticed give beautiful cuts to satisfied customers. I am so sad to be moving away from a terrific set of hairdressers!

I’m a general old-​school barber frequenter, so whenever I walk into a setting that gives me the salon vibe I usually turn and run. This time, however, my options re limited, it’s memorial day and everywhere is closed. Let’s give it a shot. Sat down as soon as I walked in and a wonderful lady Jilia came to the rescue. She was super friendly, had me outta there in ~20m, and dear lord in heaven can that woman cut hair, I was absolutely thrilled when leaving, plan on returning, and recommend it to any and all. I forgot to mention, very inexpensive.

Over the years I’ve tried a range of options for haircuts, from salons to supercuts — usually with mixed results. From a man’s perspective, when you find a stylist you can trust, you stick with them. And Jila has become my go-​to here on the Monterey Peninsula.
Jila is pleasant, pays attention to detail and leaves me looking my best with every visit. I highly recommend her for men’s haircuts.

I was ready for a really big change — from long hair to very short — and Jila delivered. I showed her a few pictures from Pinterest and she asked a few questions to make sure we were on the same page.
Jila, Mina, and Alyssa work here at what looks like a humble salon, but they’re very talented. Jila and Mina are sisters. Jila is the cutting queen while Mina specializes in color (they’re totally cool with you going to both of them). Alyssa is younger and has recently returned from maternity leave. They have good rapport — none of the drama that many salons do.
What’s more, you can’t beat their prices. They gave me an even better deal as a first time customer. And I was assured if I have any heartburn about the cut and want any changes in the next week, to call and and come back in and Jila won’t take it personally. I don’t think I’ll need to do that, but it’s nice that they’re so easy-​going and personable.
Also, they don’t oversell product. There’s stuff available, but they don’t try to shove it down your throat, which I appreciate.
Note: they accept credit/​debit cards but there is no room for tip on the receipt so bring cash for that (or maybe ask if you can add it to the total). Luckily I had some on me for that but I would have been mortified if I hadn’t.

My 7 year old son has never had a good haircut really and I was desperate. Came upon this place via Unilocal and decided to give it a try. I am so HAPPY I did!!! Jilli took us as a walk in and spent a lot of time with me discussing what I hoped for in a haircut…
Then she delivered the BEST haircut ever! My son was grinning ear to ear… he felt so good about himself and his awesome haircut. I highly recommend this little shop for the kind and very skilled hair designers there. It’s small, clean and inexpensive. Love it here!!!
