Anthony DeMers Classical Guitar

I’ve been taking classical music instruction for the entirety of my life and have gone through a succession of music teachers. Anthony stands out among all of them. His talent for teaching, coupled by his natural passion for guitar makes for a wonderful learning experience. Every lesson had the perfect balance of instruction, theory, and ear training, leading me to become a more rounded student of music. He is a keen reader, as he could tell whenever I was tired of practicing a given piece and we’d move onto something else. Anthony is a naturally warm person. I’m convinced he could work with virtually anyone. I never felt uncomfortable to ask a question, no matter how trivial or stupid it seemed to me at the time. I truly enjoyed my three years of instruction with Anthony. I only had to stop because I moved. He fostered a lifelong love for classical guitar, a niche in the guitar world I had known virtually nothing of before taking lessons. If you ever had an inkling to study any of the following: guitar, classical music, music in general, do not hesitate to take lessons with Anthony.

I have received instruction from Anthony for about 6 years and given that amount of time I am extremely satisfied where I am. I started with very little background in the guitar and I am now playing intermediate to advanced pieces. Additionally I have been a member of a guitar ensemble for the last 5 years and that experience has been very enjoyable. I am quite amazed that even after 6 years of instruction I am still able to walk away from a lesson with something new.
I believe Anthony is capable of working with any age group and is especially effective with younger people. He is very patient and positive and is unexcelled in his music knowledge. He is an excellent listener with a knack for figuring out ways to improve performance.
I have seen Anthony grow as an instructor and have directly benefitted from that. He knows when to push a student and when to just have fun. I would most highly recommend him as an instructor to anyone.

I have had a succession of classical guitar music teachers through the years, including two ex-​students of Andres Segovia. Anthony is my current music teacher and one of the best I have had. Anthony encourages me to keep my eyes on the music, and not on the fretboard — which has improved my posture and music reading ability tremendously.
I also like that he focuses intently on the lesson, wasting no time. I am inspired to practice and demonstrate my growing proficiency each week. This is what I want in a teacher. Anthony is not just a classical guitar teacher — he is a true musician, using the classical guitar as chosen instrument.
Anthony also produces two student concerts every year, and although scary, allowed me to perform in front of a warmly receptive audience on several occasions.
I do not live in Monterey, so Anthony teaches me remotely using video chat through my computer. It works like a charm and I don’t have to leave home.
Anthony is a serious music teacher for the serious classical guitarist. I recommend him without any reservation.
