First time been this place when we travel to LA. Because I saw this restaurant on Unilocal that is why I was come. Cold noodles is ok not as great as I thought. BBQ Corn is horrible as hard as a rock. I think I won’t be here anymore.

Read the review, probably some people not from northeast of China. Let me tell you, this is best restaurant in USA, the food maybe a little salty, but I like it:)

There Korean cold noodle is amazing! It taste just like ones I had in China growing up. The noodle is fresh and the flavor cannot be beat. I’m not sure what all the negative review are about. They are surely not people who know anything about shenyang cuisine.

Wow, this is the worst Chinese style BBQ in the area. Everything is reheated, burned, dry and salty. And I believe they probably just fried them instead of BBQ.

The cold noodle is rubbery, either the ingredient or cooking went Sth wrong. The spicy beef offal is a freaking joke, they should call it spicy beef fat. you deserve to close down.

Worst customer service I’ve ever seen. I’ve been coming here since they first opened, everything was perfect, then it started going downhill. Not to mention about the small portions they all became and raised prices. I decided to give it another chance, which I totally regretted, not only the dishes are extremely salty,(other customers complained about the same thing at the same time) the attitude I received from the owner and one of the servers is simply a joke. They started raising their voices at us and said that’s how it’s supposed to be(I’m from HK… and my gf is from Shenyang…), we were like, can we cancel it then? We barely touched it, the owner(with short hair) said NO, you cannot return it, and when we asked for the check, they simply ignored us and I had to keep asking for it, and when we asked for the leftovers to be packed Togo, the server came back with Togo boxes and threw at us and told us «你自己打包(pack it yourself)» You are in the U.S. now, not China, good customer services is how you keep returning customers here. I’ve been in the restaurant business for over 5 years, never have I seen a server and The Owner argued and raised their voices to a customer. She even mentioned«你們也常來(you guys come here often)», and this is the customer service I get??? Never coming back again for sure, totally disappointed.

The place was empty when we went there for lunch on a Tuesday, so we were a bit worried, but the food was really fresh, and definitely authentic. They answer the phone in Chinese, if that means anything.

The food here is mediocre… The Chinese style sauerkraut tastes kind of weird. They’ve also got their famous cumin lamb skewers which were just ok. Beef rolls were good but not as great as the ones from 101 Noodle Express. We ordered a nice cold salad made of bean noodles, cucumber, and veggies of the like, which was pleasant on a hot day. However, the service is not super friendly. Probably won’t be back anytime soon.

This place looks rund down as hell. Theres cables dangling everywhere from the Tv’s Mounted on the walls and the walls look kinda grungy. Service is pretty non-existent, after getting seated and handed a menu, nobody came to check back on us for at least 10 minutes, before we had to get up to tell them to come over and take our order. After the food arrives, nobody came back to check in on us during the whole meal, had to wave walk around and wave down the chatting workersin the middle of the restaurant. Food wise, most things are kinda greasy and quite salty. I ordered a bunch of skewers to go with the entrees thinking oh it’s Northeastern cuisine and things would come out from the grill… These guys DEEPFRYTHEIRMEATSKEWERS. Not what I was expecting at all. The cold noodles were actually quite tasty and i liked the kimchi they put into the dish. You also get 2 – 3 tiny tiny nickel sized pieces of meat in your bowl of noodles. TL:DR = Rundown, bad service, greasy/salty food. but the cold noodles are decent.

This place is one of my favorite restaurant in LA. Their food is delicious and affordable. Too bad, I can’t use my credit card to pay the bill. But most of the Chinese restaurants are cash only, already used to it. If u r a Korean food fan, try sweet and sour noodles. Their noodles can compare with almost all Korea town places. Other than that, the follows are tasty as well: triple delight sautéed po, pork tendens and corn sa, dry tofu with meat and hot pepper, vinegar potato silk, cold dish with glass noodles… I don’t like their translation. If u r not Chinese, I don’t really think u can understand. They would just give picture menus. The bad thing is this place is so dirty. I always think they pour the oil to the floor. Just kidding ! Service is just like the environment. Even though I still like this restaurant a lot !

Came for the sweet and sour cold noodles stayed for the other great dishes. Shen Yang’s chefs must be cooking with some magic especially when they apply it to their Kung pao eggplant dish. They make their eggplant so deliciously crispy plus the peanuts add a great texture and the chopped jalapenos are mix of mild hot and very fragrant floral. This is definitely a dish to try and I thank my friend Felly for introducing it to me. It’s never crowded when I go which is surprising bc their everything I’ve tried so far has been yummy. Their stirfried vegetables are really delicious and in nice large portions. In addition to the eggplant I’ve tried their mixed mushroom, curry fish dish, and garlic greens — all served piping hot and really good over white rice. Parking is limited but available in the back and they’re very close to the intersection of Garvey and Atlantic. Bookended by Atlantic Times Square near the freeway, Cooks Tortas further north and so many great restaurants in between on Atlantic Boulevard, Shen Yang restaurant is part of the most delicious street in San Gabriel Valley that I know of.

i don’t give five stars. this place is one of the few places in the SGV that specializes in dongbei regional cuisine, but their claim to fame IMO is their rendition of korean style cold noodles. these noodles that everyone else raves about are IMO even better than yu chun’s over in K-town(altough yu chun does offer the hot broth that shen yang doesn’t). they mix each bowl as you order so you can request no MSG *and* at your request they will include ice cubes but the default is no ice. as for the rest of the menu, the quality has varied. you can’t really mess up skewers which are generally coated in cumin anyway, but everything else has varied in quality. the first time we ordered the cumin chicken bones(a dong bei specialty) they were terrific, but on a subsequent trip they seemed under-spiced. i can’t testify to the authenticity of the fake race dog meat other than to say that it’s really pork, prepared to soft jerky consistency with a slightly gamy aftertaste. the menu has its share of words that aren’t misspelled as much as spelled the way that they’re typically pronounced by the staff.

I really enjoyed the sweet and sour cold noodles here! On the menu it is labeled as #1 Slaty noodles or something like that. The whole menu is very difficult to figure out as they translated the English from an online translator. Lol much! For the record I am not really a fan of Korean cool noodles. So I’m glad it’s not exactly like it. I really like the temperature the way it is and am glad they don’t make it too cold or watery by adding ice cubes. The amount of sweet, savory, and sourness is perfect for my palate as I usually don’t like eating all that flavor at once. The bowl of noodles will cost $ 7.50 and it really fills you up. In fact, one bowl can feed two people. All the skewers I had were delicious! They’re going for that dry style but the rub is great on it. I loved the chicken heart and beef tendon the most! Even the gizzard was great but the lamb was the more plain out of the ones ordered. When ordering skewers, you must order at least a combo of five at a time. This place is pretty much cash only. The first time I came here, the lady clearly stated there was a $ 25 minimum for credit card. However, the next time I went she said $ 30 minimum which left me a bit irritated. For that reason, the puzzling menu, and overall type of service, they get four stars. They did state that they accept any amount for debit cards. All the restaurants at this location seem to be short lived but I really hope this one can be different. The food is tasty and I hope they are here to stay.

You can park in the parking lot where it says parking for Happy Restaurant. Your bill needs to be over $ 30 if you want to use your credit card. You need to order at least 5 skewers if you order skewers. The cold noodles(sweat [their spelling, not mine] and tangy) noodles were okay. First, they weren’t really cold. A few ice cubes would have been great. The noodles themselves were a little on the overcooked side and the broth left a weird feeling in my throat. Since they leave out so many«dashida(Korean soup stock)» cans out, I can only assume that their broth is not entirely cooked from beef bones, but rather mixed using at least some of the Korean soup stock. It also definitely has a lot of white vinegar. I liked the lamb, chicken gizzard, and fimbulla skewers, although, they are definitely not cooked to order. The skewers were barely warm when we received them. The dry tofu with meat and hot pepper was a tofu skin made to be like noodles with pork and jalepenos. Since we got the tofu skin with the fimbulla, I was totally over the skin. I would not order this dish again. Bordering on 2 stars.

Really great. I like Korean food. It’s a local Chinese food but has a North Korean influence. So the sweet sour cold noodle soup is great. Unique flavor yet familiar to namyung.

If you’re a fan of korean cold noodles, Shen Yang is a great addition to the neighborhood that serves something very similar to it. We ate here the other day and it was surprisingly pretty packed inside. Not the best dining environment though since the restaurant in this building constantly changes while everything else stays the same. dirty carpets, ugly tables and chairs… with a really mainland china clientele. The menu is really hard to read due to bad translations. They could really use a picture menu! The food, however, is really good and affordable. The cold noodles easily compares to places I’ve had in K-Town. If I could change anything, I think the noodles would be better if it were a tad bit colder and a tad less vinegary. But ain’t complaining… I ate and slurped the entire bowl. I ordered the sweet and sour cold noodles btw, not sure how the salty one tastes. But if you like vinegar, you’ll like this. Skewers are cheap! .99c for super spicy lamb skewers. If you’re up for it. TRYTHECHICKENHEARTS! They were, quite possibly, the star of the meal. And a heads up, buy 2 pitchers of beer(~$ 9 each), get 1 pitcher free. They have a few beers on tap.

Shenyang is a city in Manchuria. Look up its history on Wikipedia. Pretty interesting. Now for the food, the cold noodle is the most authentic I have ever ate in the United States. That’s all.

Naeng myeon, 2 flavors(salty/“slaty”, or «sweet and tangy»), house-pressed but there’s only 1 pasta maker so the buckwheat style isn’t’ available yet. Better, and CHEAPER, than anything in K-town. Ask for no-MSG as every bowl’s broth is individually mixed. 2 styles of chicken racks(center spine + misc bones), smoked, or cumin fried. And finally, for those who love peasant food from Donbei: noodle goosepimples. I despise that shit. It’s like quinine to children born during the Industrial Revolution. Just don’t speak Korean, cuz they don’t play that.
