Description

Specialties

We specialize in artisanal drinks & support local businesses. We make our own Chai from scratch! We use more artisanal methods of brewing coffee such as Pourovers and Cold brew. 80% of our food items are from local businesses and our coffee beans are roasted & picked weekly from local coffee roasters!

History

Established in 2011.

It all started in 2010 when we were looking for a way to bring our blend of Chai to our local community. We wanted something mobil, interesting looking and easy to move around. Towards the end of 2010 we had our ChaiCycle out on the road. A bicycle trailer attached to a bicycle!

If you remember the winter of 2010, you know it was a tough one. Yet we were out there serving commuters at Walnut station even during snowy days. You could hardly see our face with all the gear we were wearing to stay warm outside. Still it was tough.

In the beginning of 2011 we were offered to take over a location inside the lobby of the Bay St train station. It was a no brainer for us and til this day we are grateful to have had the previous owners finance the purchase to us, otherwise it would not have been possible at the time.

The ChaiCycle still serves the Walnut st train station commuters during the morning rush time of 6 – 8:30am

Meet the Business Owner

Ricardo D.

Business Owner

Also known as The Chai guy, Ricardo moved to Montclair in 2008 after meeting his lovely wife and partner Angela at a Yoga studio he used to own in Warwick, NY.

Ricardo and Angela started Yogic Chai in 2007, after Ricardo had come back from a spiritual trip in India where he became addicted to the brew. Chai in India was nothing like the ‘chai latte’ you would find in the USA. Yes it was sweet, not as sweet, but it had a strong spiced flavor that complemented the milk and black tea based drink.

Upon returning to the USA, Ricardo was not able to find a blend of chai at grocery and specialty stores he was pleased by.

Recognizing there was a lack of real chai in the market place and a demand for such, Ricardo and Angela started Yogic Chai in 2008 as an online business, supplying the demand for authentic blends of Masala Chai nationwide.

In 2010 they won their 1st award for best Chai at the North American Tea Championship and continued to win 1st place for next 2 consecutive years.
