Sharron Miller’s Academy For the Performing Arts

Concerning the children’s classes, it seems this place has sacrificed quality teachers for quantity. They have proven to me that they are inexperienced and careless therefore I do not reverend sending your little ones here.

First, I don’t understand the review about Sharron. She has always been a sweetheart and a great teacher. As an adult student who doesn’t have time to travel to NYC but still wants great classes/​instructors, this dance school is perfect for me. I have taken tap on Wed. and Friday night 8 – 9 and have no complaints. so much fun. The ballet teachers are very good also– Buddy, June and Hillary. There are also some good deals on groupon/​livingsocial but I would pay full price.

wow where do I begin with this place?! This dance studio is so diverse with what they offer! From ballet, hip-​hop, jazz & modern, tap, flaminco (sp?), senior citizen exercise, mommy & me classes… & etc.!! I mean this place is an all at one joint! I’ve done most of the classes and for the non-​pro dancers (as myself) it is always such a fun and learning experience each time I’m here!
I think the prices are extremely fair compared to other surrounding studios and they aren’t shy with Groupon either. The teachers are always a charm, and the staff in general are so down to earth and always make you feel welcomed! and the former Alvin Ailey, veteran of Broadway herself, Sharron Miller is a doll! She’s so cute lol :3 and is always very warm and welcoming to chat with.
I’m pretty surprised there aren’t more reviews for this place since they’re pretty well known. I agree with Stephanie L., Buddy is a sweety and always focuses and assists with the correct technique… as far as Suzanne M.‘s review… i totally disagree because I’ve taken Ms. Miller’s Adult class and i have ABSOLUTELY NO RHYTHM, and her patience with me is ridiuclous! lol Besides, if you look at Suzanne’s reviews, she ONLY leaves negative reviews anyways lol!
They even have a dance store! which is such a convenience since there aren’t much in the area.
So yes I def recommend this place, just make sure you get their early because parking can be hard since it’s right off Bloomfield ave!

It has a taken me a long time to write this review. My child – now a big kid – took several dance classes here over the years, and didn’t love them. I thought they could’ve been slightly more interesting, but didn’t have a huge problem with them – just didn’t feel WOWed enought to continue. Then I started to dance again, and decided to take an adult modern dance class with Ms. Miller. I was never a great modern dancer, and was certainly rusty, but her teaching style could’ve come from a book about how NOT to teach/​inspire/​motivate. First, she started almost every class BY DISSING the «entitled» parents (mothers) of the children who take classes there. I mean, time and again, she lit into her more «privileged» patrons on the whole as spoiled, bitchy, whiny people. I found this not only a depressing way to begin each class, but also rather ironic. Even worse, when she stopped ranting and class began, Ms. Miller would single out people like me, who were not great dancers but were really trying to have fun and learn. there was no grace or patience in her tone. she seemed to have «pets” – young adults who had been taking classes with her forever (even though this was pegged as a ‘beginner’ class) and who were much more advanced than your average person off the street. after a few classes, I realized, frankly, she wasn’t open to new people, to people who love dance but needed real instruction and encouragement – not needling or shaming. So I will never take a class with Ms. Miller again, and certainly will never let my child (who has now become interested in dance again and will be training elsewhere) or recommend this dance studio to anyone. (And I’ve met many people who feel the same way.) Too bad-​dancing is supposed to be joyful, not a drag.

Buddy is very sweet and extremely patient with my total lack of ballet talent. highly recommend the adult classes for beginners and amateurs.
