History

Established in 2002.

My love of traditional black and white photography and my desire and ability to connect with people (and dogs!) launched Best Friend Photography. My initial focus was on dog portraiture, but we quickly expanded to include families. We are now the leading portrait studio in the area concentrating on black and white portraits. This is our specialty – we don’t photograph events or parties. We are continually seeking to improve our art and the craft of portraiture.

A great session starts with a careful planning session. We will get together and chat about your family and what touches you. Doing so helps us create portraits for you that are deeply personal and capture the essence and spirit of the ones you love.

Meet the Business Owner

Michael S.

Business Owner

I recently saw an ad for Apple’s iPad. An Apple engineer said a major design goal was to have the technology disappear. Make the experience of using an iPad so simple that all you see and feel is the experience of whatever app you are using (disclaimer: I own an iPad; they very much achieved their design goal).

«What a great way to approach our photography,» I thought. Our studio, while not overly complex, does contain some really cool lighting technology and my camera probably has more computing power than the early astronauts used to land on the moon (don’t google this; I’m just guessing).

My goal is to establish a connection with the person in front of me. Yes, there’s a sizable camera between us and some big lights all around but by establishing a genuine connection we strive to have our technology «disappear» too. The results can be magical and we are able to capture those moments and really create something special, something timeless.
