For Applegate itself, 2.5 stars. For the Graham Central Station flavor, I give 5+ stars. If I’m coming here, that’s for sure what I’m ordering. I strayed from the path once to be ~adventurous~ and was filled with instant regret. Graham Central is packed with crunchy bits of graham cracker coated in chocolate, and it couldn’t be any more perfect. It doesn’t really need any toppings but if I’m going big, hot fudge is my choice. I know it doesn’t sound that great but just give it a try, I promise you’ll be hooked!!! Other than that… the place is really cute, decked out like a big red barn with plastic cows out front so I’m sure kids love it. The lines get very long and they are SLOW as hell. We started going later to avoid the massive lines, think 9:30 — 10pm. Also, I have always noticed a funky smell while waiting on line. My best guess is that its ice cream that dripped on the pavement, rotted in the sun, and never got cleaned up. My last gripe is the prices — what the hell? For two small/medium ice creams you’ll pay about $ 11, which I find absurd. I love the one flavor they have so I’ll keep coming, but that’s crazy. Will never really compare to my favorite ice cream place on the planet which is unfortunately 90 minutes away(cough, HOLYCOW in REDHOOK, NY) and still serves $ 1 cones, AND makes their own.

I’ve been going here since I was 2 and I’m very nestalgic about the place, but praticality has to outweigh nestalgia. This year they have taken their already overpriced ice cream and basically rubbed our faces in it. They have taken last years children’s cup and now call it the«one scoop» cup, picture attached. The cup cost $ 4.00. This thing is tiny– 3 oz. labeled on the bottom. When will the insanity stop? BTW– the once fabulous watermelon sherbert now test like saccherin.

Apple Gate Farm will always be one of my favorite stops when back in NJ. The location is in the middle of a residential area on a main thoroughfare. The original farm stand and homes are very charming. I love the local celebrity pics of those who have stopped by including those of Sopranos fame. I think they even filmed some scenes here. The ice cream is always fresh and delicious. A huge variety of choices and all sizes too! The staff is normally high school kids but still very good service. My ony complaint are he prices. $ 4 for a tiny scoop of ice cream? If it weren’t for the location and social aspect, I’d buy some Ben and Jerrys!

They need to update their closing time on Unilocal and Google. Just got there exactly at 10pm tonight and they just closed and would not serve us. Not open until 11pm as it says on Unilocal and Google. The ice cream is good but annoying to not have the times right.

This place used to be good but the quality of the ice cream has gone down quite a bit over the years. Because it is close to home we still visit sometimes. My first visit of the season, I am pretty sure that I was discriminated against for being older than the workers. I was told I was not allowed to order because it was«after closing». Which is completely understandable on a normal day. However as I walked away disappointed, a group of 4 teens walked up and all were allowed to place orders. If they had been turned down as well I would have understood, but it is completely unfair to not serve someone. If you are closed that means you are closed to everyone not just who you think is allowed to order.

We driven past this place a thousand times in all four seasons. In the early spring, they’re less busy, come summer time, it looks like a festival going on here. This week, a friend told us why this place is a must go, and we did not hesitate to give them a shot. We have become believers. Home made ice cream, cake and milkshakes and coffee and on and on and again home– made… come onnnnn… We love it! Our first time we tried the peanut and vanilla ice cream and both were on point. They are very generous with portion sizes and informative on the various flavoring they serve. The vanilla ice cream had whole almonds in it, and we’re talking lots of almonds, not halves neither. And the chocolate they serve here is thick and rich and waiting to soothe your dearest cravings. We’ve checked in twice already, and this will not be our last time. Let it be your first, you’ll love it!

We were at an open house nearby and wanted some froyo or ice cream to cap our day. Turned to Unilocal and found this amazing gem. One taste of the banana ice cream convinced me that my future home must be within 5 minutes of this adorable spot! If you’re craving delicious, creamy, fresh ice cream there is no need to search anymore. Interesting flavor combinations(peanuts in Rocky Road?) and classics. Good selection of prepackaged tubs and mini cones as well.

I really like the ice cream I got here. I had the hot chocolate ice cream. It had bits of marshmallow and chocolate in it. Cute little place for a hot day.

I used to love this place… It seemed like they had endless flavors… Now not so much… I usually just go to Rita’s, especially on such a gorgeous autumn day but I wanted something out of the ordinary, a different flavor other than vanilla or chocolate custard but I should of just went to Rita’s… The ice cream was such a disappointment it had ice chips … I don’t even know how the process of making ice cream is but it seems like, it’s no longer homemade… Seems like the ice cream gets done elsewhere and then deliver to Apple gate farm … Melts in the process and thrown in the freezer separating the milk from the water which is supposed to be ice but not really ice, since it has to be creamy not icy… The cone tasted stale… I don’t know… So disappointed… On a positive note their pumpkin apple cider donuts are to die for … So good but that’s it…

Even though the ice cream is good, it is extremely over priced. Spent over $ 5 on a small soft served in a cup with sprinkles, not to mention, they need to work on becoming more organized. I liked going to this place for the longest, until I recently placed an order for a cake for my mother’s birthday through a Groupon. When I arrived the following day to pick up the order for my mother’s small birthday surprise, the girl who took the order, did not do so correctly the day before, so the cake was never made. When I explained the urgency of the matter, they just said I had to wait until the following day for the cake, with no care in the air whatsoever from the girl who appeared to be in charge that afternoon. I was delayed almost two hours in doing everything else, thankfully Carvel is still around so they helped out and had a cake for me, which by the way was surprisingly VERY good. Just recommend verifying orders are ready before giving them benefit of the doubt they are. Investment on seating, organization, and a little courtesy can really go along way here.

We had a groupon so decided to stop by since we were in the area. The lines were so long so that seemed like a good sign! I loved the décor and theme they have going on as well. Since we had a groupon I kind of indulged and got a 3 scoop cup with cookie dough, coffee, and toasted almond. I loved all my flavors but the almond just slightly less, because they had pieces of almond in it which I liked but then it was a bit overpowering and became chalky in my mouth. Luckily that one was on the bottom so I was full by then and couldn’t finish it anyways. You can tell that the ice cream is fresh and in my book if you are going to treat yourself with sweets, have the good stuff that is made fresh!

First time here yesterday! Was passing by and the bright red building stopped us in our tracks and beckoned us in for some homemade ice cream! It did not disappoint! I had the junior cone with strawberry cheesecake yummy! My wife had the junior cone with mint choc chip, yummy too! Prices for Junior scoop $ 3.65 and the scoop was plentiful so I cannot imagine what a large scoop would look like. Will def be back when nearby. This place is great.

Who doesn’t love homemade ice cream?!? The ice cream here is so good and the flavors are delicious. The ordering process and lines could go a bit more smoother, but other than that I can’t complain. Parking can also be a little rough. I’ve noticed many of the customers sitting on the benches or grass throughout the parlor. It was nice and relaxing. I’ll be back.

Excellent homemade ice cream gelato and Italian ice. Have all the classic flavors with some very unusual specialties that are awesome. Very cool facility has been a dairy since 1848 in the same location. Definitely worth coming by. Large portions.

Applegate has become a summer tradition for me and my family. We stop here after a long drive from the shore just to cool off and enjoy the yumminess. We always get the same flavor: Graham Central Station. Of course. It really is the best flavor EVER. I’ve considered being it in pints but do not trust myself with having that amount of it in my home. Yes, it can get pricey but this is North Jersey folks. Aren’t you used to it by now? There is plenty of parking all around the building. My only pet peeve is how slow the lines move despite the large number of people working behind the counters.

A beautiful Saturday afternoon; my mom, the kids and I were out joy-riding in NJ… looking to discover new places, and that’s what exactly happend to here. We discovered one of Montclair’s Ice Cream gems. The ice cream flavors plentiful, but it was my first visit, so I decided to stick with the basics, Vanilla with Rainbow sprinkles… and it was Delish — Soft ice cream, perfect texture, not too sweet. My mom had the banana which was a bit sweet for her liking, so says my mom who ate it ALL regardless :-P When its gooood, its good. There were 3 people ahead of us when we arrived, but when we left, the rush came in. Cars were pulling up 2 – 3 at a time. The front parking lot filled up quick, but thankfully they had additional parking in the back. And no need to leave straight away, have a seat on benches that they have all around the ice cream farm. Take a fews pics with the iconic Cow, that sits on the lawn at the entrance. We will be back.

Very busy place. 1st time visitor. They’re having movie night in the parking lot for families. Very nice way of getting parents to bring out the kids for desert and a movie. The hard ice cream was very soft tonight. Not good. But was told the freezer could not handle the heat and softened up most the ice cream. They had to put my hard ice cream in a cup it was so soft. We not the best first impression. But it was not as tasty as I would have liked. I will return and hope the next visit it is hard ice cream not soft.

Pretty good ice cream and a nice atmosphere to come on a summer day or nice night. I know a lot of people who rave about this place, but I don’t think it’s the best ice cream I’ve ever had. The prices are pretty steep and the portions aren’t the biggest out there. It’s a nice place to try, but not somewhere I visit often.

It’s officially summer break for me so that means shorts, sandals, bad life choices and ice cream. Applegate Farm is right around the corner from my campus and I decided to treat myself after a long semester with some ice cream. My friend was also in town and suggested the place so I said«Why not?» I get there and it’s a cute little ice cream joint reminiscent of a farm near my hometown, complete with a silo and a cow statue(in retrospect, I wish I took a selfie with said cow). I meet up with my friend and I decide to order their Ice Cream Cake flavor, a seasonal special apparently, in a waffle cone. I think it was Cake Batter with some frosting tossed in there but I don’t care what it was because it was delicious! Creamy, refreshing, and a lot of good textures up in there. The reason why I DIDN’T go for seconds(besides keeping check on my beach body), was because of the price. $ 7.25. You read that right. Seven dollars. Twenty-five cents. Now I’m not a cheapskate. I like to treat myself to a meal every now and then. I mean, I’m on Unilocal.Duh. BUT, when you got me paying that much for an ice cream cone, I better get some special treatment with that. Maybe a bib. A novelty T-Shirt. I’m sorry, but should ice cream be ATMOST $ 5? Maybe it was because I got a waffle cone, but still. Apart from the prices, I do like the ice cream there. It’s very refreshing during the hotter months so I’ll give it that. But c’mon, the price is a tad much.
