Kenny’s Tipperary Inn

What a nice place! This is a very cozy inn with incredibly warm service. Jamie, the manager made us feel so welcome and made sure we had everything we need, from ‘in-​the-​area’ recommendations, to a taxi on our way out. Our check-​in was seamless. When we headed upstairs, we were suprised to see that the room was huge (and very well appointed). This was one of the quietest experiences I’ve had in years. AC and WiFi worked very well. I will definitely come back next time in Montauk!

I have stayed at many different hotel and motels in Montauk over the past 10 years. Kenny’s Tipperary Inn was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had — in Montauk and elsewhere. Upon check-​in, the guy at the front desk was extremely rude and demeaning — questioning why I asked for directions if I had been to Montauk before — implying that I was a rude Manhattanite and not someone who should be in Montauk.
After checking in, I was notified that even though I paid for 4 people to stay in the room, I was only being allocated 3 bath towels. The guy at the front desk then proceeded to yell at me that they had a towel maximum of 3 for each room. If you are going to charge per person for a 3^rd and 4^th guest in a room, you can’t not provide the guest with a towel — that’s horrible business and hospitality and something I have never ever experienced.
The other lowlight of the stay was when on our last day, the cleaning person barged into our room 20 minutes before check-​out and yelled that there was a 10am check-​out. I have stayed at many hotels and this was a first. We then politely let her know we would be out on time and to please close the door. Then again at 5 minutes to 10 she barged in again and refused to leave and proceeded to stand outside our room with the cleaning cart.
Finally, when I checked out, I returned the beach pass to the same guy at the front desk and he made a snide remark that he was glad I didn’t forget to return before hopping back on the jitney to the city. You know, if you don’t want out of towners in your hotel — maybe you should change your occupation.
To say Kenny’s is a disgrace to Montauk is an understatement. They charge over $ 500/​night for a room in a hotel where they do not believe in hospitality of customer service of any kind.
I highly recommend anyone considering Kenny’s instead look into the Ocean Vista, Sole East Beach, Sole East Resort, Born Free or one of the many other Montauk options which would be much more pleasant and enjoyable an experience.
Never again.

While Montauk has been a bit more discovered, it’s still gorgeous and mellow, especially off-​season. But I was surprised by how overpriced many places still were in September.
We had a very nice stay at Kenny’s Tipperary. Found it to be a good value for our impromptu vacation. It’s located very near the bay docks, and is an easy bike ride for fantastic sunset views.
The room and bed were comfortable and clean — and beautifully quiet. We slept like babies. (A relief from places where people party all night.) A nice pool for a quick dip before a meal.
The front desk was very helpful and friendly, both on check-​in and when I needed some help after I’d banged up my foot on my bike. Since the stores close earlier out there, so it wasn’t possible to get to the drug store — but Mr. Kenny was so friendly and helpful, opened up all sorts of kits and let me pick what I needed.

It’s pretty good. Nice location.

Front desk staff was friendly, but the place was stingy with the towels and bedding for the room and very overpriced.

Went there this week to meet some friends last minute (booked that morning) and this was the only hotel we could find with a room available. We decided to give it a shot and once we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised! Really nice guy working the desk (Jamie I believe) got us in our room immediately and the room itself was clean, spacious and had wifi too. Didn’t use the amenities much but the pool was clean and looked nice and there’s a BBQ pit if you’re into that. The best part though is the location. They are about 200 feet away from ALL THE BEST RESTAURANTS AND BARS! Gosmans, Swallow East and Salavars are all an easy walk and the beach and market area for ice cream and toys for the kids is right there too. Overall a solid value and totally acceptable place to set up for a nice week in Montauk.

Just spent a week here. Great location and the rooms were very nice. The service was good also. Nicely located near the dock area so there is plenty to do wothin walking distance.

Long story short: Lots of pros, a few cons but I’d definitely come back.
Pros: SUPER DUPER FRIENDLY staff. At check-​in, Jamie greeted us and I never felt so genuinely welcomed into a hotel. lol. He was so helpful too and pointed out some good places to eat that were in the area. This place is very close to some of the better restaurants in Montauk and a bit further from the busy Plaza on the other side of the island where the Plaza and the main Montauk beaches are. It’s a quieter, less crowded area which is perfect to me. There’s also a smaller beach that is about a 10 minute walk which isless crowded than the main Montauk beaches. And if you do wanna go to the Plaza area, t’s a 6 minute, super easy drive. The rooms were pretty clean and probably one of the nicer (if not the nicest) rooms in Montauk. Wonderful, comfy king bed and a peaceful balcony if you get it. The rooms are really as nice as they look on their website! BONUS: Dog friendly (with a standard fee) LOVE!
Cons: I found a dirty spot on my comforter which kind of grossed me out, but it was totally fine and not a big deal because they provided sheets which acted as a protective covering for me. Also, the pool wasn’t open until the weekend after we left. I would have liked it if they had mentioned this stipulation on their website, just so I would be aware. But to be fair, the weather was chilly anyway and not pool weather so it’s not like I would have been going swimming anyway.
All in all, when I go back to Montauk, I’ll book a room here again.

One of the hidden Gens in MTK. Excellent accommodations, clean rooms, friendly staff and 3 minute walk to the beach make this Irish hideaway a must stay when in Montauk, LI. The accompanying Bar/​Restaurant O Murphy’s beckons with Irish Beer, Jameson Whiskey and Shepherds Pie. My favorite was the fried Mushrooms with Horseradish sauce. Jackie will fulfill your every whim and foodie delights and Jamie at the front desk assures you that you don’t have to be Irish to kiss the Blarney Stone!

My boyfriend, another couple and I stayed here for 2 nights & 3 days. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had in Montauk! The workers were all so friendly, helpful and kind. The front desk guy even helped us out to find places to go and places to eat! He gave us a lot of directions to places also. I loved the 2 bedroom apartment type suite. It was so comfy and clean. Anything that we needed, they were more then ready to give us anything they could to make our stay awesome! We were there April of 2015 and I would absolutely LOVE to go back for a longer amount of time to go to more places and see different things. The hotel is so close to the water that we would walk there every day and night just to relax. They have plenty of places to eat around the hotel also which made everything that much easier! They have shops all over the place to go too which was also a lot of fun! We drove about maybe 10 minutes to the town and walked around there all day long, they had a bunch of awesome cool little places too. I would 100% recommend my friends and family members to stay here and my boyfriend and I will definitely be coming back here to stay too!!! Thank you to the staff who made our stay beyond amazing!

Whoever the manager is of Kenny’s Tipperary Inn, should not be working at this hotel or any where. SO RUDE and CONDESCENDING!
I made a reservation online yesterday and called immediately after to make changes and/​or cancel. He rudely shot me down and said we have a 21 day cancel policy. OK, that’s fair. I ask him to direct me where on the direct hotel website it states that, he couldn’t find it. I ask him to direct me where it says that in the check-​out process, he couldn’t find it. I ask him where it states that on my e-​mail receipt confirmation, he couldn’t find it. He keeps talking rudely and down to me this whole time saying, well that’s our policy! That’s our policy! Yes, I get it… but if you can direct me to where it is posted to advise your customers I am perfectly OK with it.
AND THEN proceeds to send it to me by e-​mail. UH, what? You JUST sent it to me.
I ask to speak to the manager and to no luck, he is the manager. Can I speak to Kenny? How is this the way you speak to any potential customers? Or handcuff me into going to your inn after such a verbal battle? I said I guess I have to dispute this charge with my credit card company because the cancel policy is clearly not stated anywhere on your website… This guy responds
1) Fine. Go ahead.
and then…
2) Our hotel website isn’t ours. It is handled by someone else so I don’t know anything about the cancel policy.
WHAT???

Poop! We started off NOT getting the room we booked on
! No king rooms available upon check in. …just take a double we are fully booked. Ok. No flat screen TV as promised, no couch… probably because we were in the wrong damn room! Ceiling fan did NOT work, sink sounded like a machine gun (you don’t really want the plumber here for 3 hours to fix that do you???) AC sounded like a B52 getting ready to take off! Oh, did I mention the only reason we chose this hotel was for the pool? Lmfao! Funny. …because it was closed the whole weekend! And I quote. .if I let you in the pool, your skin will burn off… Jaime. niiice. .waiting for a wedding watching TV in my BED because I don’t have a couch because I am in the WRONG room!
Did I mention that our shower was installed upside-​down? Hot was cold and cold was hot? Yeah! Great first night shower! Ice cold showers for everyone! We were told (with a smile) the guy who did the plumbing was probably drunk… well guess that also explains the psycho sink!
Last but not least. …please don’t be faint of heart. …you will be required to haul your own luggage up many steps and down long wooden decks to get to your rooms! Fyi… ladies don’t wear heels… the slats will ruin your heels as they did mine. #tippytoes

This place is really lovely and the dude at the front desk was very inviting, he even carried my 50 pound suitcase up the stairs to my room on his shoulders! The room is really nice, the bathroom is — interesting. and I say that because there’s a giant jacuzzi in there which doubles as the shower so you’re kinda standing in a Jacuzzi and it’s a little awkward to shower in. To get into the tub to shower you have to kinda long-​leg it into there so if you have any sort of hips or knee issues I’d suggest not showering… or going somewhere else?
Anyway, nice location, a/​c was slow to cool down the room but it happened eventually. Nice place and a good price!

Hotel is near marinas and quality restaurants. Room was excellent and the pool was peaceful and clean. The room was the most affordable we could find for the weekend, but my girlfriend and I were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the room for the price we paid. Definitely recommend

Here’s the thing: MTK is not the getaway from the tragically hip urbanites it once was. Used to be that they would flock to the Hamptons and MTK was left pristine from pricks. Now? Hmmmmm notsomuch. But those in the know avoid the ridiculous posers and appreciate the beautiful small town for what it is: unbelievably unspoiled beach, bay, biking, running, fresh from the boat seafood and a place to relax and unwind in this soothing paradise.
Hadn’t been to Kenny’s in 15 years, it is a small, rustic inn steps away from West Lake Marinas/​Docks and some of the finest food (Salivar’s, The Dock, Liar’s, Hula Hut, West Lake Fish House, Gosman’s, Swallow East) and drink in town. It is not fancy. Our one bedroom suite had a gigantic kitchen/​den dishwasher, granite countertops full sized fridge and a large flat screen (and another in King BR) There was also a seating area and a pull out couch if you had an extra guest. It was nice to be able to cook a quick pre run Breakkie or snack and have everything necessary to do so already there.
The BR was large enough, bed was dream inducing and while the bathroom was tiny, my BF joked the walk in closet was larger than most Studio Apts in the city. The patio in front of each room had a table and chairs, and these or the Zen Garden were the scene of sunset Champs and whispered sweet nothings.
The pool was not opening for a few more days, but we were steps from the ocean/Bay/Sound…who needed a pool? Jamie at the Front Desk was charming and helpful, always greeting with a smile. His tips for pubbin & grubbin were spot on.
Honestly, it is not the fanciest place to stay, but we didn’t go to «The End» to stay in our room. We went to soak up as much natural beauty and relaxation as possible and Kenny’s helped us accomplish that mission.
Manucci’s Restaurant on property served up one of the largest Chicken Parms I’ve ever seen (another review) and has a full bar and breakfast buffet.
Not only would I recommend staying here, I plan to again ASAP. If it is doable, we’ll see you during my next trip home in a few months. You can spend a helluva a lot more $$$ on lodging, but why?! Leave Star Island to the invaders, we’ll take West Lake.

I stayed there last summer (2012) and never got around to writing this review. But now that I have some time, I want to say how polite and professional the staff was. It is pet friendly so when my girlfriend and I bought our small dog Sammie, he was very happy. This place is very cozy, very clean and customer service was great. The staff is extremely accommodating. I will be heading back this summer.

The place is like a family beach house. The furnature doesnt quite match up with the other décor of the room. Sure it is not fancy but the bed was fantastic! The staff were friendly and pointed us in the right direction for some great food and relaxation. They were honest and fast to bring an iron on request. If staying here remember that you are going through a time warp to the 1960’s so bring your own hair dryer and open up the room to enjoy the sea air.
I would recommend this place to a friend that can do without the frills of a large hotel and likes to be off the beaten path.

I hesitate to even write this negative review because we had such an awesome time in Montauk, and I don’t want to sour a great trip by spending my time focusing on something bad, but I want to save other people from making the same mistake by booking here. We booked through
which was fine, albeit a little fishy that you paid 50% upfront and the rest upon CHECK-​IN. Usually hotels reserve that for check out. On Thursday, I received a «courtesy call» from the owner checking to see if we were still coming. I put courtesy in quotes because she basically discouraged me from coming. She told me that Montauk was «going to be absolutely packed» (it wasn’t) and that if I didn’t have dinner reservations booked, I should just bring food with me because the restaurants are all booked (every restaurant was wide open, even at popular times) and lastly, breathed a heavy sigh when I said we were driving and said «well bless you for driving because it’s going to be absolutely mad» As if everyone who stays at the Tipperary takes their private jet. I actually asked her if she was trying to make me not come. Usually courtesy calls, if made at all, are cheerful and set a positive tone for the trip, not a negative one.
We get there at 3, as told because «it was going to be jammed at the desk» (it wasn’t) only to find our room was still being cleaned. We said no problem, but returned later that night to find that 1. old soap was still in the shower, which means that the shower wasn’t touched 2. there was no shade on our back door, which meant anyone from the street or parking lot could see straight into our room. The room wasn’t large at all and there was no safe space to change or even leave the restroom. 3. The carpet was coming up at random places in the room. I have stayed at my share of roach motels and can even appreciate their charm, but when I am paying upwards of $ 370 a night, I don’t expect these faults. Every other review said the hotel was under-​going reservations, so maybe our room was last on list. I’ll return the favor, Tipperary Inn, you are last on my list.

Long story short:
We booked an apartment with a sofa bed and seating area; something comfortable for the four of us. We prepaid and booked the room on
. When we got to the hotel they gave us a single room with a king size bed, no seating area, and no sofa bed. Their arguments were as irrational as saying that
had a wrong description of the room and that they can’t do anything about it. They offered a coupe of extra mattresses –which they would charge at $ 50 per night. After discussing for a long time about how we could solve this issue they threatened us and didn’t let us talk to the hotel owner.
At the end they told us that the most they could do for us was to not charge for the extra mattresses, which was not even close to a fair settlement.
Aside from this issue, the hotel is well located, BUT the hotel rooms are not clean at all, there are no shades in the room, staff is rude, and there are plenty of other better options in Montauk.

I have to admit something embarrassing here. I have been fascinated by Montauk ever since seeing Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Yes, those words «Meet me in Montauk» really stuck with me and made me say, «Yes, let me go meet you in Montauk and see how it is.» So when I was given the job of watching my parents’ car for 2 weeks I decided to pack up the boyfriend and drive out to Montauk. Just to see what all the fuss is about.
Well, we found MANY places that explained what all the fuss was about. The Tipperary Inn was not one of them. It was fine enough for an impromptu overnight in Montauk but nothing I would feel the need to do again. They had someone filling in for the real manager and she didn’t know how to swipe a credit card. Then someone else came and couldn’t figure out how to swipe my card either. Finally they requested that I take the cash out for the stay. That did not fill me with joy but it was virtually the only room available in the whole town.
The room was fine. Pretty spacious, not that expensive, little balcony thing that looked onto the parking lot. But the door never felt like it really locked, there was a very long window with no curtain right above the bed and the TV had no channels except for a few fuzzy ones. Meh. I’d give it a 2.5 if I could but it was just OKAY. If you can stay somewhere else… do it. But if you’re in a bind this place is fine.
