Mdot Welcome Center

So, how DO you rate a welcome center? I’ve been to a few in my day in several different states. I stopped here because I still had another hour and half drive back home, and had to use the restroom. It was the first pit stop in Michigan, and I HATE stopping in Monroe. HATE IT. I only go there under dire circumstances, and this is just outside of the city.
I pulled in and the place isn’t terribly huge, but clean none the less. Ample bathrooms and parking, along with packets about multiple cities to stop and check out including a really nice map of the state of Michigan.
I don’t expect to much when I stop at these places, but again, I’ve been to a few. I did not notice a coffee machine, which would have been nice. On the bright side, it was well stocked with plenty of room to stretch out and get your bearings before hitting the road again. I would gladly stop here again on another road trip, but mostly to use the bathroom or stretch my legs.

Although the signage on the roads, tells you its closer than it actually is…

I stopped at this welcome center during my drive to Michigan. It is a very nice center that is staffed and has a plethora of information on Michigan and activities/​events in the surrounding area. The facility, especially the restroom, was neat and clean.
This rest stop doubles as a Michigan park. Outside you will find plenty of parking, park benches for resting, tables and grills for a cook out and a fenced in playground for the young ones. It gave me the feeling that this is a safe and cool place to hang out on a day with beautiful weather.
I’m glad that I got the opportunity to stop here and check it out. I would definitely stop again if my travels should lead me that way.

After-​hours visits always produce fond memories of a well-​kept facility. Visits during normal hours results in plenty of literature for the north-​bound visitor, as well as personal travel help from knowledgeable attendants.
This welcome center is a gem among travel centers and rest areas in the U.S.
