You need to try this place for yourself! I had the chef’s specialty: shrimp and grits. It was an explosion of flavors, mixed peppers, celery, tomatoes, sausage, and shrimp the size of Texas. The grits were a rich creamy treat that paired perfectly with the seasoning of the andouille sauce. The meal was served in a personal cast iron skillet for a wholesome presentation. I tried the cracklins which were savory but uninspired. The ambiance of the restaurant is what really makes this place. It’s a historic site right on the river and still has original brick walls and wood floors. If you ask nicely they can show you the upstairs area that includes the Edison room, complete with bulbs, and an outside patio that looks out to the river.

I travel a LOT for work. Probably eat at 200+ restaurants per year, and always try to find whatever the best local flavor is. Someone asked me tonight what the best meal I’ve ever had was. There was no question. Cotton. The olé smokey is a fun way to start the meal, and something I’ve been telling my friends about for years afterwards. The minion trio still makes my mouth water every time I think about it. Service was incredible, décor was homey and comfortable, prices were perfectly fair for the quality of food you’re getting. Absolutely everything I could ask for in a restaurant. Cannot recommend this place enough.

This place is a real treat. Great atmosphere in a historical building. Service is impeccable. Every item that I have ordered has been excellent. Especially the Schnitzel! Whenever I am in town I make it a point to eat at Cotton.

This is my third glorious visit to Cotton and it did not disappoint. We had the bacon wrapped duck wraps and raw oysters for apps and ribeye for dinner. Only disappointment was the entrée was cold but they fixed it quickly. All outstanding. Can’t wait to come back.

A total«must visit» when in Monroe, LA. I have to admit that I’m sort of a food snob and this one put me in my place. Rustic but with an urban vibe/décor. We were greeted/seated immediately. Our waiter was awesome(tall guy with a long beard… imagine duck dynasty meets hipster). Cory Bahr(local southern celebrity chef) is not only the owner of this awesome establishment but the chef too. He was there the night we visited and he made it a point to check on us frequently. Full bar along with a decent wine selection — I recommend the perfect margarita. Crispy boudin, muscovy duck wraps, smoked pork belly, and deviled farm eggs are a must for appetizers. How can you go wrong with deviled eggs? I ordered the soft shell for my entrée which was lightly battered(not greasy) and extremely fresh. My dining partners were also pleased with their entrees. However, the shrimp and grits received the most praise. To top it off, we ended our dinner with a reasonable tab!

There menu changes about every month and sometimes I like the changes and sometimes no so much. Service is slow so don’t be in a hurry for dinner but a great place to relax and unwind and to take your time to enjoy the meal

As a college student, coming home and having lunch with my mother and grandmother is something I look forward to. I mentioned that I had never been to Cotton before so they brought me today for lunch. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. Portion size was perfect. The salmon was fresh and the soup of the day, a potato soup, was brought out in good time for an appetizer. I would love to make this our regular lunch destination whenever I am in town. The atmosphere was created by the classic southern décor and music, which could have been played a bit lower. Still, it was a great experience and a wonderful meal.

It’s always a shame when decent food is destroyed by lack of service. We had to wait at least 20 minutes for a table. Usually not a big deal, but when they offer to let you sit down at an open table, that makes you wonder. It then took another 30 minutes for our food to come out and it was mediocre at best. Then another 20 minutes to get our bill and 15 minutes to pay. Generally a disappointing experience.

Good food, good atmosphere, very pricy. Only reason I have 4 star is because I ordered a well done steak and they serve me a medium rare with a lot of pink.

Probably the best restaurant in the region. Had lunch there the other day and really enjoyed the Redfish. I’m not really a foodie, so I can’t intricately describe flavors, but I can tell you it was delicious. Zach took care of me at the bar and provided great and friendly service. The place itself looks great! I look forward to coming in sometime for dinner. A top choice for grabbing drink or delicious food in the Monroe area.

Pimento Cheese burger with duck fries was beyond amazing. And you must have the Duck Wraps. Bottomless mimosa with fresh squeezed orange juice was a nice treat that words can not describe.

Such a warm interior with brick walls, reclaimed wood tables, and tasteful historic photos of cotton picking. The Louisiana blackberry & blueberry salad was truly the best I’ve ever had with a fried egg on top, fresh greens, tender chicken, goat cheese, smoked pecans & a cane syrup vinaigrette. The surprise pre-lunch snack was a small dish of cracklins . Very tasty!

This place is amazingly fantastic. I’ve been a couple of times and the service NEVER disappoints. Always friendly and very knowledgeable on the menu and specials. Duck wraps are great. You HAVE to order the Blue Crab. Cory and his team do an amazing job of service and food is always awesome. If you are in Monroe: You. Have. To go. Here.

Traveled to Dallas for a sporting event and stopped into Cotton on the way home. By this time, we really hadn’t had great food b/c we all know food at sporting events isn’t so great. I had also been deprived of good coffee! Walked into Cotton for brunch and was transported back in time. The building is a converted cotton exchange and was beautiful w high ceilings and Corinthian columns. Our waiter offered to brew me a fresh cup of coffee when i mentioned my lack of good coffee. The food was wonderful and i wanted to try so many more things on the inventive menu. We tried the pimento and cheese burger and shrimp and grits. Don’t hesitate to stop in!

Have eaten here several times in the past 6 months, each meal was fantastic, the service was excellent, and the drinks were creative and delicious. The atmosphere is also quite good, a comfortable rustic motif, which you can tell was carefully designed and executed. I’ve had their steak, pork chops, duck fries, duck wraps, asparagus, and their burger(which was attractively priced comparatively to the rest of the menu) and nothing disappointed. In fact, I count these meals to be among some of the best I’ve ever had. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who visits Monroe, for

Fresh ingredients, a delightfully creative menu. The service here is hit or miss depending on the waiter and how busy they are. Try the duck wraps. They are fantastic! The first time I came I had the ribeye that was seasoned perfectly but a little fatty for my liking. The second time it was just plain WONDERFUL! The food is really top notch and Cotton is a great place to eat in Monroe. One of the best!

Easily the best meal I’ve had in as long as I can remember. We picked the place based on these reviews as my sister and I live in north Louisiana but not in Monroe. We read that duck wraps were not to be missed and so we ordered those. Wow! Great stuff. The duck fat fries… also fantastic… crispiest, most flavorful fries ever! Then we had shrimp and grits for the meal. Brought home leftovers, but it wasn’t because it wasn’t delicious! Best I’ve had and I’m a recent transplant from a lot of years in south Louisiana! We had the Mississippi Mud Pie for dessert and it really was an upgrade to all if had previously. Very rich, but the salty meringue really balanced the dish and made it perfect.

Best shrimp & grits I’ve ever had in North Louisiana. Cotton brings a great flavor to downtown Monroe. You could taste the freshness in the shrimp and the andouille made a great compliment to the cheese infused grits. I also tried the duck wraps. They. Were. AMAZING. It was my first time trying duck and may I say that it was a very pleasant introduction. I disliked that I wasn’t given ice for my water and my coworker order the chicken & seafood gumbo which looked awfully thin, watery like to be «gumbo». The staff was quick in correcting the soupy gumbo, so that was a plus in an awkward situation for such a great restaurant. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and look forward to returning and telling friends about this hidden gem.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Great ambiance, impeccable service, and great food. — blue crab gnocchi(4.5÷5): truffle oil is strong w this one. Soft gnocchi, very rich; — roasted oyster(4⁄5): garlicky goodness; — raw oysters(4⁄5): clean tasting Louisiana oysters, had better in New Orleans but darn good here also; — shrimp and grits(4⁄5): very umami tasting, rich but good with bread; — Brussels(3.5÷5): please please try to cook this dish with brussel halves, I think it would be better than the flakes. This restaurant is what I call a serendipity.
