Specialties
Casual elegant dining in a historic Gold Rush setting. We offer a wide variety of unique menu items as well as comfort foods for your enjoyment.
We feature live music most weekends in our historic saloon, and the antique wood stove is wonderful in the winter months.
We are also dog-friendly for dining (in the saloon and on the deck only).
History
Established in 1851.
The Historic Hotel Leger was one of the first hotels built in the Mother Lode during the Gold Rush in 1851. The town of Mokelumne Hill was the original county seat of Calaveras County, and part of the hotel includes the original County Courthouse and Jail. The basement jail was recently renovated by The Travel Channel’s Hotel Impossible show into a beautiful wine cellar banquet room that can be reserved for special events.
The newly named Whitewater Grill & Saloon have been part of the hotel since the Gold Rush days. Serving both fine dining and comfort food in an elegant setting, we are open for dinner Thursdays through Mondays 5pm-9pm, and for lunch on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12Noon-4pm.
The Whitewater Saloon is a relaxing throwback to the Gold Rush days, where you can enjoy an ice cold draft or bottled beer, or a refreshing specialty cocktail. Enjoy the warmth of the antique wood stove during winter, and listen to live music most weekends.
