Description

Specialties

Founded in 1994, Dance for Joy focuses on classical ballet training emphasizing on the love and enjoyment of dance while learning the essentials of ballet.

Real classical ballet training is available to everyone! We do not favor the serious student; however, our students have been accepted into many prestigious summer programs including ABT, Walnut Hill School and Chautauqua. Many of our graduates have received college dance scholarships and have danced (or are dancing) with professional companies including ABT, while others have continued dancing while earning degrees in various professions.

Our dance programs begin with fun and creative classes for 3 to 6 year olds, then offer ballet and jazz beginning at 7 years and continue with pointe and modern for teens through adults. The love of dance is an idea that students can carry throughout their entire lives.

History

Established in 1994.

We are located in Mohegan Plaza on Route 6 in the center of Mohegan Lake. Dance for Joy is across the street from Ms. Dancewear and the Mohegan Diner. We are equidistant from the Taconic State Parkway and the Cortlandt Town Center.

There is plenty of parking on the side and in the back of the studio. You can easily park and walk your student to the front door.

Our facility is designed to accommodate our dancers’ needs. We have a dressing room for dancers to change in and prepare themselves for their class.

Our 2 spacious studios are air-conditioned and have mirrored walls, dance barres, and floors that are specialized dance flooring. The bathrooms are located centrally to give quick and easy access from the dance rooms for our little dancers, and the big ones too.

Meet the Business Owner

Roberta H.

Business Owner

Ms. Roberta holds a Masters of Education degree, specializing in human development, from Harvard University. She received her initial dance training from her mother, who danced with the Radio City Music Hall Ballet, and then continued training with the Radcliffe Dance Program, New England Ballet, Ballet Theater of Boston and master teachers in both Boston and New York. She performed for over 15 years with a touring company in New England and has been teaching for over 30 years.

Dance for Joy is a dream come true for Ms. Roberta, who calls herself an escapee from a real job. While she always danced and performed, she also earned a BS in Engineering Mathematics and was a Vice President of a large software company before leaving it all to open Dance for Joy.

She believes that ballet can be a wonderful part of everyone’s life and is dedicated to sharing her passion with all children.
