History

Established in 1986.

Vision Works was founded in downtown Modesto in 1986 by Dr. George Patton. In November 2014, Dr. Patton retired and transferred the care of all of his patients to Modesto native Erika Bray Ortega, O.D. Dr. Bray Ortega and Dr. Patton worked very closely to make the transition to her care as smooth as possible and enjoy a strong relationship, speaking with each other frequently. Many long time patients are very happy with Dr. Patton’s choice of Dr. Bray Ortega as his successor and are pleased with her thorough eye exams and genuine concern for her patients. She has been practicing in the area since 2008 and has had many patients follow her to her new practice. The staff at Vision Works remains unchanged from Dr. Patton and has a combined experience of over 100 years of employment here! Our patients can depend of high quality care from staff members that know them like family.

This place is awesome. I was a patient of Dr. Patton for many many many years. One time he saved the sight in one of my eyes after an accident at home. He did the primary diagnosis and treatment of my eye injury on a Sundayqday at his office then set me up with a specialist to ensure my full recovery. I was never even sent a bill for his services. I am now a patient of Dr. Ortega and I have received excellent service. She is very easy to talk to and very knowledgeable about her profession. Your eyesight is not something you want to take lighthearted. You can trust these people. Thank you Vision Works.

I followed Dr. Bray from her previous office to this new office when she took over this practice. I find Dr. Bray to be competent, attentive and personable. The front staff was nice, too. Change can be tough for all, but I think Dr. Bray and staff handle it well.

Addendum. I have learned a lesson from my recent experiences with Vision Works and Dr. Elliott.
The patient is always to be doubted, is usually wrong. Just as in business today, the customer is always to be doubted, distrusted, wrong.
Take away: Old school practitioners are gone. The newer health providers are quite different. Do not assume loyalty but watch out for and protect yourself. You are your best advocate and if you cannot find help then move on. There must be someone somewhere who still cares. I’m still looking through blurred vision, but still looking.

The selection is extensive, the eye doctor is very nice. I was quoted one price for glasses then when I got there to fill the prescription the price was double. When I expressed that I could get a better price at Costco I was told «so go there».

I was able to get a next day appointment which is one star. The second star is for the friendly staff. However, an hour wait is ridiculous. Loss another star for just leaving me in the front without an explanation or apologies for the long ass wait. If there wasn’t a 2 week wait everywhere else, I’d just walk outta there and do business elsewhere. Unfortunately, I couldn’t.
