Specialties
Remember the days when great-tasting food was made-to-order with quality ingredients and always served up with a frosty mug and a warm smile? Well, those days have never left at your favorite A&W Restaurant. We still make our burgers, hots dogs, french fries, onion rings and, of course, our famous A&W Root Beer the way you like it, the way you remember made in-house everyday. This local A&W still has car-hops on roller skates and cruise-ins every Friday night during the summer. We hope to see you soon!
History
Established in 1919.
The very first A&W was in Lodi, California, not far to the north of Modesto. The Modesto downtown A&W location is currently one of the few remaining original A&W drive-ins, complete with carhops on roller skates.
The now famous Modesto native, George Lucas, also loved the A&W Drive-In– it served as his inspiration for American Graffiti, set in Modesto. Throughout the restaurant you’ll see notes, pictures and memorabilia from A&W and Modesto’s past.
