Kansas City’s original certified Irish dance academy, The O’Riada-Manning Academy of Irish dance (OM) has offered a wide range of classes for both children and adults of all levels and backgrounds for over 20 years. OM’s teachers, Joseph Manning and Emily McCarty, were both born and raised in Kansas City and are delighted to continue the tradition of Irish dance in this area.

OM is known for producing well-​rounded competitors and performers of both traditional and modern Irish dance techniques. Having over 150 talented dancers ranging in age from 3 to 70, the OMM family has a lot to be proud of! They currently have classes in Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Northland and Lawrence.

History

Established in 1993.

Originally from County Antrim, Northern Ireland, Christine O’Riada trained, competed, performed, and taught in Ireland prior to coming to Kansas City and starting the O’Riada Academy of Irish dance.

In 2010 Christine retired and moved back to Belfast and turned the school over to Joseph Manning. Joseph then named the school the O’Riada Manning school in honor of his late teacher.

Joseph has danced, competed, and performed since beginning lessons with Christine O’Riada and the O’Riada Academy of Irish dance in the mid-​90s. His experience in all avenues of dance equip him to help each dancer succeed with whatever their focus might be.

Having qualified for, danced in, and placed at such elite competitions as the Midwest Regional Championships, North American Championships, All Ireland Championships and the World Championships, Joseph brings a broad and all-​encompassing knowledge of the competitive side of Irish dance to the O’Riada Manning Academy of Irish Dance. Joseph’s highest placement as a soloist at the World Championships was 5^th. Additionally, Joseph has experience performing throughout Kansas and Missouri with many world-​renowned Irish groups, including: The Cheiftans, Irish Tenors, The Wolftones, Black 47, Cherish the Ladies, Eileen Ivers, Gaelic Storm, and The Elders, just to name a few.
