Krbz the Buzz 965 Fm

I like the music format of The Buzz. If they would just replace Afentra and Laslo I would listen to the station quite a bit more.
I want to hear music. If I wanted to listen to misinformed worldviews I would tune to pundit talk radio shows. Everytime I switch over in the early afternoon and I am happily enjoying some music, it doesn’t take long when 3 oclock comes around for me to switch the station. Occasionally I will flip through channels in either the AM or afternoon and stop at one of the two shows. I can only last about five minutes. If there is a conspiracy theory based on no factual evidence at all, you can expect these two to be all over it, buying it, and selling it to their listeners. Although it is very brief, when I do listen to one of them they make me believe that the movie Idiocracy is a very real premonition of our future.
Lose the afternoon talk show, do a little traffic in with the music and find a decent morning show host (s). Seriously, just play music! Thank goodness for The Bridge and streaming!

Four years is a long time to hold a grudge.
I still stand by the thoughts/​emotions that went into my ⁶⁄₂₀₁₀ review but I can admit that since then I have in fact been to a number of events hosted by The Buzz and they’ve all ran much more smoothly. I don’t know if I just had a few bad experiences or if they have better people running their events today, but either way, they’re certainly improved and I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest their events to friends.
In terms of them as a radio station, they’re one of the 3 I listen to with any regularity. The other two? NPR (which can get old depending on the show) or The Bridge (which can get a bit too Indigo Girls for my taste). Generally I like the music played on KRBZ, and it’s the closest to what I’d listen to on Spotify or rdio or whatever other streaming service I might be employing. I do wish they’d quit with the talky-​talky during the morning and afternoon commute times. I listen for music, and if I want talk my dial goes back to NPR.
I know these guys aren’t the biggest fan of me (hint: I’m the one that called a dick on air and then cherry picked my negative reviews to make me look like an ass!) but I’m bigger fans of theirs than I was a few years back. I don’t know if their «we’re about to get shut down» thing is legit or not, but I sincerely hope that’s not the case. There’s not a lot good radio in KC, and KRBZ changing formats would leave a pretty sizable hole in the radio landscape.

I love me some Buzz! I can’t wait to drop my kids off in the morning so that I can crank it up and laugh my ass off at ABFMB. Sometimes their topics are for more mature audiences than my elementary school kids and THANK GOD for that. They actually have personality unlike the rest of the stations in this town. When I first moved here I thought my ears would bleed from boredom until I found them. They are spot on, with the best music in town.

Bottomline: If you are looking for Alternative music as identified by Billboard’s Top Alternative songs, this is your station. A current look at the Top 10 in that category displays the types of songs played on this station. I easily saw 5 – 6 that I have not only heard recently but know the band has performed a concert promoted by KRBZ: The Buzz in Kansas City.
Genre: «Alternative» music — 90’s through Current. — Think AWOL Nation, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fun., Gotye, Nirvana, The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons, Bush, Jane’s Addiction, Green Day.
Hosts: There are several hosts throughout the day —
* Mornings w/​Afentra & Danny Boi (Mark as producer) 6am — 10am
* Mid-​day w/​Jeriney 10am — 3pm
* Afternoons w/​Lazlo & Slimfast (Meredith as producer) 3pm — 7pm
* Evenings w/​Meredith 7pm — 10pm
Other shows: There are several time periods throughout the week which aren’t under one of the above host’s shows. These include Loveline w/​Dr. Drew (a nationally syndicated show) each weeknight at 10pm — 12am, Lazlo’s Harddrive, Resurrection Sunday, HomeGrown Buzz, etc.
Free Stuff: The station routinely runs contest, call-​in opportunities, Facebook & Twitter contests, texting options, «freeloaders» — email, etc. to allow most listeners ample opportunity to receive promotional items, tickets to shows, etc. You are only allowed to win once every 30 days.
Free Concerts: The station also puts on several free concerts throughout the year. These normally show up during the summer as a lot of bands tour during that time. These free concerts range from early mornings (Kegs & Eggs — they provide free breakfast & a beer to attendees; Kegs & Eggs are normally in very small venues & bars and thus it reaches capacity quickly; the musicians also may not be on time as they may be coming from other towns on their tour), to evenings (some small venues, some a little bigger such as the Midland by AMC)
Special event concerts: The station also puts on special event concerts like «Prom», or Halloween themed, etc.
Other Concerts: The station normally promotes several concerts throughout the year usually having one very large multi-​band concert such as Buzz Beachball in the summer, and multiple 3 – 4 band concerts throughout the remainder of the year. Some of the 3 – 4 band concerts have been branded with event names such as Halloweenie Roast, Buzz under the Stars, The Night The Buzz Stole Christmas, and others. These concerts normally feature at least one top artist from the current alternative music genre. If you looked at the Billboard Top 10 Alternative music songs, you would see the types of bands that KRBZ: The Buzz is able to book & bring to Kansas City.
Interviews: During the Hosted Shows the Hosts will have on celebrities, musicians, politicians, sports professionals, as well as local citizens.
Other: The Hosts will provide some commentary on current events and news stories. They will also provide content that may not be in the main-​stream.
Commentary: I don’t care for 100% of the songs played on the station, but realize the world doesn’t share my taste. If you want a truely customized experience then free radio over the airwaves is probably not your best bet. Listening to commercials and occassionally listening to a song/​band that you might not like as much as others is simply the «cost» of listening for free. I personally enjoy two of the Hosted Shows the most — mornings with Afentra & Danny Boi (Afentra’s Big Fat Morning Buzz) & The Church of Lazlo with Lazlo & Slimfast. The others aren’t bad, they just don’t fall into the time periods where I am listening to radio the most. If you listen & pay attention you should easily be able to score some free tickets.

I love this station! I’m 55 years old and I listen every day, and laugh so much in the afternoon at Lazlo, and his crew, Keep it up!

I just moved to South Florida, and there is not one alternative radio station. Nothing in West Palm, Ft. Lauderdale nor Miami. While working I stream The Buzz on my laptop to listen to Afentra’s show in the morning and Lazlo in the afternoon. Sundays I listen to Resurrection Sunday, which is always my favorite program along with the Hard Drive. So happy they stream live! I’ve been introduced to bands that Pandora and Slacker never served up given my preferences.

I love this station and the shows they put on. 95% or more of my radio listening is done here.
I do think it was a bit unfair for Afentra to call a Unilocaler a Dick this morning, especially in a setting where this person (as far as I know) is unable to respond. I’m sure that person was writing what they felt were fair reviews based on their experience at these locations/​events. If others have opinions, they can certainly share them in the same manner.
I realize that Unilocal is not for everyone. Those of us that are part of the community do our best to write fair and balanced (and unpaid) reviews. We do it because we want to share our experiences. When something’s awesome we want to tell the world and when it blows we want to warn them off.
All of that being said, I do enjoy your show Afentra and Danny Boi. I live for Resurrection Sundays. And someone really needs to get Danny Boi added to the show-​image on the website. :)

Thank God for the internet so I can truly experience alternative radio from FM 94.9 San Diego. I am not sure how this station manages to stay around. If I wanted to listen to blowhards spout uneducated and biased opinions I would listen to anyone currently in Washington DC or the political radio talk shows.
