Woodstone Mouldings

Daryl, Phil and team did such an excellent job on the crown molding in my home! My husband was away on a deployment, so it was great to work with them and get this done as a surprise to him before he returned home. Daryl responded right away and stopped by to gather all details and provide me a quote. He also gave great recommendations and suggestions. They arrived to my home and it was fantastic how quick it went! They did crown throughout the entire house and also framed some of my windows. They recommended 2 great painters (who were fantastic also) and within 48 hours, had completely transformed my home. They were such a pleasure to work with!!!

Daryl, Phil, and company did an awesome job putting up crown molding throughout our 1950’s home. We also added wainscoting down our hall way which will be beautiful as soon as it is painted. Our window casings were all replaced and now our windows are all portrait perfect.
I highly recommend their work and promptness. We received our estimate from Daryl, approved it, and they started work the next week. Very quick and efficient. We were impressed.

I’m thrilled with the work Phil and his team did from Woodstone. Our house looks beautiful. We had them install crown moulding, baseboards, window casing, and door casing throughout the entire house. Phil provided great suggestions and ideas for working through tricky areas. The team was very clean, quiet, and respectful. They bring a trailer which is their mobile workshop. It keeps the house and noise down. I work out of my house and was still able to get some work done. Our job took 4 days and every evening they cleaned up the mess and arrived on time every day. I was 100% comfortable leaving them in my home alone. Daryl is Phil’s dad and he is a pleasure to work with for the quoting process. Very friendly. I’m so happy with the work they did and so glad we didn’t go with another company. The one thing they don’t do is paint. We still need to paint the wood but they suggested some painters. This was fine with us as the door jams need to be painted anyway. If I can post some photo’s I will. I like to show off my new beautiful woodwork. :)

Woodstone Mouldings did an awesome job with beautiful crown Mouldings and custom window sills/​casing. Daryl is very knowledgable and Phil is an expert at what he does. This company is reliable, honest and does beautiful work. Very hard to come by these days.

January 2013: Daryl came out to do a estimate for crown molding. Very friendly guy. He showed me samples of their work, and they seem to have done some pretty fancy stuff. Daryl measured my entire house and organized the written quite (emailed to me the next day) room by room. That way, I could cross off rooms until I got it down to something I could afford. He suggested I go with a 6″ molding, and explained how they’d go around the vents and how they glue each corner in addition to the finishing nails. ***make sure to mention you found them on Unilocal and ask them about any promotions***
After I hired them, he was able to come out the next day and installed 4 bedrooms and one living room in less than half a day. They did a great job (even a handyman I hired pointed out what a great job they did with some challenging edges). Comparative pricing.
Please Note: they do not do the painting. I assumed they would caulk the gaps between the ceiling and the molding (no walls are perfectly even with the ceiling). I was wrong. Apparently, they say it is the painter’s job to caulk and putty the nail holes, and paint. I guess I should have clarified this with them in the beginning.
Another issue is that they didn’t respond to a question I asked in two of my emails regarding the removal of wallpaper boarding in two of my sons’ rooms. As a result, they installed crown over it! In their defense, they mentioned this to my son and husband in the morning, neither of whom had any clue what they were talking about (I’m the one who handles this stuff but I was at work). When I complained, Daryl came back over that night to collect payment and explain to me how to remove the bottom half of the borders; he told me his guys cut the border below the crown to make it easier for us to remove) and he left me with a sponge to do it, which was nice of him, but I would have preferred knowing I had to do it before the install. If it was as fast and easy to do as he said, maybe they should have done it or at least answered my questions before the install.
One more issue: I asked him in the beginning if I should paint the molding before they put it up and they insisted it was way better to paint after installation. It turns out that that wasn’t the best advice. Now, it will be a lot harder and much more expensive to paint by hand than had I sprayed on paint to the molding prior to it all going up on the wall and just touched it up afterward. :(
Overall, good craftsmanship and quality product, but make sure you know what you need to do before it goes up. I think you should paint the MDF molding with a sprayer before installation. Much easier, faster, and cheaper to do that and touch it all up than to tape walls and use a paint brush.
Yes, I’d recommend them. Be clear about your expectations. The molding looks nice and will look even better after it’s painted.

We have had our entire house completed with Crown Molding and Baseboards by Woodstone Molding. We were very happy with their work, they showed up on time (a novel concept for contractors these days), were very clean and courteous. I even checked them out on BBB and they received an A+ rating. We were so happy with their work we had them do a mantle over our fireplace. Would recommend them Daryl was very knowledgeable about the products and Phil and his crew did a great job installing them. They are a great family business to deal with and we would recommend them.

We are sooo happy with the service and the quality of the work that the Woodstone Mouldings team provided for us. As far as price, they are about the middle of the road, so if you want the cheapest. then you may get what you pay for. We have been wanting to get crown in our home for a while, but we were never got the amount of service that Daryl provided us just at the initial consultation. We were very confused just in choosing what style, what size, we were even researching beams. Daryl met with us multiple times, provided us with samples, photos, suggestions and did research on costs associated with fire sprinkler relocation (for «wood» beams). He was very patient and detailed. His estimate was also very detailed and not just a scribble on a piece of paper. We knew exactly what it would cost if we eliminated a room, added a bathroom, etc. No question in how his bid was calculated.
Regarding the install, Phil and his team were very courteous, professional and efficient! The worked extremely fast and did excellent work even on more complicated rounded/​rubber corners. My dad, who has worked with wood for years, watched the whole job and was really impressed with how detailed they were. They use extra steps to bind the seams, I don’t think we will be seeing those seams reappear years down the road, which I have seen in other mouldings & base mouldings. All their work is done in their mobile workshop trailer in the front of our home, so there is no dust, wood chips, etc in the house. They were very clean. Also, they knew that they had to plug their electrical in different circuits in house in order to not blow a fuse (this has happened to us with tile work in the past!). Phil is a licensed contractor, so he knows what he is doing. If you want quality workmanship, they are the company to call. We couldn’t be any happier. We love the work! Daryl’s suggestions were spot on! He was creative in thinking of ways to save some money so we would not compromise on the outcome. Our home now has the finished look we have been wanting. The whole job took less than 3 full days! We had the equivalent to 7 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 6 common area spaces, 6 hallway areas and 1 large foyer that required scaffolding for the ~20ft high ceiling. FYI, they don’t do painting, but that is pretty common in this business, so make sure you get your paint quote before you start the job, we had to shop around for the right price on that as well, but both companies worked well together in our home at the same time. We had the painters lag 1 day after Woodstone Mouldings and there was plenty for them to work on while Woodstone would progress in other areas of the house. Also, Daryl made sure we were happy with the FINAL work product before he collect on final payment. It always bothers me when companies want the final payment before you have been able to have a walk through on the completed work product. Very professional of them!
