Good food but service is ridiculously slow. I waited about 15 minutes and left without even getting to the counter to place my order. I learned my lesson this time because the same thing happened the last time I tried going here. If you only have half an hour for lunch and feel like sandwiches, head across the street to Jimmy Johns.

I’ve been on this sandwich kick lately and as soon as I found out abut this place, I knew I had to go. Running late so I called to confirm they do close at 6 and the guy on the phone said yes. I asked if we could order now since we are 5 minutes out and he was nice enough to take our order. We order a turkey with avocado, everything on it except mayo and ofcourse the famous Rachel sandwich. Got there, the guy was pretty much closed but he did finish our sandwiches with a side of macaroni and two chips and drinks for $ 23. Not bad! We left and basically ate our sandwiches on our way home so no pics. :( The Turkey sandwich was okay. The bread was good, it held the sandwich very well. Everything was fresh but I deff have had better turkey sandwich elsewhere. The Rachel, ok I was told that this was the money back guaranty sandwich. One bite and if you don’t like it, they will refund your money back. Well, I must say it deff lived up to it!!! OMG!!! This sandwich is soooooo bomb!!! The pastrami along with the Russian dressing, coleslaw and cheese, wow! The flavors married so well, I could eat two of these!!! The bread soaked up all the moisture but it was not in any way soggy at all! Two thumbs up for sure! The guys was so nice and probably closed a few minutes late bec of us but we did not hear any complaint. I would deff go back to this place for sure!

I needed a place to eat near by and searched around and found this great NY deli. I was served by a younger girl that was super friendly. I read about the Rachel sandwich that was supposed to be just a down right good sandwich. Well they did not disappoint. Great sandwich for a fair price. The place is nothing much in the inside but they have quality meats(non of this super processed crap) to make a quality sandwich. I recommend.

This is a great place to stop for lunch to grab a quick bite. There is almost always a line but it moves quickly and you can be in and out in 10 – 15 mins max if you’re in a hurry. They also have indoor and outdoor seating. The«Rachel» on one of their home made rolls is the sandwich you should order your first time in, there’s a reason it’s the most popular. If the staff seems short tempered or grumpy its part of their New York style so don’t take it to heart. The owner will often act like you’re inconveniencing him then walk over and sit at your table to ensure you’re enjoying your meal. Great people, good food, fast service.

Ok, ok, I know everyone is in love with The Rachel, and they should be. It’s a great sandwich. Boar’s Head meat. Great bread. What’s not to love? I don’t care how good everyone says the sandwiches are. It’s irrelevant after one bite of their cannoli. I have had cannoli in NY, Philly, DC, and various places in Italy. I love me a good cannoli. This cannoli might be one of the best I’ve ever had. I’d have to do a side by side comparison to be sure, but it might be THE best. Go here. Buy a sandwich. Throw it out. Buy 12 cannoli and eat those instead.

Ordered 2 «Rachel’s» to go around 10:45 am. THEYWEREPERFECT! First time here and it won’t be my last. Friendly staff just really really slow… took about 25 min. With only 2 people in the store and a chip delivery with about 6 employees. Don’t know if there was something going on that made it so slow but it’s like the one guy behind the counter does everything and the others follow around in a daze. Weird. All the same the sandwiches were worth it. NOTETOSELF: just don’t go when you have less than an hour and not on my lunch break or near noon can’t imagine how slow it would be then. Food this good must be worth it just plan ahead and keep time management in mind when coming here.

After reading all the reviews for the«Rachel» I had to stop by today and order it. Overall, it was very delicious. The bread was fresh as described in previous reviews. Coleslaw on sandwiches is something I love, so I was eager to try out the Rachel! The pinkish secret sauce is great! I thought they would be more generous on the coleslaw since the only ingredients that appeared to be on the sandwich was meat, secret sauce, and coleslaw. They offer a pickle on the side. I called in my order as I was on my lunch break at work– they said 5 minutes and it would be ready on the phone. I got there 10 – 15 minutes later and it wasn’t ready. Good thing it was 10:30am and there was only one person ahead of me ordering. Would I return– YES

Best sandwiches around. I’ve been coming for 3 years now. I live all the way in Disneyland, and this place is definitely worth the drive. The Rachel is on a whole other level compared to anything out there. As well as the ham, egg, and cheese on a Kaiser roll. Both melt in your mouth. Definitely the best sandwiches in Orange County.

There isn’t anything particularly insightful or brand spanking new I can offer up about this place, but the charm of NYDC is that it likely hasn’t changed a thing about it for yeeeears. The sign on the outside, the furniture, the layout, the service, the menu board… it’s all very clean and neat, but more nostalgic than anything else. I attempted to order the Reuben and was kindly coerced to order the Rachel. I crack up so hard when I read others’ reviews spiting the employees for their non-disclosure about the Rachel’s ingredients. Omg. Seriously? If you’re allergic to something or don’t like something, then freaking order something else where they CAN tell you what’s in it. That’s part of the fun of the Rachel. When *I* asked, the guy was like, «I’m recommending it to you because it’s like a Reuben. It’s our signature sandwich, we don’t tell you what’s in it, but like I said, it’s like a Reuben, so if you don’t like it, we guarantee your money back.» Well, I’ll be damned — that’s a fun deal! I’m all in. Of course they didn’t give their money back. OFCOURSE I loved it. Part of the awesome individualized service here, however, comes with a grain of salt — you may have to wait longer than you’re traditionally used to waiting, especially with the kindness and patience they apply to their regulars. This is why people come back here: it’s like Cheers up in this place! I love small businesses, I love local flavor, and I ADORE well made sandwiches. An all-up winner in my book, NYDC!!!

Guy Behind the Counter: Can I help you? Me: Yes, can you tell me whats in a Rachel? Guy Behind the Counter: No. Me: Seriously? Guy Behind the Counter: it’s a secret. Me: All I want to know is what kind of meat is in it, I don’t want to know what the secret sauce is? Guy Behind the Counter: Can’t tell you. Seriously? It’s as if I was asking for the plans to the stealth bomber. I guess they don’t care if you have a food allergy, or a dislike for certain meats. They run the place with the typical«Get the f**k outta here if you don’t like it» attitude common in New York but this isn’t New York. My wife still got sandwiches for her and our friends but I went to Albertaco to get a carne asada burrito. You definitely cannot have it your way there, they won’t tell you what the ingredients are so you have to take your chances with food allergies too. My advice is to take your business elsewhere. There are plenty of other places to go who will be glad to take care of you, tell you whats in the food you are paying for and going to be eating and know who the customer is. NY Deli Case obviously doesn’t give a crap about you, your food sensitivities or allergies. Still thinking of going to NY Deli Case? Fuhgeddaboudit!!!

Have been here numerous times. The first time I had the best breakfast sandwich to date and since have had ‘The Rachel’ for lunch. I’ve had a hard time ordering anything else because the thickly sliced deli meat heated with the Swiss cheese on a perfectly textured baguette. Great informal lunch spot.

This is a mom & pops deli restaurant. That being said, please have proper expectations when visiting this family establishment. Also, this place has limited staffing. Combined with a heavy fluctuation of foot traffic throughout the day, it creates a perfect storm for sub-par customer service. However, the sandwiches are from heaven. Sometimes I feel bad when I eat there because an angel loses her wings every time you eat one. IT’S THATGOOD. I recommend phoning in the order after you’ve accustomed yourself to their menu. Until then, be courteous to the staff or NOSOUPFORYOU. If you got that last reference omg we gettin old.

This place is completely unorganized with the way they take orders. It was my first time and I was in line with everyone else. I almost make it to the front and they help three people behind me before they take my order. The guys behind the counter would call them by their name and ask if they wanted the same order and start making their sandwich. I’m sorry, but this is complete bullsh*t. Just because I’m not a regular means I have to wait? Finally get my order taken and the Hispanic lady asked what I wanted and didn’t even bother to ask if I wanted anything else on my sandwich. Whatever, no up-sale? Your loss. I got the Italian. So boring. There is a ton of other delis in Orange County that blow this place out of the water. Their bread is «fresh made» but tastes like a plain white roll from the grocery store. Another this is that the employees don’t wear gloves which is completely gross. The guy ringing everyone up and touching everyone’s money didn’t wash his hands once before touching or making sandwiches. So completely disgusting. Get it together, don’t be cheap, and buy some gloves. They microwave the meat for the hot sandwiches so that’s why I chose to get a cold sandwich. Nothing more appealing than 2 microwaves sitting in front of you while you’re waiting for your«fresh» and«hot» sandwich. I won’t be back. All their«regulars» can have their unsanitary ways and bland sandwiches.
