Specialties

At USSD Mission Viejo Karate we train in Shaolin Kempo as well as incorporate jiu jitsu/grappling as an integral part of our martial arts training. We are a family oriented school that believes in developing the Black Belt attitude in our students in and out of the dojo. The Black Belt attitude is one that emphasizes effort, respect, character, pride in your work, and empathy for others. Our adult students come to us with a variety of goals such as traditional martial arts training, weight loss, self defense, to gain self confidence and more. We are able to develop a training program to fit your needs.

History

Established in 1991.

Our martial arts school has been a part of the Mission Viejo community for 20 years and counting. The art of Shaolin Kempo however is much longer than that. Dating back over 2000 years, this martial art is still practiced today by the Shaolin monks of China. We take the tradition and deeply rooted history of Shaolin Kempo and apply it to the modern lives of our students while still maintaining the timeless Five Principles of Effort, Etiquette, Sincerity, Self Control, and Character.

Meet the Manager

Melanie P.

Manager

Sensei Melanie has always been a passionate practitioner of the Martial Arts. Starting at a very young age, Sensei Melanie managed to earn her Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do at West Coast Martial Arts. Later, she joined the United Studios Family, and became part of the Irvine studio. After a few years, and through hard work and dedication, she also accomplished her 1st Degree Black Belt in the art of Shaolin Kempo, which is the main style she teaches at United Studios of Self Defense. She also benefits from having worked as a school teacher at the Capistrano, Anaheim and Saddleback disctricts. Her ability to teach is natural, and can be felt immediately as you walk into the studio. She is not only certified as a teacher but also as a Behavioralist, and has worked with several kids with ADD, ADHD, Autism, and others, with great success over the years. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, going to the movies, and going to Disneyland.
