History

Established in 2003.

Our story began in Mission Viejo in the beginning of 2003. We changed names along the way and added a second location in Newport Beach. We quickly evolved into a Medical Wellness Center offering a wide array of services. Our philosophy is still to transition our patients through flexibility, function and strength. That means something different for each of our patients as the goals of each are always specific to them and their injuries. We are good at solving physical problems and we look forward to helping each and every person that walks through our doors.

Awesome staff and facility! I just had knee surgery one month ago with a rehab time estimated to be between three and six months. Upon my last visit with my Orthopedic Surgeon I was told that my recovery time is about one month ahead of schedule. I have Gateway to thank for my fast recovery. I highly recommend this facility to anyone wishing to improve their health.

They are the best. I’ve been seeing Dr. Van Dusen for awhile and he always takes the time to find out what’s going on, fixes it and then gives me the tools on how to maintain it at home with stretches, foam rolling, etc. I highly recommend them.

Great doctors and staff at Gateway. Awesome chiropractic care & physical therapy, too. They treated my shoulder injury as well as back & wrist pain that flared up during my shoulder treatments. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for rehab. Simply the best!

Dr. Rafa is amazing and this is definitely a five star business. After injuring my shoulder working out and experiencing an impingement they have been lifesavers. Twice in a year they have treated my shoulder for 6 – 8 weeks at a time and were able to provide instant relief even after my first visit. Honestly the most effective chiropractic and physical therapy I’ve ever been too. They always give tips and exercises to do at home so you can continue to work on healing. For crossfitters, this is the only place that understands Crossfit and the type of issues that crossfitters experience. I’ll never go anywhere else. Great customer service as well.

Can’t say enough good stuff about this office. Dr. Rafa and Dr. VanDusen are smart and thorough about their treatment, caring and effective. In about 8 appointments they managed to undo the damage I’ve done in my current sport, but also undo 13 years of stupidity in lifting and playing collegiate D1 sports without stretching or any body maintenance. I’m no longer in constant pain because of their care, while past appointments elsewhere only stopped the pain for a day, never addressing the causes.
Their massage therapist Claudia is very knowledgeable and will identify problems and work them out before you can tell her it’s tight or sore, it’s like she can read your mind (really, she knew my neck was tight from seeing me walk 2 steps without turning my head or anything!)

I saw Dr. Rafa after my pregnancy for an issue with my hip. I couldn’t even put weight on it without it falling out of the socket. He was very conservative and just did strengthening exercises at first (it was so bad he didn’t want to mess with it) and then the next visit he popped it in place and it was a miracle! He also gave me lots of additional exercises for home to help me recover quicker and strengthen my core post-​C-​section. Within just three sessions I went from immobile to CrossFitting again! I heard about him through another pregnant CrossFitter and she had the same experience of not being able to walk down stairs to CrossFitting. I can’t recommend him enough!

Hands down the best facility I have ever been to. I had a shoulder injury and they helped me get back into action before I knew it,. I had been in pain and unable to do most of my workouts for a couple of months. I made an appointment they listened to me and knew right away what was wrong. They put me on a plan and after a few sessions each week I was good as new in a couple of weeks. I was amazed at how fast I recovered from this very painful and aggravating injury. I’ve been to other facilities in the past but this one hands down is by far the best around.

This place is a waste of TIME and GAS. If I could give them Negative 5 Stars I would! I had an appointment at 11 and when I got there BEFORE my appointment they had me fill out 11 pages of useless paper work and when it was 1130 I asked the lady at the front desk how long until I could see the doctor. She rolled her eyes and said a couple minutes. I replied she had said that 15 minutes ago and then she said he was with two other patients and it would be awhile… So why is my appointment set at 11? This elementary stuff… scheduling appointments. It’s fine that the doctor was running late but you need someone at the front desk to explain that to a customer because just like the doctor, we dont have all day either. The lady did not care when I told her i was leaving and the whole time the doctor in the back was gossiping with a client that came in after me… This place is horrible

As a mother of three and a half-​marathoner, I’ve got plenty of aches and pains. I began with Gateway several years ago to treat a chronic low back pain issue, which with Dr. Rafa and Dr. Van Dusen’s treatment has been resolved. Since then, they (and the amazing PT there, Rona) have treated my neck post-​car accident, treated shoulder and wrist injuries, and of course they’ve treated the occaisional leg and hip issues that come with being an avid runner.
They understand the demands of the working parent-​athlete and they are always knowledgeable and helpful at getting my body back into peak shape. It’s great to know that when I’ve got aches and pains that I have a place to go where they’ll listen and give me what I need (inlcuding exercises to do at home to keep up the healing)!
I highly recommend them for any of your chiropractic or physical therapy needs.

I’ve tried so many different Chiropractors over the years, and none were able to treat me in a way that I could be pain free for weeks at a time. Dr. Rafa and Dr. Van Dusen are the best Chiropractors in Orange County. As a person with a very demanding lifestyle as a mother to three children and a wannabe athlete (CrossFit, triathlons, duathlons) I have various aches and pains that require regular maintenance. I used to be sidelined quite often with injuries that never seemed to get better, but Dr.‘s Rafa and Van Dusen have been able to care for me in a way that allows me to maintain my active lifestyle and achieve maximum performance. I cannot thank them enough for all that they do for me, for without them I’m certain I would be sidelined with injuries yet again. I’d also like to note that their office staff are exceptionally nice, and always willing to work around my work and «Mom» schedule so that I can get in for treatment. So very thankful that I’ve chosen GRWC!

My wife and I were in a rear end collision. My wife had to have cervical fusion surgery and I had lumbar disc problems.
We did our entire rehab at GRWC. Over a period of one solid year my wife and I were going to theorpy two times a week.
We can’t thank you enough to Dr. Rafa, Dr. Vandusen and the team at GRWC.
We would not be where we are today without you.

I’ve been to quite a few chiropractors and, to put it simply, Dr. Rafa is the best I’ve ever experienced. As someone who is very active in participating in a number of demanding sports (Crossfit, mountain biking, MMA), I incur quite a few injuries that vary in their degrees of severity.
As an active athlete himself, Dr. Rafa understands what we «Office Warriors» put our bodies through which helps him to focus upon keeping people like me doing the things I love to do sans pain.
I simply cannot recommend Dr. Rafa, his partners and his staff enough; do yourself a favor and go see them!

I cannot say enough good things about Gateway Rehab. I moved to the area a couple years ago and when I messed up my back I didn’t have a chiropractor. Another patient recommended Gateway Rehab to me so I set up an appointment.
Let me give a bit of background info first. I’ve always had a bad back, I could throw it out very easily doing practically nothing. I’m also a very active person, so you can imagine how much of a pain that was. When I went in for my first visit my back was so bad I could barely roll out of bed in the morning. I’m not exaggerating, it caused me so much physical pain to literally roll myself out of bed that I dreaded waking up. I met with Dr. Van Dusen and after just my first session I felt immensely better. I could move around! I’m now symptom free and able to run and play sports again.
I also gained a ton of weight when my back was messed up due to my inactivity. But since going into Gateway Rehab I’ve lost over 20 pounds in just a couple months. That’s the kind of miracle they work!
