Auto Doc’s Inspections

I have purchased 3 used vehicles prior and I never thought about using a service like this, but will call Auto Doc’s every time I consider purchasing a car. Although I was buying from a reputable dealer I still wanted piece of mind that I was buying a vehicle free of major problems and Auto Doc’s did this for me. Dennis was easy to get a hold of and provided me with an extensive inspection of the Certified Pre-​Owned vehicle I wanted to buy. The process was easy and the cost was minimal compared to what I was able to negotiate off the price of the vehicle because of the inspection. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is purchasing a used car, you will not regret it!

I researched pre-​purchase mobile inspections and based on the reviews selected Auto Docs. Contacted Dennis and was impressed enough to have him check out a car for my daughter that we were interested in @ LA Auto Exchange. He was very timely, reasonable in price and pretty much relied on his inspection due to the fact that I was purchasing from a used car dealer who’s rep was somewhat dubious. As a result we knew what we were getting and it enabled us to trust the car we were purchasing not based on a salesman but an independent dealer. All the major components were checked (mechanical, interior/​exterior, wheels, tires) and were impressed with his ability to actually find that the left side had been repainted and detailed to how much body paint was applied. In addition the amount of detail and the photos were quite impressive– more than if I would of taken my car to a repair facility. It exceeded my expectations except for one minor miss and that was not caught on the inspection but with nearly 49 items checked it’s still excellent. In addition, the inspection came with photos of everything– exterior all sides, interior (even the trunk) underneath the trunk (jack/​tools)
floormats, Front windshield VIN # plate to match the body tag with VIN, engine compartment, pictures of the fluids (Engine/​Transmission/​coolant/​brake/​, air cabin filter, battery posts,
Volts, computer scan for fault codes, sonar paint gauge readings (⁹⁄₁₁ pictures were upside down) odometer readings pre-​road/​post road test and even the undercarriage– none the less thorough.
The thing we found out was that the one tire that was different form the rest was over 10 years old and couldn’t be repaired due to the age and it’s failure which happened w/​in two weeks of purchasing the car. All and all I would not hesitate to use them again though. Being that that tire had a DOT code this could of been reviewed when he noticed that it was different and could of prior to consummating the purchase insisted on the dealer replacing it since it could not be relied on.

Writing this review a little late but Dennis at Auto Doc reviewed a Dodge Durango that I was purchasing for my wife about a year ago his detailed report and professionalism helped me lower the price and saved me $ 3000 yes not a typo owner lowered the price from $ 8000 to $ 5000 because of his vehicle inspection report not only that but he confirmed my believe that I was purchasing a good running vehicle so far truck is still running like a champ

I had Dennis McDonald look over a BMW prior to purchase at a dealership. He identified a number of flaws with the vehicle which I used to my advantage in further negotiation with the dealer and it ended up more than paying for his fees which are very reasonable considering the level of detail, care, and experience/​credential that he brings to this. Note that the dealer inspection itself was a 100-​pt inspection which was marked excellent in all categories. He was prompt (same day inspection) as the dealer had another interested buyer with an informal report given by phone within an hour of the inspection (he spent about 30 min detailing what he found) and a formal 29 page report with numerous photos at the end of the day. The process gave me the peace of mind as he had the necessary training and certification (ASE master tech, body shop, chassis, wheel alignment, etc) and leverage for negotiations. I would not purchase a used car without his expertise; and will go to him again for a future purchase. His price is very reasonable for what he brings to the table and likely will save you another 10% off the negotiated price, it’s not a promise but that was what I got. I would definitely use him and highly recommend him without any reservations whatsoever.

I just had Dennis at Auto Docs Inspection do an inspection on a used car I was interested n buying and it was fast, detailed and an excellent report. The report found the car was repaired by a salvage company and was sold to a private party. This cars mileage was changed and the repairs were not in the advertisement.
I can tell you the information allowed me to stay clear of buying a bad car and a potential expensive investment. Thanks Dennis, you were awesome.

Fantastic, responsive and quality service. Called Dennis to schedule an inspection and he had me go online and fill out a web form. Completed the straightforward order form and instantly received a confirmation for the next day. Dennis did the inspection as scheduled and sent me a very detailed 30+ page report, complete with pictures and a extensive checklist of problems and potential problems he found within 12-​hours of the inspection.
Very pleased with this service and worth the premium that competitors charge. Highly recommend Auto Doc!

I am totally satisfied with their service! Dennis did a very thorough job in inspecting an old 1961 Triumph car for me. I was very close to buying it, site unseen, until I got the report back. I scheduled an inspection with Dennis and the sketchy car owner stopped answering calls. I called to cancel the inspection and Dennis refunded my money without any problem.
I found a different car and scheduled another inspection. I needed Dennis to be my eyes and ears since I was purchasing it sight unseen. Dennis did an excellent job inspecting the vehicle. Even the seller commented about the thoroughness. Dennis called immediately following the inspection and walked me through every issue in plain English. He also let me know how much the repairs might cost if I were to fix them. The report was 27 pages long. 27! It was incredibly helpful. This information helped me negotiate a better deal and the inspection paid for itself. I couldn’t be more pleased.

Dennis is the man — very thorough, fast to schedule and send the report, and seems to be very knowledgeable. He’s a couple bucks more than similar services but well worth it.

A potential buyer for my boyfriend’s car used this place to have a PPI done. The guy came and inspected it for 2 hours and just left without a word. We went to check the car and found that the center console was left extremely dirty in the photos shown. Also the guy used up all the gas in the car probably taking the M5 out for a joyride, leaving my boyfriend with barely any gas to make it to the station. The headlight washer was also popping out and we found a bunch of bolts inside the car that were supposed to be on the bumper and skid plate. These bolts are NOT supposed to be taken off unless something serious happens to the car. Car sellers beware of this company if they come to inspect your car!

Absolute must for any vehicle purchase! I called Auto Doc inspection on the referral of a dealer and am so glad I did. Fast, efficient, and thorough service ended up finding that the car had been through an entire repaint! Dennis called me immediately after and gave me a all the areas of concern over the phone. The report was emailed to me that night documenting everything. I didn’t end up with that vehicle but will definitely have them inspect any that I plan to buy in the future. The level of professionalism is off the charts and I plan to spread the word any way I can.

I found Auto Docs Inspections while researching online about buying a car out of the area. I read recommendations to have any out-​of-​area used car inspected by a third party and though it first seemed like extra work and money, I realized for the amount I was about to invest, it was worth it. I had been in process of finalizing a sale from a dealership down in LA (I’m up in the bay area.) I almost went with another company, but then saw mention of Auto Docs on a post on line.
I got ahold of them Saturday evening just before they closed, paid online, and they showed up the next morning at the dealership by 10:30am. The service was so quick, Dennis called me after he was done per my request and gave me a quick break-​down of what he found. The car had been in a minor (non car-​fax reported) head on collision and repainted in areas. I most likely would not have known this and it did impact my negotiations. It was also great to learn of all the things that are in excellent working condition on the car to put myself at ease. When asked his opinion on it being a good investment or not, he was honest (and I am buying the car!.) I received the full report later that evening with pics, as promised.
This is a reliable, responsive company, and a gentleman who knows what he’s doing. I believe he’s honest in his assessments, using whatever technology devices he has, and his opinion is provided upon request. I can’t see why he wouldn’t be honest as he is a third party not making any money for helping the sale of the car. Worth the $ 185 investment. It was also really great to have it done within 24 hours of paying, and on a weekend at that!

Called Auto Doc a few hours before going into dealership to find out how the process works. Arrived at dealership, test drove vehicle, and called Dennis (the inspector) to come out and take a look at the car. HE WAS THERE IN 20 MINUTES!!! awesome. I did luck out as he was close by.
The car was a great deal, but had some flags on the autocheck and carfax. Dennis checked the car out (2 hour process). He takes this seriously! You will get your moneys worth. He gives you the low down when he’s done and sends you a detailed report later the same day.
I was able to make an informed decision and get the dealership to address some of the issues. This guy is the real deal. If you’re buying a used car, CALL HIM.

I don’t write very many reviews. I felt compelled to write 2 after working with Auto Doc; 1) to thank them for their great service and 2) to write about the shit dealership that tried to pass off a deathtrap as a «mint» car. You can find the review for the other place in my profile.
After calling AutoDoc, I was able to set up an inspection with less than 24 hours notice. I received a phone call a few hours after the inspection to warn me away from the vehicle, which had a completely rusted through frame and rotted out tires (which were being passed off as brand new). Dennis, my inspector, sent me a detailed report with photos and explanations of each issue. Every fucking dent and ding was documented. Every… fucking… one. His report offered simple explanations that anyone would be able to understand.
I was going to use them again for another vehicle, but the person sold the vehicle before I was scheduled to look at it. I called AutoDoc 3 hours before the appointment; they refunded my money the same day, no questions asked.
I thought all the glowing reviews were likely bullshit. They weren’t. Check them out. Or don’t. I don’t really care. All I know is that I’ll be using them in the future.

With the availability to be able to purchase a vehicle online or a long distance away (my case, 240 miles), it became a priority to have a helping hand in inspecting the vehicle before making a large purchase. Not being able to get down there due to traveling the distance and the fact that I was dealing with a deadline on making a quick decision, I needed a helping hand.
And, that is where I turned to Unilocal and specifically, Dennis at Auto Doc’s Inspections.
Not only is Dennis very fast in getting back to phone calls and thorough in his explanations to any questions or concerns that one may have in the entire process, he without a doubt, is highly worth the cost of the peace of mind when making a transaction of this magnitude. Never mind, he is very good at what he does!
His response back by phone after the inspection was detailed and then the very detailed report that was emailed later that evening had me convinced that I made an excellent choice in using Dennis and his expertise.
Took the train down the next morning and drove my «new» car back home. If the situation ever presented itself again, I wouldn’t blink at using Dennis again.

Nowadays, it’s difficult to trust car ads on the internet when you’re in the market for a used vehicle from a private seller. After extensive research and finding a car that seemed too perfect to be true, we contacted Auto Doc’s to inspect the vehicle before driving up and making any further decisions. Since the vehicle was located in Dana Point, the Auto Doc made their way out to inspect it on the Saturday morning that we had initiated with the private seller to meet with us. After receiving a personal call from Dennis, the «Auto Doc», we felt at ease as he gave us a very detailed and genuine report of the vehicle. He basically gave us the «Go» signal letting us know that the car was exactly as it was described and in excellent condition!
Although we never met Dennis personally, we were very confident with his reports as he followed up with us accordingly. Quick to respond and reliable! If you want a piece of mind, Dennis is the person to contact for all your auto inspection needs!

Dennis saved me thousands of dollars when I bought my new car.
I was looking for a 10 year old car for about 2 weeks. After AutoChecking 20 cars I found one that I thought was pretty good. I test drove it and then called Dennis. He was out the next day spent 2 hours inspecting and then he provided a 25 page report.

While Dennis is slightly more expensive than the others… he is WELL worth the money and I would highly recommend his service. Dennis is a real pro! He actually called
me to warn me about the problems of the car that might not show up in the photos he took. He also told me of the owner’s attempt to cover the smell of cigarette smoke with air freshener.
He arranged with the owner directly to change the inspection time from evening to afternoon cos he needed daylight to do the inspection, and he kept me posted every step of the way! Very detailed report! Will definitely use him again — yes it’s a little more expensive but u won’t be throwing money away on a junk car.

Excellent and prompt communication. Dennis returned my call right away, coordinated a time to look at the car with the dealer, and let me know when I would have my report done.
I got the report back the same day; the whole process from my call to the time the report was in my inbox was like 15 hours. Fantastic.
The detail on the report itself is excellent. The inspection covered all mechanical and cosmetic issues and includes about ¾ of a page of notes. I also got about 30 pictures, several of which were annotated. He included good close ups of all damage, shots of the engine, and all of the cosmetic and damage issues.
Because I’m looking at buying a car 350 miles away this was perfect for me. Also a plus, after the inspection when I got the dealer on the phone they were already in the process of fixing one of the problems Dennis highlighted (broken AC compressor). Thanks so much!!!
