Specialties
A quintessential place for casual everyday comfort, with coffee bar, bakery, breakfast, lunch, dinner, frozen custard, beer, wine & weekend brunch. Like Tangletown Gardens’ farming philosophy, we make our food as it was made long ago– when everyone ate organic, free range, locally grown food that wasn’t fussy or high-end. It was just good food from scratch, every day. We bring guests back to this old standard of cooking using the season’s best from our farm. Traditional grass fed burgers, hand cut fries, sandwiches, links, soups & salads, with housemade accompaniments including pickles, dips & preserves. Guests enjoy affordable everyday foods with a culinary twist made with care. The kitchen’s talent shines with creative dinner entrees & specials, plus weekend brunches & weekday breakfast highlight the best of the season. The eatery is a step forward & backwards at the same time– back to the way food used to be valued & forward to making this old philosophy of cooking accessable to all
History
Established in 2011.
The brainchild of Tangletown Gardens’ owners, Scott Endres and Dean Engelmann, the Wise Acre was a natural progression in their business ventures. The two seized the opportunity to give a storefront to the food side of what they do early in 2011 by acquiring the 1950’s Standard Oil Station, now home of the Wise Acre. The restaurant has become a perfect outlet for the duo’s Highland Scottish beef, Large Black and Berkshire pork, and chickens, ducks, and turkeys that call Tangletown Gardens’ Farm home. The farm’s 130 acres in rural Plato, MN also produces sustainably grown produce for the Wise Acre and about 350 CSA members, plus most of the plants sold at Wise Acre’s neighbor across the street, Tangletown Gardens. Dean and Scott hope that the Wise Acre will be a model of sustainability, with their operations striving for a zero carbon footprint and providing food that is truly the shortest distance between the earth, the hand, and the mouth.
