We loved our drinks and calamari here, and are totally excited to come back and sample their creative, healthy but tasty looking dinner menu the next time we are in Minneapolis. Great long bar and fireplace. Traditional pub atmosphere plus updated cuisine = dreamy.

If I could give a 0 review I would. Waitress over charged and told our large group last minute that they ‘don’t spilt the bill’. It was a huge ordeal, however, If she would have told us before ordering we could have made arrangements. Definitely not going back there, plenty of other bars in the area. Not worth the hassle.

Great bartenders and a fun hang out. Reminds me of a «cheers» bar. My friend and I like to stop here for late drinks and snacks as we live in the area. We’ve never been let down and it’s always a good time! It’s nothing fancy if that’s what you’re looking for– but it has good service, good food, and a good time!

Friday night dinner club. Their Vietnamese Po boy was to die for, plenty of flavor and heat. Walleye sandwich was really good, two of us had the slow roasted roast beef sandwiches. Very moist and tasty.

A typical old bar in a typical old town. Exactly what you would expect from the outside and I don’t mean that in a bad way. Standard bar food adorns a food menu and all you old buddies are behind the bar. Didn’t see a jukebox but the tunes were solid all night so no worries. Plenty of seating too

Always stop in here at least once a week. You can find some nice yuppie reprieve here! Drinks are always kickin’ and worth it. If you ever had an instance where you thought service was lacking… you probably deserved it. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu and you always receive your food hot and speedy. If you’re thinking of stopping here just do it– it’s worth it.

there’s nothing incredible about Whitey’s, it’s some good bar food and a decent price. never too packed, so a great alternative to bulldog if you’re not a fan of crowds.

I love Whitey’s — I really do. I love the food, it’s super tasty, they give you generous servings, & it’s never boring. The beer selection isn’t huge, but anywhere you got Fulton & Indeed, you’re fine. The music kicks ass, acoustics are excellent — you can always depend on them to have the right baseball or futbol match on. BUT. Nine times out of ten the service sucks. I’ve had a staff of three ignore me or not see me for 5 – 10 minutes on several occasions, but what’s worse is when they do show up, they can just be shitty.

Came here for happy hour with some old coworkers on a Monday and was fairly surprised to see four or five tables full. I ordered a few cocktails, which seem to run a little weak but considering that it was rail liquor(and a Monday) I wasn’t complaining. As a table we ordered Pork Nachos and the Artichoke Dip. I nearly elbowed my friends out of the way to get as much of that Artichoke Dip as possible — it was delicious! AND they gave us plenty of bread(a huge pet peeve of mine is not having enough bread to dip — it’s a cardinal sin in my opinion). We did split the two appetizers between 5 people so portions were a little small but it worked out to be only around $ 9 a person, which was a steal in my opinion. The waitress was good, no frills. She checked on us regularly and happily split the tab for us when asked. I’d love to see this place on a Friday or Saturday.

Portobello sandwich was delicious, charbroiled taste is hard to come by as a vegetarian. There were many veggie options, I don’t recommend the veggie quesadilla however it was all beans. Staff was friendly and insightful. Defiantly coming back!

Food/Drink: We came here to grab a beer(or three) before deciding on food. This place rocks for that. It’s truly a great bar to have some drinks at whether it’s inside or outside. The beer list is decent, but nothing to write home about. The mixed drinks/cocktails are done pretty well and no one complained. Either way, good all around. We didn’t eat here, but there are some things on the menu that would drag me back if I had to. Ambiance: A bar made to be a bar. What a novel concept. Good setup inside and the patio outside has never been too busy to not get some seats which is a plus. The whole intersection gives you enough people watching options that you could absolutely lose a few hours there. Service: Great. Drinks empty, order up. Even tolerated one of our«more friendly» buddies which we just rolled our eyes at. Either way, we appreciated it and the bill came out quick enough. Overall: Good. If you’re in the NE, you’d be hard pressed not to come here at least for one drink in you overall night. Sure there’s plenty of other options, but Whitey’s is good and it’s an institution at this point. If you’re planning on something fancier then grabbing some booze and have some decent food options, head somewhere else.

I had been here several times for a couple of drinks before trying the food. The staff is always friendly and quick. The beer selection is adequate. The atmosphere is that of an unpretentious but clean neighborhood bar with a few of its own unique features. I wish I’d known sooner that I was passing up the best place in the neighborhood for pub food. I don’t say this to slight Mac’s or Bulldog. What I mean is that the kitchen at Whitey’s is that good. The slow cooked beef sandwich is addictive, especially with a side of their cole slaw. The Cuban is solid. The chicken kebabs are a big surprise out of a neighborhood bar. I’ve had breakfast there once and it was fine but nothing special. Lunch and dinner entrees are, though. Next time you’re in the area, rather than stopping in after for a drink eating at one of the area’s other great choices, try making it the main event.

One of my go-to bars in Minneapolis. One of the best whiskey lists around. The number of single-malt scotches available here is something I really enjoy. They have it all Glenfiddich, Oban, The Balvenie, Laphroaig, Talisker… etc. Its a bar that feels like a bar. No gimmicks. Not divey, not pretentious. Its quiet enough to have a conversation but always has some good music playing. They have 2 TVs for sporting events. There are always people here, but getting a seat at the bar or at one of the many tables is never a problem. The huge reclaimed wood carving mounted above the bar is something you wont see anywhere else. The brunch is really good and so is the Ruben. From there its solid bar food that wont disappoint. All the juices in the drinks are fresh squeezed… no really. If you order a screwdriver you get vodka and an orange squeezed into a glass.

«CORNER» BARFORSURE !!! It’s on a corner… My first time here, and I’ll give it a solid 4 stars! But because of the dim light, I can’t tell you how clean it was or wasn’t. But then again, I look fabulous in dim light ! Talk about laid back on a Sunday evening, totally comfortable and not super packed. We even found a close parking spot. I was there with daughter, and we split a $ 7 salad that could have fed a family of 4, and one of the best walleye sandwiches I’ve ever had. No batter on the fish, just pure unadulterated, FISH ! On a tasty hoagie roll. Yum. And again, frickin tater tots. I think I might have to go to a support group meeting to lay off the little tater gems. We almost ordered the fruit instead, but, our better sense took over :-) So this HUGE wooden half naked lady, larger than life, is mounted above the bar with a NOSMOKING hanging. Looks like it is straight out of a Stillwater bar, the old Ruby Begonias. Hilarious. The whole place is hilarious. Except the food… it is damn good. Next time, the TURKEYBURGER !!! Our server was also laid back, but still was on top of everything. We actually relaxed here. Probably because there was nobody to impress or to be impressed. Perfect. Too bad I missed the restroom signs, again, hilarious. I’ll be back. P A C K E D F U L L O F O L D T I M E C H A R M !!!

I like Whitey’s quite a lot. It’s a good middle ground of the bars in NE. It’s usually not packed, including my last stop on a Fri night between 9−11pm. It’s a little nicer than some of the other bars but still very casual. You can actually get a pretty good bite to eat. I like the atmosphere. Lots of wood. Dark but not pitch black. TVs so you can watch the game but this is no sports bar and they’re easy to ignore if you wish. Service has been good. Good stuff.

Stopped in here before our dinner at Gardens of Salonica for a few beers. First thing I hear is John Prine, then Johnny Cash. Perfect beer drinking music! Sat by the fireplace had a few taps and one bloody which was excellent. Cool atmosphere and good service. Will definitely come back to try their food very soon.

It’s a bar. After dining across the street at MASU this was a close option for ONEMORE drink with the girls and to meet up some friends! Only $ 5 for my Vanilla Vodka Diet. I like that. Maybe I’m used to Vegas’ steeeeep drink prices. Whatever. My drink was good and it was just a regular ol’ chill bar atmosphere. I also really enjoyed the bathroom door décor for the men’s and women’s bathrooms. Yes.

Whitey’s is another one of our office staples for lunch. According to my lunch ordering regulars, they have the best BLT and best cobb salad in town. I have yet to partake in Whitey’s BLT, but the cobb salad is a close second to the Blue Door Pub’s cobb. The bacon on Whitey’s cobb salad is thick and crispy, which is a hard mark to hit. I can only imagine how awesome the BLT must be. The staff at Whitey’s is always very patient and accommodating. I’ve got picky eaters on my hands, and they always listen attentively to the changes I need made(no onions, extra dressing, etc…), and the kitchen always gets it right. Pricing is fair — you get a lot of food for the $ 10 you pay for an entrée. If you order fruit with your sandwich, be prepared for a treat. We always get whole slices of pineapple or melon, often with berries or other fresh fruit. It’s not your typical sad cup of canteloupe and grapes from last Sunday’s brunch leftovers. Dining in can be hit or miss — I’ve had great service at Whitey’s, and I’ve had poor service at Whitey’s. The food is consistently good, and I’ll definitely keep ordering for lunch.

The usual suspects and I were on a little night out recently, and the suggestion was made to visit Whitey’s for dinner.. .. What? !. .. for dinner? !… I must admit, we all looked at each other unsure if this was a brilliant idea, or an act of revolt against our years of ritual Whitey’s weekend breakfasts. After careful consideration, we found ourselves at the table we’re agreeably all too familiar with. At first we were like creatures out of our natural weekend habitat, and even one of our regular servers had to «double take» and mention how surprised she was to see us in for dinner(too funny). In all seriousness, I wish we had taken a dinner visit to Whitey’s sooner. I was very impressed with the extent of the dinner menu(huge) and the fact that it was not at all what I had envisioned. Much like their breakfast offerings, dinner at Whitey’s was better than expected, but still doesn’t pretend to be «five star». I saw pages of everything from appetizers to full on entrées, salads, sandwiches, truly something for everyone — and portion size certainly did not disappoint. Our entrees were executed flawlessly and loaded with golden crispy fries. I have to mention great chicken wings whenever I have them, and Whitey’s were awesome. I also ordered the carnitas pork slider appetizer, and was surprised to see four huge sliders on the plate. Prices were well within reason, and the boys and I have never really had an issue with service. For me, Whitey’s just continues to exist as that corner bar and sanctuary — always there with the embrace of great food and drink regardless of the time of day.
