Depending on what you are looking for or let’s say if they have what you are looking for it will be a deal. The prices are right on. I wish they had a better wig selection like the beauty supply on East Lake Street which has cheap ones and they are nice ones and I wouldn’t have to go so far. Earrings are fun and affordable and so are some other things like nylons, makeup. Plus they are stable, meaning they are here to stay, which is a good thing.

Disclaimer: 99.3% of my purchases at this store are earrings or accessories, not the actual beauty supplies, so be warned. Variety Beauty is probably my holy grail shop of cheap accessories. How cheap? How about — 97 cents cheap! Not everything in the store is that cheap, but pretty darn close. They have racks upon racks of earrings, belts, sunglasses, hair accessories like clip on flowers and other types of clips/hair holders, as well as the typical makeup and hair supplies, including wigs. They also have a half-aisle of basic cleaning supplies, paper products, and just general household supplies. But oh, the earrings. The EARRINGS! They are constantly rotating a large stock of pretty awesome earrings — think in terms of style. Bamboo, hoops in all sizes and colors, doorknockers, random bizarro shapes, knockoff Baby Phat and Chanel logos, feathers, neon, you name it. Are they high quality? No way. Are they made in China and do they possibly contain lead? Likely(according to many earring cards that say«lead safe» instead of «lead free»). Are they super cheap and really fun? Absolutely! I have literally bought dozens(ok, probably almost a hundred) pairs of earrings here. They get new stuff in all the time, so it changes from week to week. I stop in every couple weeks to check out what’s new. The clerks are friendly but don’t really offer help unless you ask, which is fine by me.

Most of the usual beauty-supply items can be found in the aisles of this store(which used to be a sweet dollar store where I found an entire box of ladybug-shaped candles once). But face it – you’re not here for the false eyelashes, the waxy lip gloss, or the 5-pound bucket of hair mayonnaise. You’re here for the hair. Girls behind the counter vary from helpful to comatose. In general, they’re easier to engage if you have an idea of what you’re looking for — so weave newbies and MCAD dropouts, check out Sunny’s on Lyndale for a more user-friendly experience. As far as hair quality goes, you won’t find any Black Diamond or Bohyme here. I’ve scored some OK mid-grade hair, but the selection tends to be a bit limited. But if you’re looking for $ 10 yaki wefts, consider this paradise, baby.(And there ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.) A word of caution — don’t wreck your car in the bathtub-sized potholes in the parking lot.
