U-Haul of Minneapolis

I knew I was going tone moving at the end of the month, so I made a point to reserve a 15 ’ truck two weeks in advance. The gentleman working the desk that day was very helpful. He was able to recommend the correct size truck, helped us pick out boxes, and even carried the boxes out to my car for me. I was very impressed, and had full confidence in the competence of the staff.
Two weeks later I arrive right on time to pick up the truck I had reserved. A young woman wearing leggings and a Minnesota sweatshirt lumbers up, collapses into a chair, and gives me a look that lets me know I am interrupting whatever she was doing. I have to speak first because she is just staring at me, so I let her know that I had a truck reserved at this time and gave my last name. She hits a few keys, looks up, and tells me «They don’t have the truck I reserved.»
Okay, well I have a group coming to help me move in a half hour, what are my options? She says to me, «well do you want a 15′ truck?» I am just thinking «Of course I do, that’s why I reserved one!» Instead, I reply «It isn’t necessary, I don’t want to drive across town to get one.» So she rolls her eyes and offers me a 17′ truck instead. Which is fine, more expensive, but solves my problem.
Next she asks me how many miles I expect to use. I do some of the math, reply less than 50. Apparently this was not an acceptable answer. She snidely makes her best guess at the actual mileage and gives me a scoff that I interpreted as «idiot, doesn’t even know how far he is driving.» I was kind of offended at this point.
All I had left to do at this point is pay. It should have been easy, but what ever point of sales system they use gave Ms. Grumpers one last opportunity to make me feel bad about myself. She told me to swipe my card then press X for debit. So I swipe my card, the machine prompts me for my pin, so I enter my pin. She then proceeds to jump on the situation and yells «Ugh, No! I said hit X, God they never listen, they just swipe away and start pushing button.» I was taken back, I actually apologized for following the prompt.
The whole experience was just the epitome of poor customer service. I walked out feeling offended and angry. Just because an employee is not elated by their current occupation, it does not give them the right to treat the customers with disrespect. She was the face that represented U-​Haul, and now I will always associate them with poor customer service.

U-​Haul is a love hate relationship — they give you what you need — a large moving truck — but it always so expensive and they try to nickle and dime you everywhere — but they do have large vehical when you need them

It looks like experience can vary greatly based on a few different factors. I had a good experience, picked up the truck in less then 10 minutes, dropped off in less than 5. I think busy times of day can impact your wait and overall satisfaction, try to set things up early to avoid unexpected challenges.
I ordered online a couple weeks early, the truck and price were exactly what I expected. It’s in a neighborhood and there isn’t a lot of parking, I would suggest getting dropped off rather than leaving your vehicle. The entry/​exit is pretty easy to navigate and everyone was friendly enough for me. The trucks are used and abused but they get the job done. For the price Uhaul is pretty competitive, I would use them again.

About to travel 1400 miles, once we drive the truck to our apartment to pack up our items, dashboard says, Oil Change Required. Now that we are off to a great start we go back to this location and they say that they can’t swap the truck because it isn’t considered an emergency. Great, we are told that the mechanic did not reset the mileage which I should not have believed. Finally pack up the truck, go to pick up the trailer to tow our car. Nylon straps have to be replaced because of how frayed they were, lights on the trailer were not working. Two hours later we finally hit the road completely throwing off our first day travel schedule.
The best part was that after driving 1300 miles one of the rear tires blow out. Sullivan Tire comes out to change the tires and reveals to us that the air pressure was not even which contributed heavily to us being on the side of the highway for another 2 hours before getting to our destination finally.
Best of all was that after driving for as long as we did, the message on the dashboard indicating that this driving mode needs to be enabled. Incorrect, actually you should have it disabled it because it makes the gas mileage suck even more!

Awful. The worst. I’ve used this U-​Haul location 3x now. Only once have I had a positive experience, if you can even call it that. The worst had to be when I called to make a reservation to have a hitch placed on my vehicle. I was told the time I was coming in was not busy and I would be in and out within 30−45mins. Didn’t start on my vehicle for 1 hr after I arrived. 2.5 hours later my vehicle is done and I have to wait another 30 mins until I can get to the counter to pay and leave. Long lines. Terrible service. Inconsistent. NEVER USE THIS UHAUL LOCATION.

I could not have asked for a better moving and truck rental experience. The morning of my move, someone stole my car, leaving me stranded without transportation and struggling to shuffle all of my moving appointments. The staff at Uhaul of North Minneapolis were extremely helpful, assisting with a reschedule of my reservation and letting me pick the truck up early to meet the movers. Ellis and Veronica in particular were extremely nice and super helpful! I will definitely use this Uhaul spot again for my next move!

I bought moving supplies from here and the employees were always helpful and professional. They always carry my purchases out to my car for me. They have earned my returning business.

So moving, lifting and hauling stuff is never fun, but waiting in line for twenty minutes while an apathetic employee slowly checks out another disorganized patron certainly doesn’t make it any better. I’ve reserved moving vans at this location twice, and it was a pretty excruciating wait both times. Not because I’m impatient, because the process is flawed and the employees don’t really mind. Also, don’t expect to leave your car there until you’re back with your truck. That’s ridiculous and all the employees will let you know that.
The prices are fair and the hours are flexible. You can drop off your keys over night if you can’t make it back before they close. It’s a good option if you are trying to move affordably, but expect things to move real slow.

I always look to reviews when looking for moving services. We have had 3 AWESOME experiences with this U-​Haul location. Not only have we always been able to get a truck, sometimes only calling a few days in advance, they are also flexible and allow you to change your truck size or cancel your order up to 24 hours ahead of time. Their customer service is outstanding (both on the phone and in-​person) and we have never had issues with trucks. I highly recommend renting a truck from this location.

Do you miss Mother Russia and all she had to offer, such as unnaturally long lines, surly and slow employees that go off on ten-​minute smoke breaks every three minutes, and bitterly inane bureaucracy? If your answer is yes, you may be interested in renting a truck from this particular U-​Haul.
About a month ago, my boyfriend reserved a truck at 9am so we could move out of his apartment and clean it by noon. When we arrived at 9am today, there was a line twelve deep and ONE employee working. More people were arriving after us. It was immediately clear this was going to be a hot, tranny mess. To diffuse the situation, I went off to the SuperAmerica to get a coffee and a Redbull. This took about ten minutes. When I returned, Severin had moved exactly one person closer to the front. OMG.
The manager had to drop in to lend a hand. Everyone was kind of freaking out, because we at this point; we were all thinking along the lines of, «I reserved a truck ages ago, they only scheduled ONE (really slow ass) employee today, and I have to move out by noon?» To make things worse, there were three trucks blocking the driveway whose keys were missing.
Somehow, just somehow, she was able to process each reservation in three to five minutes. A lot of this probably had to do with not being hung over, but also not stepping out for five or ten minutes at a time every three minutes and then walking s-​l-​o-​w-​l-​y back in. We ended up with her and left with a truck. At this point, it was around 10:12am.
We were able to move all our boxes out and clean the apartment by noon. The truck was supposed to be in at 3pm, but due to the delay, we got in by 4 or so, after moving everything into the new apartment. We parked across the street from the U-​Haul, because there was another truck in the driveway that blocked the entrance, despite the fact there were empty spaces. Not sure why they thought the driveway entrance was a good spot to park.
This time, there were three employees, with the really slow guy working too. We got there just in time; everyone piled in for the second wave of truck rentals behind us. Unfortunately, we ended up with the really slow guy. By the way, this employee’s name is Al. Beware. We had watched him plod in and out of the office, and eating Pringles while talking to/​frustrating the customers.
He asked us where the truck was. When we told him we had parked across the street, he told us that we needed to park it in the lot.
«There’s no room, the driveway is blocked,» my boyfriend said.
«I can see plenty of room from here,» said Al.
My boyfriend told Al to go outside and take a good look, but Al refused to budge.
«Are you being paid to work or eat chips?!» my boyfriend asked as he went out the door to park it just so we could get the hell out. I stayed at the counter to save our spot, because the line was fifteen deep. Boyfriend came back in, paid, and it was over.
When we headed out, the truck was hanging half out into the street as my boyfriend had predicted. Tell me, Al: HOW MUCH SENSE DOES THIS MAKE. Why risk your company merchandise to get hit? What about other people returning trucks? Where are they going to park?
I would say that my first experience with U-​Haul will be my last experience with U-​Haul. From maddeningly illogical employees and ridiculously poor management, I gaurantee you will hate yourself for ever giving them money.
