The Wow Bar Blow Dry & Style Bar

Updated review: I had my second blowout in a month at WOW bar, and this was a much better experience. I ended up getting an added «boost» to my blowout, which my hair definitely needed. It was only $ 20 extra, which I didn’t mind because it prolongs the blowout and will help my hair for 3 – 5 washes. My stylist was amazing this time, she listened to what I wanted and was extremely fast, but my hair still looks amazing! She used less heat, but still enough to do the job well. My only reasoning for 4 vs 5 stars is that I was started late, even though I was one of the only clients, I had to hang up my own coat and get water, both of which are easy things but are pretty customary at a salon, especially when it’s so empty. Overall, for $ 55 ($ 35 for the blowout and $ 20 for the boost), it was well worth it. I plan to continue going when I’m in town, but I seriously hope it becomes more consistent.

I was in Minneapolis this past weekend for holiday parties and I had my hair done at WOW bar, the service was amazing! What a nice, relaxing experience, and they were able to accommodate me last minute, and my hair looked great, for both Friday and Saturday nite parties! The location is perfect and the environment is super cute, got to relax sipping some champagne and Greta was wonderful! I’ll definitely come back here every time I’m in Minny!

My experience at Wow Bar was disappointing. I had an 8am appointment… along with about 10 other people. There will several problems right off the bat:
1. They didn’t let the group of us waiting for our 8am appointments into the studio until 8am. So then we all stood in line waiting to check in. If you have an 8am appointment, you should expect it start then. You shouldn’t expect the studio to be scrambling to open in time.
2. It was obvious that many of the stylists were running late & many of us sat waiting around. No apologies, no explanations.
3. When my stylist came to get me, there were only 3 shampoo bowls, so a line formed at the shampoo bowls as the 8am appointments all awkwardly waited our turn.
4. My stylist said about 10 words to me and didn’t really do what I asked of her. (I don’t know her name because she never introduced herself.) My hair came undone not long after my appointment. In fact, I went home and had to curl a few of my pieces myself.
All in all, a really unprofessional experience. Everyone seemed tired and/​or hungover. I will not be back and I will go back to Juut in Uptown where the entry level stylists do $ 25 blow outs. The last blow out I had there was awesome & stayed all day.

This review of the Wow Bar is for their Saint Paul location! Firstly, parking was a breeze because they have a lot in the back of their building. I was checked in immediately and had to wait ten minutes past my appointment time. The waiting lounge was an absolute mess — there was no formal place or cubbies for clients’ belongings so they just had coats and purses all over the couch. On the counters — hairstyling products and caribou coffee cups were scattered all over. So it was a turn off that there was no receptionist or person keeping the establishment tidy. The space is very modern, chic and lit up. My stylist was very friendly not to mention accommodating! A perk during the hair rinse is that the chairs vibrate! It was very relaxing. I chose the Glam hairstyle and told her I would like really big, sky high voluminous hair (don’t we all?). Having very thick and long hair, my appointment was about an hour and twenty minutes. She diligently styled my hair and perhaps could have been more generous with product. The finished hair look amazing but sadly it didn’t last or hold for an event I attended so I was disappointed. $ 35 for a blowout and style is decent. Great experience!

I have received multiple blowouts before at a blowout bar in my home town. I went to the Wow Bar when I was in Minneapolis for a wedding and it was a CRAZY wedding weekend for all venues, hotels, and obviously blowout bars. Although my appointment was at 10:45 and the salon opened at 10am, they were already running behind when I got there. However, they handled it very well. I didn’t feel that my appointment was rushed although they were behind and they were still very friendly — I didn’t feel they were stressed or rushing at all. Pleased with how my hair looked and my experience. It was a really sweet place.

It really depends on who you have as the stylist. I did not have a very advanced stylist and after asking her twice if my hair would fall with curls she said no. However, it fell within an hour or so, and I was very upset. (Her name was Jen)

my wife had made an appt to get her hair done for a wedding that evening. it’s her first time there also. from what she told me, when she walked in, her first reaction was how nice it looked but also how insanely hot (temperature wise) it was in there from all the blow dryers running constantly. now it’s a good thing i waited in my car for her or else i would’ve been sweating like crazy. my wife is always cold and even she couldn’t take the heat. she did say that within 5 minutes, it started airing out and cooling down. she told me that when she first walked in, she went straight to the counter. thinking she would be greeted, she wasn’t. so she told them she had an appt and gave them her name. they didn’t seem to smile or anything and then just told her to have a seat and that someone will come get her shortly. first impressions are always a plus but she didn’t seem to get that. after she sat down, one of the ladies at the front desk brought her an ipad to look at the styles they offer. she said she knew which one she wanted already but thanked her. she was also offered something to drink which my wife declined. just having that happened, my wife said that made up for the no smile/​no greet. it seemed like they were flustered from the rush right before she walked in. my wife had waited a little over 10 minutes before getting her hair washed but she wasn’t in any rush. if anything, she was concerned that i would be waiting too long in the car given it was a warm day with some breeze. my wife forgets the girl name who worked on her hair but she was friendly and would ask her questions every now and then. although my wife wanted «the glam» hair, the stylist told her it would be too much volume so she told my wife that she’ll do a mix of «the glam» and «the foxy» (some volume with some curls). my wife loved her experience and her hair. when she went to go pay, the ladies at the front desk seemed so much nicer, smiled, asked her how everything went and everything. let’s just say my wife left a pretty big tip. i was shocked when i saw her hair. it was a little too poofy/​big for me so i kept on touching her hair to push it down. she said that she recommends it and will be coming back there again.

This review is for the hair style, only. Everything else about this place deserves 5 stars.
Inconsistent. I came here 2 years ago and had the absolute best experience. Today’s experience was ok. As I walked to a nearby boutique, they had a mirror and I caught a glimpse of my hair that was already straight and flat. I just spent ½ hour sectioning off my hair and curled it and sprayed it to look curly. Granted I have heavy, thick hair, I get it. I had a fabulous experience at a TriBeCa blow out salon last week with the curl lasting 7 days in my hair, so I know my hair does cooperate. Maybe next time I come my style will last. Thanks

Best blow outs in town hands down. Always friendly, timely and great hair washes as well. I love this place!!!

I’ve been getting blowouts for years. I often don’t go to blow-​dry bars, because the blowouts are often mediocre and the products not always the greatest Wow is a gem because the blowouts are great, efficient, and they use top product lines. Products are the secret to maintaining a great blowout for days!
I’ve been to both the St. Paul and Edina locations. St. Paul just opened and needs your support! Go today and you’ll have great hair for days.

My mom, sister, and I all came in to get our hair done on a Sunday morning. I made sure to request a «thick» hair appointment for myself and my sister… I don’t think they realized that we both have an abnormal amount of hair. Thankfully, they didn’t mind nor did they charge extra. The entire salon was so nice, the wash was relaxing, and my hair looks fab. Next time I’m in town, I will definitely be coming back!

I’ve been going to the Wow Bar since it opened over a year ago. I’m obsessed. I am there at least once a week. I always get a great blowout. The people are great. Highly recommend.

I’ve been here maybe a dozen times and really love it. Sometimes I’ll need my hair done for something last minute and it’s super easy to book an appointment and get the exact look you want. They have an extensive menu to choose from and staff undergoes regular training. My favorite styles are the Foxy and the Glam. The blowouts last a while, especially if you use dry shampoo regularly.

Wow is correct! This salon is utterly amazing. I’ve been to a ton of different blow out salons in the past and this place blows everyone else out of the water.
I randomly decided to get my hair done and really didn’t think I’d get an appointment because it was Saturday night. Wrong. I was given a few different times and got one that worked perfectly with my schedule.
When I got there I received a pleasant hello and was offered a beverage. Then when I met my stylist (Charlie) I was happy to see him listen to how I wanted my hair done.
In order to wrap this up… I’ll just skip to the good parts: warm towels, cold water rinse to close hair cuticles and make it super shiny, awesome conversation, and of course a fantastic blow out.
I honestly don’t know if I’ll go anywhere else to get my blow outs. I can’t give enough praises for this place and it is mainly due to Charlie. If you go here (which you absolutely have to) please see him. Just a wonderfully talented person who should really be called an artist.

I had never had a blowout before Saturday, so I really have nothing to compare it to, other than salon experiences for haircuts. So that’s the viewpoint here.
Parking: Website said to park in the lot behind the building, or in the (free) ramp across the street. I selected the parking lot, which wasn’t the best option as you have to walk around the block to get to the store front; they don’t use their rear door for public entry. A minor inconvenience but next time I’d park elsewhere unless the street and ramp were full.
Atmosphere: Clean, bright, and chic. The waiting area was a tad small, but perhaps that’s because most people don’t have to wait long! I sure didn’t.
Shampoo: Very nice. Massage chair with warm towel. Fantastic shampoo massage that is practically worth the blowout price alone. Product smelled great, and all the ladies present were chatty and having fun.
Style: Being my first time, I was full of questions (which my stylist was used to and handled well). I got to watch the transformation of my hair from it’s natural state (virgin, wavy but hard to tame) to movie star glam. I left the chair feeling like a new woman! It was fantastic.
Makeup: For an additional fee, you can have your makeup done as well (just eyes or full face). I opted for eyes since I was going to a wedding and I wanted that little extra pop. The bubbly gal listened to my request (drama but not Tammy Fay Baker) and totally delivered. The perfect finishing touch to my little afternoon of prettiness.
Bottom line: I researched the local shops on Unilocal and elsewhere before I made the decision to come to WOW. I did not regret my choice. I will be back, either for the next occasion I want my hair taken up a notch or someday when I just deserve a nice treat.
Since Unilocal doesn’t allow us to, I’ll just state that this really is a 4.5 star review. The only reason this is not a perfect review is the parking situation. I just can’t give a perfect review without a private dedicated lot and easy access to the entry.

I went to The Wow Bar with my mother in honor of her birthday. I’m originally from Minneapolis but have lived in NYC and LA since the blow dry bar trend took off. Having been to a few places that I love in both big cities, I was surprised to receive some one of the best service I have had to date at Wow Bar. Their ipad application is a really fun way to provide options of hair styles to consumers and who doesn’t love a place that offers you champagne.
Great people, great space… most importantly — I got lots of compliments on my «wow» hair.

Went here for the first time and loved it! Charlie was my stylist and he was so great. I have very thick hair, and most times I get a haircut stylists give up in styling my hair because it takes so long. He was meticulous and spent so much time on each and every strand of hair to make it perfect.
Was my first blow-​out ever, and will be back to visit Charlie when I need another one!

Love this place!
I was visiting the area for a wedding and tried this place for a blow-​out before the wedding.
The salon itself has a great design and they have an adorable puppy as their mascot.
The staff was very friendly and did a great job of greeting me with a smile upon my arrival. While I waited, they provided me with an ipad that had a lay– out of different style ideas. That made it easy to let my stylist know what look I wanted.
The stylist who did my hair provided me with a relaxing shampoo and head massage before my blow-​out. She also did a great job styling my hair and was careful and took her time to make sure that it turned out smooth. I was very pleased with how my hair turned out.
It was pouring down rain after my appointment was finished and a staff member walked me to my car with an umbrella to ensure that my style wasn’t ruined by the rain.
I was very pleased with my experience at Wow and highly recommend it!

I went to the Wow Bar as part of a bachelorette party. I didn’t make the reservation for myself personally so I was a little disappointed to find I was only booked for makeup and not hair but they did say they would try to fit me in if possible which is totally understandable. In the end, I was told there wasn’t time, which again, I get, though I did find it irritating that there was time for a stylist to spend 20+ minutes doing her own hair on the floor rather than take another client.
I was disappointed with the quality of the makeup that was used as well as the quality of the brushes — shedding bristles left and right. Anytime I’ve gotten my makeup done professionally, they’ve always sanitized the makeup in between clients to prevent spreading bacteria. That was not done here by any of the stylists I saw doing makeup and no surprise, I broke out very badly 2 days later when my skin never has issues. Save yourself $ 35 and go get your makeup done at MAC for free.
The main thing that bothered me was that some of the girls in the group were told there «wasn’t time» to do services they had previously been told they could have (makeup, eyelashes, etc.) because the place was booked for a private group 1.5 hours after our reservations and it was taking longer than they anticipated to get everyone through. They had to speak to multiple stylists until they found one who said she would do what she could in the time remaining.
As others have said — underwhelming.

I had a best-​ever blow out with Ashley M. today.
I had to keep from drooling when she shampooed and massaged my head. She was really really good! The massage chairs and hot towels made it all the better.
Ashley made my limp, long hair totally come to life. I left with huge volume and loose pretty curls that stayed perfect after a long, jam-​packed day. Added bonus: she was super sweet and fun to chat with.
I’ll be back! (Wish it could be tomorrow!)
