The Steeple People Thrift Store

I was looking for someone to haul away my old furniture, as I had purchased some new stuff. The furniture store I purchased from wanted $ 35 apiece to haul the old stuff away. That’s $ 175! And most likely they would just take it to the dump. All of the pieces were in fairly good shape, so I wanted someone to get some use out of them. I called Steeple People and two days later two very nice guys came and took away all five pieces (couch, 2 chairs, ottoman and coffee table) for only $ 30. The guys were friendly and really happy to have the furniture. I highly recommend Steeple People if you want to donate items.

This place may be a bit small for a thrift store, but the staff is so helpful. I locked my keys in my car in their parking lot, and they went above and beyond to help me. They are just all-​around good people. If you are looking to find some cheap, great finds. Go here!

I’ve moved recently to uptown Minneapolis from Europe and I don’t have a car. Steeple people saved me, I found very nice furniture for decent prices, I bought a nice comfortable coach and a dining table (ethan allen!) with four chairs. They were amazingly kind and brought them to my place and even mount them here for a little amount of money. You can spend hours in that place and find amazing things for your place.

Why haven’t I visited this store before?
In a quest to find photo booth props for Unilocal’s 4^th Annual Jingle Bowl, I decided to take a trip to Steeple People’s Surplus Store. Stepping in, I felt completely overwhelmed by all of their items. Elf gnomes, reindeer paper holders, Christmas themed bibs — they have it all!
I spoke to a lovely staff member who directed me to some holiday props. I grabbed three reindeer headbands and a Santa Clause beard and brought them to the register. Total cost? Only four dollars! Wow!
Unfortunately, they do not accept credit card. When I told the cashier I would return with some cash, a lady waiting in line said «here, let me get this,» pulled out a five dollar bill and gave it to the cashier. She then said to me «I hope you pay it forward. Happy Holidays!» Even though I rejected her offer, she insisted. I left with a warm feeling and a bag full of photo booth props.
Steeple People’s is a wonderful store that has affordable goods and a friendly staff. I regret not shopping there during graduate school. I would have saved so much money!

I like Steeple People. Their prices are getting a little bit much. The purses and shoes especially. I mean come mon you are a 2^nd hand store so keep your prices low versus pretending you are Macys. Sometimes you can find great deals but at times I am like «For real.»

great little shop to find some hidden treasures. I’ve bought a Upholstered chair there and a few Christmas deco items as well as pillow cases. Great prices and a wonderful cause to support. very friendly staff.

Oh Steeple People — why can’t I quit you? Maybe it’s the the convenient location on Lyndale? The little old lady volunteers or other helpful volunteers who always help me out so much? The sweet sales? The furniture? The home décor? The kitchen stuff? The nooks and crannies full of any used item a person could imagine? The clothes? The lamps? The scarves? The office supplies? The old postcards and cards? And all of it used and usually reasonably priced!
I know, I know — it is all of this. This is all why I find myself stopping short of my bus stop to peruse your selections too frequently and always coming away with some random thing that I either needed or did not need.
Here is a sampling of some of my most recent Steeple People finds: 3 light wall lighting, cute vintage looking purse, a dry erase calendar, beautiful Indian scarf/​shawl, leather vest!, gardening supplies, H&M skirt, and my absolute most favorite recent: a red utility pull wagon, which I pulled into the Wedge with me on my way home from Steeple People and then put my groceries in — I assure you, all of the stares were worth it.
Yup, Steeple People is awesome. Just remember that like other used/​thrift stores sometimes you’ve really got to look to get the good stuff and sometimes the prices are absolutely unreasonable but other times they are absolute steals!
All you can really do is: check. it. out.

Given that I don’t have a car and don’t have money. I thank the spaghetti appendage’d holy one in the sky for this place. I live 2 blocks from this Steeple People and when I moved into my new apartment, this place was a lifesaver. Though I prefer St. Vincent dePaul for furniture and Saver’s for clothes, both of those places are just way too far away for me.
I have bought art for my walls, kitchen utensils, silverware, plates, glasses, an end table, a TV stand, a jewelry box… and much more! They also always seem to have a sale whenever I’m there. This chair that i’m sitting in was 2 dollars! They also have a box of stuff for free at the entrance and I’ve found some pretty cool stuff in there too. I have been known to come in and browse when I am bored.
One time, I had the misfortune of misplacing something in Steeple People. A thrift store is the absolute worse place to misplace something because a) there’s so much other random stuff b) someone might buy it. I never did find my object, but the guy that helped me look for it was really nice. I still say hi to him whenever I run into him.

Steeple People is my favorite thrift store in the Cities. They always have good stuff, but not too much stuff to be overwhelming (as I sometimes experience at some of the bigger chain thrift stores). They also have really good prices on pretty much everything. The clothes may not be as «trendy» as Ragstock or Everyday People, but you also don’t pay close to new prices for used stuff. They often have some sort of sale on a particular item (last week, winter coats were half off and I got a 100% wool coat for only $ 5!), and be sure to watch for their bag sales.
My only wish is that they were open later on weekdays (Mondays they close at 6, T-​F they close at 5:30), but considering they are all volunteer run, their hours are pretty good.

While I personally think the only stuff I’d ever buy is usually what makes it to the front window, Steeple People is actually quite effective if you really need to outfit your place on the cheap. They have pretty much everything you could need for your kitchen, really great deals on solid furniture (even if it’s not my style,) and the volunteers who staff the place are always really nice.
While I usually don’t end up buying anything, I still think they have everything but the kitchen sink, and even then, they might have one at some point (their stock changes somewhat frequently on the good stuff.)
