An alternative to childcare, FSMN Nature Immersion educational program is for children 2 to 6 years during the school year & 2 to 10 years during the summer. Nature immersion learning has been well practiced and received with much acclaim throughout many European countries for the past six decades. FSM, now in our second year of daily immersion into our forest/nature classroom provides immeasurable benefits to the children by way of critical thinking and problem solving skills, confidence in their abilities, body and cognitive, and a more acute and accurate ability to listen, to recall and follow instructions. The sky is our roof and the trees are our walls. The children learn in a manner of fluid discovery and exploration that bring them beyond the limits of a walled environment, bringing deeper and wider thought and questions to their learning, providing a very empowering educational experience. This is a very beautiful way of preparing a young child for the educational years ahead.

History

Established in 1995.

I teach a Nature Immersion preschool in Southwest Minneapolis (Linden Hills). As a year around immersion program, even through the winter months this manner of learning is extrodinary. I have taught in the Waldorf style for 16 years & 4 years ago after much research began teaching Nature Immersion «forest classroom». I began my search/research for a more well rounded educational opportunity after seeing the need to bring more restorative play & nurturing to my students & to assist the children in cultivating their natural instincts and abilities. My research brought me to Forest Schooling which made perfect sense in every way. I have been astounded by the daily interactions my students have each day, the deeply contemplated questions that arise, the patience that has been honed, the ability to really see & hear the environment around them. The natural world is a gift all should receive and we have strayed too far from. Children love the remarkable experiences of Forest Schooling.

As I am now In my 17th year of teaching, with an educational background in Biological and Political Science study, my desire to teach young children came from the recognition of a void to fill and a need recognized when it came to early learning. I chose to create a learning environment for children where there would be total inclusion of all,

kind words and actions taught and practiced, manners developed and a lifetime preparation in each child to learn, to collaborate, to think through to solutions, to build friendships and to be embraced by all those they encounter. A goal To help bring opportunity into their path by assisting each child in polishing their beautiful character traits and acting with conscientious decisions, assisting them to stand out in the sea of possibilities that lie ahead.
