If you’re going here, aim for a really odd time. Anchor is small and very popular, which can lead to long wait times. Don’t even try coming here with a large group! Oddly enough, I don’t eat fish. I do, however, eat beef and their burgers and shepherds pie are fantastic. Their burger is worthy of the awards it has won. It’s made of quality, local, grass-fed meat and never overcooked. The up charge of $ 1.50 for cheddar is a bit steep but the cheddar really adds more great flavor. My thick cut«chips» were soggy and this is why I knocked it down a star. Their bench style seating is also terribly uncomfortable. I guess that is so people don’t hang around too long and it keeps the line shorter!

My overall experience with food trucks hasn’t been very good. .. a few weeks ago I did have a great experience with another food truck, so when Anchor Fish and Chips was parked outside of my building, I thought I would try again, hoping for another great lunch. I was not disappointed. First of all, the fish. .. the freaking thing was about 12 inches long!!! The batter was light and crispy(they fry it up fresh, so there is a wait time involved, but totally worth it!) and it reminded me of tempura batter. I do wish they had malt vinegar available(personal preference), but the tartar sauce was good. Just a suggestion to the Anchor. .. you may want to slightly season the actual fish a bit — while it was hot, flaky, and moist, it did need some salt on the actual fish before putting the batter on. The salt that was added after it came out of the fryer fell off the fish… The chips were well seasoned(they could have used about 15 more seconds in the fryer) and had great actual potato flavor. I did add a squirt of ketchup to my basket for the chips, but I didn’t use it, as the flavor of the chips was more than enough. Was it pricier than what I usually spend for lunch. .. yes. Would I line up behind the 10 people already in line to order it again. .. YES!

If you don’t get a chance to get into their restaurant, find out where their truck will be to enjoy some amazing fish and chips! The first time I had the fish was at the inaugural Food Truck festival in Uptown a couple years back. The line was super long, but for good reason and the wait was worth it! Imagine fish the size of your forearm with crispy chips and amazing tarter sauce! $ 11 and the amount of food you get is so worth it. Normally the food truck is located in Saint Paul during the work week or next do the breweries around town. I was at an event across the street and happened to see the truck from the corner of my eye last night outside the window. I of course had to tell my husband and our mouths were watering already. Even though we had plenty of treats to snack on at the party, we couldn’t resist and I had to walk over to the truck to put in a order to go. The aroma is so enticing and it hurt me to not dig in as soon as I got the food. We ended up leaving in the car to enjoy after the event, and it still tasted amazing a couple hours later. The fish is flaky and the batter is crispy. not too much though and I am normally not a big fan of tarter sauce, but would definitely dip everything in their homemade sauce. Chips were what we like, thicker steak style fries, fried to a crisp and a perfect complement to the fish. Yes, with this description there is a lot of fried and grease, but that is how it should be when you are eating a good meal of fish & chips! What would have made it even more perfect was a cold glass of beer, which unfortunately at 10pm on a weeknight wasn’t in the cards for us, but highly encourage a cold brew to go along with your meal.

Yummy, yummy, yummy! If you are looking for a great meal for an amazingly reasonable price the Anchor is definitely a great choice. I went here with a 5 group posse and everyone enjoyed their meal. 2 of us got the fish. Which was perfectly breaded and deep fried. Brace yourself, possibly the best fried fish I have ever had. This fish was huge and came with freshly mixed tartar sauce. It was the perfect combination of fluffy, light, and buttery. My sister got the meat pie, per recommendation by a huge guy at the next table. He was possibly a food angel because this meat pie was ridiculously delicious. The meat pie was slightly crispy on the outside, moist and delicious on the inside. Super flavorful. Lastly, we also had the Helicopter burger. super good. The fried egg in the burger was a perfect addition, adding wonderful complexity to a traditional burger. The Helicopter burger is juicy, filling and definitely won’t disappoint. Not only is the food great, but the ambiance of the place is fantastic. It is rustic and casual. The staff is friendly and laid back. I knew I would love this place because above the door was an exit sign and above the exit sign was a small picture of Spock from the original Star Trek. Random and awesome! The only other thing is that the Anchor has some great local brews and the staff is very knowledgable and give great suggestions. However, you can only order a drink if you order food because of how their liquor license works. The Anchor definitely a NE Minneapolis gem.

After consulting the Unilocal reviews, we chose The Anchor(the brick and mortar-not the food truck) We each picked different entrees. Fish & chips, meat pastie and battered sausage with chips. The fish was a huge portion so I shared it with my family. Sampled the meat pastie and found it very flavorful. I will definitely order that next time. I did enjoy my fish and chips as did the rest of my tablemates. Its a cool place to eat with a counter and also tables. It was busy and told it would be a half hour wait, but three seats opened up at the counter so we only waited a couple minutes. Much of the menu was deep fried. They did a Shepards Pie that looked good. Daytripper pale ale was good. We recommend this place and dont be afraid to try some that sounds different. You won’t be sorry.

On a hot summer’s day drinking beer at Dabbler event with my dad, we noticed an out-of-the-ordinary lack of line outside of the Anchor Fish & Chips Food Truck and decided to give it a go. He ordered a meat pastie and I ordered a veggie, both of which came out quickly. It might seem like blasphemy to order anything besides fish and chips from a place with Fish & Chips in the name, but neither of us were disappointed. After scoping out other Unilocal reviews, it appears my only mistake was not ordering a side of curry. Every other time I’ve spotted the truck out and about, the line is at least 20 deep — but I will correct this atrocious curry mistake when I head to the brick and mortar this week!

Oh my, this place is amazing! The fries were made just right and the fish was ginormous, flaky and delicious. My husband, his brother, sister-in-law and I all split an order of fish and chips. It was a perfect size appetizer for four people, although I would have gladly eaten an order all by myself. I only wish I lived in Minneapolis so that I could have fish and chips from here all the time. Unfortunately, I don’t, so I will make sure to hit this place up every time I visit.

Decided to get carry out from here instead of waiting in the hour long line inside on Good Friday. It took about 15 minutes. The portions are big & really good! I wish they gave you lemon for the fish and seasoned the batter more. The tartar sauce is fantastic!

I love good Fish and Chips and have Iived through many false promises of having found some great purveyor of them. So I was skeptical when I saw the food truck set up at a concert I was attending this past weekend. But, I was hungry, and my stomach prevailed, and I am SO glad I listened to my stomach on this one! The fish was cooked perfectly, the batter was light, crispy, and not grease laden. The chips were heavenly and had the right amount of crunch and salt. The curry chips were also fantastic and should be tried! The concert was a two day event, as was my experience with The Anchor, I ate there both days, and was immensely satisfied having done so. Good job!

I’ve been thinking about hitting up the Anchor truck for a while now and today all it took was a tweet that they were at Fulton brewery for the afternoon — than and the fact that the twins game was away, so traffic and parking wouldn’t be an issue. There was a light rain but that wasn’t stopping people from walking up to order their lunch. We got the fish and chips and a second order of fish along with tartar sauce. The food was ready in a few minutes and I walked it back to the car. First off I could have gotten by with just the order of fish and chips for the two of us — the portion was huge! What really rocked my world was the batter on the fish, über crispy, thin, delicious batter with an incredible crunch to it. The filet was substantial and top quality fish. The chips were plank cut skin on spuds. Both the fish and the chips were tossed with some coarse salt before serving. There is no doubt about a return trip to the Anchor truck, if not many more.

Checked out the Anchor Truck while catching some tunes at Harriet Brewing last night. Just as good as the brick and mortar! Fish come out hot, tasty and crispy! The fries are great — they are never crispy — for those complaining below as if that were to happen, they would have to be cut much thinner and wouldn’t come to you straight outta the fryer! And for the person below that said«it’s an open secret that the fish are tasteless» — umm white fish in general aren’t super flavorful — their flavor is more subtle in general . Anyways — it’s delicious — still the best fish and chips in town. And other Irish goodies!

On a hot summer(okay, so almost summer) day, a friend and I decided to visit Fulton and were pleasantly surprised to see The Anchor food truck parked outside. While I’ve never been to the actual physical location in NE, I was impressed enough by the food and service I received to want to go check it out now. If you like fried food, better not miss this one. My friend ordered the battered sausage, which was juicy, flavorful, and laden with delicious(and artery-clogging) crispy coating. I ordered the meat pastie, which I had… mistakenly… thought would come in a dough wrapper. Instead, I was served a patty of veggies and meat that had been double deep-fried — and after waiting for it to cool, though it was hard to be patient, I was rewarded with a savory and filling treat. To be frank, the fries are nothing special. They seem as if they’re hand cut, which is always a nice surprise, but if you’re looking for crunchy, look elsewhere — and the friendly and obliging staff at The Anchor serve them in massive quantities. I ended up throwing away almost half of the portion I was served; with the hot sun, heavy pastie, Fulton beer, and general malaise that follows me when eating deep fried food, it was all just a little too much. Hooray for food trucks that take debit cards — way to know your customers and adapt, The Anchor! The lady taking orders had a big smile for everyone waiting in line and referenced each of our names when thanking us for stopping by. Inside the truck, I could see that the stainless steel was shining and all surfaces looked clean and polished — definitely a good impression of the care and maintenance The Anchor puts in to ensure quality food preparation and a great customer experience.

I thought I wasn’t a huge fish and chips fan(a thought I noted in my now-quite-old review of the brick and mortar Anchor), but I’m about to eat my words… Fried fish tastes good. It just does. Oh, I should probably mention that I didn’t even order the fish here(because of my aforementioned-and-now-antiquated aversion to fish and chips). I just kept stealing forkfuls of fish from my friend’s enormous, flaky filet while repeating, «OK, last bite.» Sure, I might like it more if the batter had more seasoning or if there were different sauces available aside from plain tartar, but Anchor is nothing if not authentic to everything I ate in Ireland. And the chips… my stars. The chips are fantastic. Just throw some sea salt and vinegar on the whole plate and give it to me so I can shove them into my mouth ASAP. Or smother them with curry gravy for an extra $ 3 and never look back. They also have regular gravy, but I’d be too scared to risk it when the curry is that good. I wasn’t a complete mooch. I ordered chips and curry gravy with a meat pastie. The chips were consumed at a record pace, but the pastie was pretty much ignored after we shared a couple of bites. It thought it would be more of a filled pastry(which I now know is a Cornish pasty rather than an Irish pastie… Wikipedia explained it to me). This was more like a battered meat and potato cutlet… like if you mixed up a shepherd’s pie and then battered and fried it. It didn’t have very much flavor and was a bit too heavy for me. With the chips as a side, it was kind of overkill on the potatoes too. But hey, that’s how we Irish roll I guess. It was the official first day of truck service last weekend when we stopped by during Art-A-Whirl, and I don’t think it could’ve been going more smoothly. The girl that was taking orders was maybe the friendliest, smiliest, happiest person to ever be inside a blazing hot truck on a blazing hot day. And the ladies and gents doing the cooking were very quick considering that there was a steady line tethered to the truck all afternoon. Other than the neglected pastie, the only other improvement for me would be maybe offering a cheaper size for the gravy sides. $ 3 is pretty spendy. It gets you a huge shareable cup, but the two of us only used maybe half of it… though we might have finished it off if there had been spoons at hand. Alas, only forks. The long and the short of it is that there’s still a little room for improvement, but the fish and chips from Anchor have restored my faith in fish and chips.

My boyfriend and I attended the soft opening of this Truck last weekend. It was raining pretty good when we got there so we stopped and had a beer in Grumpy’s and waited for it to die down. There always seemed to be people out ordering, even in the rain. Must be a good sign! We ordered one fish and one sausage and shared them both. Once we ordered, it took about 10 minutes for our food to be ready and it smelled wonderful. I have never eaten at their restaurant so I could not compare the food to that. Although for me personally, this was the best fish I have had in this style anywhere else. Someone else mentioned that the oil would be fresh since the place is new and while that makes complete sense, I still did not get a very heavy feeling from the food as I often do with fried food. It was light, very flavorful and I actually enjoyed most of it plain, without sauce or vinegar. I thought the chips were very fresh as well. The portions were large but not too big, definitely felt like we got a good value, even if we had paid full price. My review is only three stars because of ONE thing and it has nothing to do with the food. Several of the staff were hanging around the front door to the truck talking, and that is fine. However, what is NOT fine is SMOKINGNEARMYFOOD. I realize we were outside but I am ordering food from you and I need to hang around to get it so I can’t get away from your smoke. I found this *very* unprofessional. I will find it hard to order from any food truck who allows employees to hang around near the food smoking. I will try this truck again but if I see the same thing this weekend, you will lose my business even if you have the best food.

Yesterday, we attended the test drive at Grumpy’s NE and were among the very first people who gave the special-priced $ 5.5 fish and chips with tartar sauce a try. To my surprise, the fish was more toothsome than what I had eaten at the restaurant in the past. Although people don’t usually admit it, It’s an «open secret» that the Anchor’s fish are flavorless. After served, you should add something(tartar sauce, pepper, salt, and maybe vinegar?) to give it some flavor. But this time, before I added the sauce, I tried a bite of the fish and it was very tasty. It’s still greasy, though. But the good thing was that because we were among the first people who’re given the fish and chips, the oil was very fresh. I think it’s partly why the fish tasted better this time and the chips weren’t soggy. Also, the fish was huge, as usual, and the wait time was short. I paid by cash. But I saw that they accepted credit cards too.
