Tax Preparation Service

I do not recommend working with Tax Preparation Service (i.e., Stephen, the owner and tax preparer).
My fiancé and I both worked with him in the FY14 tax season as we had a complicated situation (multi-​state filings for both of us, moving expenses from moving to a new state, etc.) and didn’t want to have to deal with stress of figuring out our tax liability without guidance. As such, we decided we would be willing to pay to have them done in order to maintain peace of mind.
Although Stephen was professional and did complete our taxes, it was not a stress-​free process as Stephen was very forgetful/​prone to errors. For each of our returns and at separate times in the process, he neglected to send documents relevant to our returns. He only sent the documents when we asked him if a document was missing (again, different times in the process). Additionally, the day before he submitted my return he notified me that he had made a clerical error and that my return (which I was originally told would be over $ 1K) was only going to be ~$ 100.
The last straw for me was once I had paid his fee, I sent him an email letting him know I was dissatisfied with his service (e.g., the forgotten documents, clerical errors, feeling the need to double check his work… the main thing I was trying to avoid by paying someone to do this in the first place) and he didn’t even bother responding to the feedback.
Again, would not recommend working with Tax Preparation Service/​Stephen — I certainly didn’t find him worth the fee and will not be returning next year.
