Merwin Liquors – Minneapolis

Sketchy as hell! Not sure if anyone reviewing has been here after dark but prepare to be confronted on the way in and out of the store by people just hanging out in front loitering.

Went to Merwin Liquors for the first time last evening… Needless to say, I was blown away by the customer service I received there.
One associate in particular, Adam, had a wine and spirits knowledge that was remarkably impressive. His ability to educate me on finer bourbons and wine resulted in my wallet getting progressively lighter… Thankfully, their prices are ridiculously good so the damage wasn’t nearly what I thought it would be.
Don’t let the store’s location or customer base throw you off, this place is worth the trek. If still unsure, utilize their free delivery service to get your drink on… Either way, I assure you that you will be impressed by their selection, service, and prices.

I went to Miami last year on vacation and bought Absolut Miami Vodka and it was delicious. Strong, and had me feeling great with no hangover the next day. So I went back to NY thinking how i’m going to have my family fall in love with it also but after 8 stores I learned that they do not sell this brand because it is limited edition. I went online and found Merwin Liquors. I purchased 3 bottles which came out to $ 80.00 on December 26 and can you believe I just got it TODAY on December 29? This company is the best. Fast shipping.And I wasn’t expecting it until another 2 weeks. Now I can have it for New Years. I am so happy. The only drawback is the shipping was $ 16.00 but the alcohol was on sale for only $ 21.99 when in New York, Absolut is $ 30.00 or more each, not including tax so i actually got a decent deal. Thanks Merwin for allowing me to have an even better New Years :)

These guys are good.
Had to order a bottle of Hennessy XO for my boyfriends birthday and I couldn’t find it anywhere in my area. So I found this place on Amazon and ordered directly from them.
When i received the box in the mail and opened it up I was shocked to see that my order was wrong. I called them immediately and because of the time difference since I’m in California I left a message. The next morning I wrote and email and called maybe an hour later and John answered the phone. I told him what happened and he was already reading my email and read some if it back to me. Such a relief that even if I didn’t call my email was being read. John was very helpful and kind over the phone. My order was corrected immediately and I received the right bottle in time for the party. These guys are really good about customer service. If I can’t find another bottle these guys will be the first place I look.

This is a review for the online experience. Merwin liquors had a great selection and it wasn’t hard to find exactly what I wanted from their extensive collection (the reason I selected them). I Used PayPal which was convenient for me, and UPS ground since it was reasonably cool making shipping under $ 15 for two bottles. I placed the order on the 13^th, a Thursday Night, it was packed and shipped to Iowa on the 28^th, a Friday, And it arrived on Oct 1, a Monday. No problems with the order, and while two weeks to processes is long by today’s standards generally around a week is pretty standard for Special order alcohol so no problems there. If I need to ship specialty liquor to Iowa again I’ll check Merwin first for their selection and ability to ship where I need it.

Just had a pretty good experience ordering from them online. I’m out in Cali where, it turns out, it’s really hard to get Midwestern microbrews. Namely, Great Lakes’ Brewing’s devilishly tasty Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. (It’s almost like a slightly mocha-​chocolatey stout. Thx Tom R. for introducing me to this!)
When I ordered, they didn’t seem to be familiar with shipping to Cali but we got it sorted out. (If you care about the details: to my knowledge, it is allowed as long as you have a sober 21+ person sign for the shipment, but they didn’t seem to know this and emailed me to request a photocopy of my DL and CC which of course struck me as an ID theft nightmare request so I refused… having been 21 for a darn long time. They later just shipped it with the customary UPS sticker saying it must go only to someone sober and 21+. Clearly, if underage drinking is your goal, ordering online isn’t going to make it any easier.)
Anyway, the beer price was fair enough but the shipping cost was painful… and be advised that (even at 100%+ markup) shipping charges do _​not_​count towards their $ 50 minimum for shipping an order. Worth it for a special occasion.

Great prices, fast and FREE LOCAL DELIVERY, great selection, what more do you want? Free booze? Ok, yeah that would definitely make it a 5 star rating but I guess they need to make money. I really like Merwins. It seems like they really care about their customers.

I’ve loved Merwins long time, and still do, especially because now they deliver to my house (about 10 miles away!!). The only reason they don’t get 5 stars though, is because every time I order online for next day delivery something goes wrong. (EX: products not in stock and I either don’t get them or they make lame substitutions, no driver on duty so I go boozless for the weekend waiting, or wrong product shipped) They also gon’t give a time window in advance for delivery, which cancause problems because someone (21+) needs to be home to sign for it. They usually (but not always) call when they’re on the way, which works for me since I have aweome neighbors that can always help me out with that, at least.
The store is very good; with a nice selection, promotions (sign up for the card!), and fair to average prices. It has the best price on Jäger’, Greygoose, and a wonderful online selection of Scotch and whiskeys.
Service is good and there’s always security at the door, or in the parking lot, because there are some rowdy patrons (I love coming here at 9:45 on a Friday night. haha!).

Merwin is clean, updated, and real friendly. Whatever you need, they probably have. You might be the minority, but you’ll win the majority vote. Friendly staff at the checkout is usually joking with you. Always wishing everyone a good night, unlike stuck up Surdyk’s.
Go get some beer here and feel real again.

They use false information to promote their products. For example from their description bottle would be bottled in Guatemala, but you will receive some other country. It is sad. After all anticipation and waiting it is such a big disappointment. Bottles bottled in some other countries very easily can be purchased from other stores online.
I would not say they are the cheapest. I was able to find better deals on first page when used Google search. maybe when they have sale on common wines they are cheap…

My 100^th review is dedicated to Merwins, which has made for some of the happiest times of my life, many of them involving old milk jugs filled with bottom shelf tequila. If it’s not the most ghetto liquor store in Mpls, it’s definitely top three. It’s also my favorite place to stock up on cheap booze. Right away when you walk in there is a display with some random B-​list brand on sale, and it’s always a good bet to just buy it and see where it takes you. Past display purchases have included Phillips vodka and a bright green melon liquor that when mixed with energy drink, Mountain Dew and vodka is a recipe for kick-​ass. Make sure you get a discount card, it gets you 10% off on weekdays plus there’s an additional wine discount on Mondays and a Ladies/​Seniors discount on Tuesdays.
Other pros: Ample parking, fast food-​adjacent, and you are almost guaranteed to see some crazy shit happening. And if you’re coming in from downtown on Washington Ave, you get to drive past a gas station with a sweet-​ass giant bee hive.
Cons: None. If you don’t like this place, I don’t want to know you.

This is my favorite liquor store. It doesn’t get as busy as Surdyk’s, so if I only need booze, I come here. There is usually room in the parking lot and its easy to get to, off of 94 and Broadway. They have a decent selection of wine and beer here at a cheap price. They also deliver, I don’t think many liquor stores do that around here.
Plus I usually look for reasons to go into North MPLS. There aren’t many food options, so its usually for this or the $ 5 Little Cesar’s Pizza, across the street. Something interesting usually happens.
