Luckily my MarqVII bar experience improved by the end of my stay in Minneapolis. Alexander is a great barkeep and easy on the eyes to boot. He isn’t overly friendly or anything, but it’s obvious he «gets it» — just perceptive in general. The other taller/dark haired guy was good too. Both guys kept an eye out and ensured patrons felt safe and comfortable. Non-Marquette guests(visitors and locals) stop in all the time, so there’s a seemingly constant flow of interesting people to talk to. Convenient for me, too; I didn’t feel the need to go elsewhere for a beverage. Anyway, thanks for your generosity Alexander!

As far as hotel bars go, this one is tops. The bartender was nice and attentive, and the server was helpful(I switched tables a few times because it was freezing in the front area of the hotel.) I had the Basil’s salad — goat cheese and fresh greens made this the perfect late-night dinner. The beer cheese soup was also quite delicious. My gimlet of vodka and grapefruit juice/syrup was just right. Not too sweet, not too strong — just right. I would definitely return here if I was staying in town for more days. The ambiance is just right for the weary traveler, and the music, albeit a bit elevator-y was a good fit. It was also great that everyone who works in the hotel is friendly with one another and they all check in with each other towards the end of the evening.
