How in the world can this place have less than a 4 – 5 star rating? It is the best. Try the Mac and cheese. Try the turkey burger. Try an omelette. Or a cake. Or a cinnamon roll. It is so great!!!

Came here on a Saturday morning with my typical CrossFit crew for breakfast after our workout. They have an open floor plan with a bright and happy vibe about it. Our group of 10 sat down & most ordered those gigantic cinnamon rolls that come with a heap of butter on the side of the plate. Everyone agreed they were delicious. The server was quick with drinks and orders, not super friendly but very efficient. I ordered the Corn Beef Hash($ 10.99) –it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great. It seemed the consensus was the food was pretty mediocre. There was a feeling that we could make these things at home & they’d taste about the same. It was hard for me to write a review for this restaurant because it was kind of a forgettable experience. For me, it failed to create any memorable moments. I was searching for that ‘signature’ that made it stand out among my other breakfast experiences & sadly, couldn’t find it. I wouldn’t object to coming back, hell, I’ve already forgot if I’ve been here before.

Been here twice now, once in 2014& once a few weeks ago. I went this last time because I remembered the food was amazing. My memory wasn’t as accurate as I’d hoped, but it could’ve just been what I ordered. Service was only ok, but my boyfriend said that he thought the staff seemed standoffish to him. He also didn’t like the French toast & my eggs Benedict was not very flavorful.

We have been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally did last weekend. I think the atmosphere is so cute and quaint. There is a typical diner bar in the middle and then booths and tables on the parameters of the restaurant. I had coffee(SO good!) and their traditional eggs benedict that came with crispy hash browns. It was a huge portion size that I could only finish one of my eggs when I typically am licking the plate at the end of the meal. The service was great and there weren’t any complaints about the food. I would come back in a heartbeat! Tip: Call ahead and make a reservation if you are coming for brunch on the weekend.

First of all, the stupid waitress gave me Luke warm coffee. How can you be so inconsiderate and not check if it’s not fresh. The the food took 20+ minutes to come out. I mean how long does it take to cook eggs and pancakes. The pancakes wasn’t even fresh it was soggy as fuck. Then my sandwich was colder than winter. You guys fucked up. I’m never coming here ever again. Terrible service terrible food terrible business. Fuck you!

A big group of us met up here for brunch. Even though the restaurant was bustling with excitement(it was really busy) the server and staff we’re on top of their game. I am in love with the store décor. The one thing that bothered me were some of the portions. The special that day was a breakfast burrito of some sort and it was delicious and HUGE. Then my friend ordered the french toast and even though the one piece was supposedly very dense, it was pretty small for the price… Otherwise it’s a really nice and warm environment with delicious food!

Diner style café with booze. Great option for a family or someone who is hungover and in need of a little greasy medicine. Hash browns can be prepared crispy which is a plus. I had the Eggs Benedict which wasn’t earth shattering. What was however beyond delicious was the salmon breakfast sandwich — I will come back just for that!

We came to this place for brunch solely because of their bottomless mimosas, and oh were we in for a surprise. About 30 minutes past noon our enjoyment of said beverage was suddenly brought to a halt by an inexperienced server that decided my wife should not imbibe any more. AREYOUKIDDINGME? What kind of place that brands themselves on bottomless mimosas(and charges considerably more than other places around town) does this? We were apparently being«too loud» and having too much of a good time for this place — which is loud and packed on a Sunday morning anyways. She was fine, a little tipsy which is to be expected from a mimosa rush, but nothing that justified being cut off, such as throwing up in the floor, taking her top off or slurring(well-deserved) profanities at the server. To top it off, the food was bland; I had the chorizo omelette and it was nothing to write home about. The chilaquiles were ok but again nothing that blew my mind. Too bad for this place, we will have to take our business back to Loring Kitchen. I couldn’t help but laugh at the manager when we complained and she recommended we give this place a try again. HA! I don’t think so. Hope all that leftover orange juice plugs your drains. If you come to this place and have their evil-waitress-will-cut-you-off mimosas, try dressing up as a nun or a priest and be extra quiet, maybe that way they’ll keep on serving you.

Great restaurant with very friendly service. Had the Hen Potatoes which were sweet potatoes and delicious. The Italian sausage was great too. A bit spicy, but not too much. I will definitely be coming back when I am back in the area.

This place was hopping on a Sunday morning! I had the pancakes with eggs and bacon. Latte and then a cup of decaf to finish up. The latte was great and not to watered down or Starbucksie. The cup of decaf was also a quality brew. The food was good quality and fresh and the staff was attentive. It looks like they have a great selection of microbrew beer if you come in later in the day.

Was visiting for a wedding and this place was a block down from the hotel. Food wise. ITWASDELICIOUS. the tiramisu pancakes were THEBOMB. If you are in a group i would recommend getting a savory plate and then sharing the tiramisu pancake among the group, its definitely very rich and very sweet. I got a Benedict and the egg was cooked to perfection. Atmosphere was nice but service was spotty. The initial drink order took a pretty long time and it was after the lunch rush(2 ish). Food took a pretty long time too and the server disappeared for a really long time. like a really long time. not ‘me being hangry and i want food now’ long time. But he was no where on the dinning floor for like 30 minutes at a time. Great food. would love to come back if im ever in the city again.

This place is great! I didn’t expect downtown Minneapolis to have so many awesome brunch places, but during the we were there we found this great eatery. The service here is top notch and the décor is really simple, modern, and lots of sun floods in through the windows — get a window seat if you can! We got the chicken and waffles and the smoked salmon benedict. Both were delicious. I loved the apple coleslaw on the chicken and waffles — the chicken was super crispy and the waffle was fluffy, The smoked salmon benedict was hearty and so full of flavor. I enjoyed every bite of the toasted muffin, smokey salmon, gooey eggs, and the sauce was delicious. The hash browns were nice and crispy too! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who has a hankering for brunch. You will not be disappointed!

We had such a great brunch here on Sunday– and it all happened by accident! We had settled on another Bottomless Mimosa brunch spot(that rhymes with Smoring Litchen), but after waiting 20+ minutes for a server and waters we took our reservations elsewhere. We did a quick search of Bottomless Mimosa spots in downtown Minneapolis and found Hen House. We called to check on seating(and mimosa!) availability and were met with a very pleasant host on the phone telling us to come on down. Our table of four was seated without a wait on their outside patio and promptly greeted by a friendly server. Our early brunch hiccups were all but forgotten by the time our first round of drinks arrived. The food portions were large, delicious and they had no issues with any of our modifications. The mimosa refills were brought out via carafe and our glasses were never empty. The orange juice was fresh squeezed too! At no point were we ever rushed or judged for our large consumption of adult breakfast beverages. I had the Ranchero Tostadas(corn tortillas topped with refried black beans, eggs, queso fresco, avocado and cilantro, served with hash browns and salsa) and they were fantastic and flavorful! Notes: Bottomless Mimosas were $ 15 instead of the standard $ 10, but the fresh squeezed OJ, quick refills and champagne to OJ ratio justified the extra $ 5.

The place was nice, the service was fast, and they have options. I had a large glass of OJ. Clearly it is made in house… But it tasted older than fresh so that takes a little away from the experience. The food came out faster than could be expected on a Saturday morning for brunch. Gerry got the salmon benedict. He enjoyed it and explained later that it is a bit salty. I ordered the chilaquilles with Chorizo. It came with came with carnitas but that was a pleasant mistake. I normally love chillaquilles however this time it tasted a but salty– as in I still had salt in my mouth after drinking a glass of water. Added some ketchup and siracha to break up the salt flavor… Made it better. The two eggs get lost in the meal. I probably wont be back but enjoyed the experience.

Hen House, I’ve only been in you once, but I’m infatuated. Baked goods for days. Do you need an afternoon snack? A morning sugar rush? A… uh…anything? They have it. More bars than you can handle, all huge. We tried the salted caramel and the 7 layer bars which were both great. I really wanted to grab the rhubarb crisp bar but we were already in a calorie freefall. There are also pies, cakes and who knows what else. Drinks. Beer. Interesting cocktails. I did not partake but am seriously interested in a few cocktails I saw. Need to try. Food. Breakfast all day with some standard lunch type items as well. Check the photos but the highlights: Ranchero Tostadas w/carnitas: I ate the whole thing and when I was done I kinda realized I inhaled it. Each bite was the perfect bite. The hashbrowns were damn near perfect too. Chicken & waffles. Good fried chicken. Maybe the best waffle I’ve had in recent history. Very simple but just great taste with a great outer crust and inner spongeyness. The service. Tracy, Tracy, Tracy. We loved you. Please be our server everywhere.

If I could I would eat here every day! We were in town and had so many plans that we were only able to eat-in here on morning and was it amazing! We each got a spicy Bloody Mary, which by the way has a meal on a stick that comes with it! Check out the picture I posted. Then we split the Kitchen Sink Omelet and added a side of hash browns and bacon. The serves homemade jam with the toast. Everything was so yummy! We didn’t have time to eat there the next day but I made my husband run over and pick us up cinnamon rolls while I was in the shower. They were perfect for a breakfast on the go– which we were! The day we went for breakfast, as we were leaving, the lunch rush was beginning. The line was almost out the door! This place is seriously well liked based on the business they do;) We will be back for sure!

I’ve had these guys bookmarked since they’ve come to be in the old Peter’s Grill. Lets just say I’m kind of over it. We stopped in Sunday morning shortly after opening for Hen House. Fresh baked items will welcome you into the beautiful location, and we had some very solid service. No issues in that regard. Fresh baked cinnamon roll? Uh duh. They’re big, light and perfectly baked. Didn’t need the butter on top, so we got rid of that, but, the roll was fantastic. The woman ordered up a plate of cinnamon french toast with scrambed eggs(of course with cheese), and bacon. I opted for their name sake dish, fat hen omelet with turkey links, hash browns, and their signature pancakes — cinnamon roll cakes. I was scared to order the omelet, and even voiced this to my better half. When you see a «filler» ingredient such as quinoa, it normally means you’re going to get skimped on everything else. But, I had faith this would be different given how good the cinnamon roll was that they wouldn’t skimp. Everything arrives in a nice timely manner. Rundown… french toast were as basic as it gets, and as we both agreed, nothing special at all. In fact, they were done more on the«rare» side for French Toast where there wasn’t much griddle crust, but, just enough to not be mushy(although the middle still had a faint mush). Not much in the way of flavor either, for being«cinnamon» as opposed to their traditional white french toast. Their scrambled eggs were flat. No fluff at all. Probably on the overcooked side. Bacon was good. Thick, well done and satisfying(although this trend of getting 2 slices per order for how much it costs is getting irritating). My omelet was exactly what I feared. Here’s what should be in there: quinoa, goat cheese, spinach, onions, tomatoes and I added sausage — naturally. I got an omelet loaded to the brim with quinoa, and every other bite had a faint taste of something else. You can see in my pic, it’s literally all quinoa, a little tomato here, a bit of spinach there, no cheese to speak of really. And of course, you’ll notice the lack of anything resembling my sausage link(heeeeeeeeyyyyyooooo). I did get a bite or two of it in there, but, my worst fears came to life, and I hated the dish. Be warned if you order this. Hash had a dash of lawrys which was nice. Toast was the best part of this dish, along with the house jam. Very good stuff there. Pancakes were amazing though. There were the saving grace for making me not pissed about choosing this place over others on my bookmarks. Great sweetness, amazing texture for the cakes, and it soaked up the natural syrup like a champ. All in all, deeply disappointed. Spend $ 50 for breakfast and only a cinnamon roll and pancakes(oh sorry, toast too) jump out at you. There menu is built to where if you want breakfast staples, you’re going to pay for it by adding side orders here, substitution up charges there, and the quantity to cost just doesn’t do me enough. Hate saying it, but, if you’re downtown, skip this place for breakfast. Or come here for baked items and coffee and call it a morning. The only memorable thing about this place, going to the bathroom and seeing«eggs» for the women and«sausage» for the men on the doors. That made us laugh while leaving instead of being thoroughly pissed we just dropped that kind of money for a meal we didn’t care for.

The Hen House is a breakfast jewel for the denizens of Downtown Minneapolis. Sometimes Unilocal really is all you need to eat like a king in an unfamiliar city. I had exactly 1 hour to grab breakfast before requesting Über to take me to MSP to depart for OC and after my hotel experience I was in no mood for chance with what would most likely be the best meal of my day. Rather than hope that the staff at the hotel knew food I trusted in Unilocal and did it ever come through. If you have been to Snooze in Denver or SD, you have basically been to the Hen House. Expertly made breakfasts including morning cocktails are at your beck & call along with the uniquely warm Midwestern service. The menu is classic American but offers surprises such as the White French Toast along with several Mexican morning favorites. Best of all they allow you to create just about any breakfast you can think up, and I went that route and order 2 eggs poached, homemade hash browns and hollandaise sauce as a side. The waitress explained everything would be cooked scratch. Their fresh squeezed Orange Juice is an art form in a milk glass. Being from California that is saying something and I promise you that is tasted like liquid sunshine. The Juice is worth the trip alone. The breakfast itself also did not disappoint. Perfectly poached eggs. Hash browns with the perfect amount of crunch on the outside and a soft and delicate mouth feel within. Splash a bit of the house made hollandaise here and there and you have an incredible start to your day. Truly exquisite.

The Hen House was very nostalgic for me. For anyone who has ever been to The Duluth Grill in Duluth, the Hen House is it’s trendy downtown Minneapolis twin sister. The Hen House has does a great job of appealing to many different markets, those who brunch, those who brunch all day, and 9−5ers in need of a glass of wine and a burger at happy hour. I came to the Hen House for brunch. Their cinnamon roll is on point. It melts in your mouth and is oozing with frosting, but it’s not too sweet. I also tried the breakfast sandwich with multigrain bread, to die for bacon, avocado and an egg. It also came with a side of breakfast sweet potatoes. Great place, good atmosphere, quality food and it’s all reasonably priced!

After accomplishing an early morning at the Cystic Fibrosis IDS tower stair climb in good time, my teammates and I decided to head over to Hen House for breakfast to celebrate. We were pretty early so not jam packed when we arrived. We might have been too early because unfortunately I don’t think they were ready for us. We all ended up ordering the red rooster Bloody Mary which was pretty good and could be breakfast on its own and I decided to keep it simple and ordered their standard egg and hashbrown plate with chorizo as my meat. It took quite a long time to get our drinks which it seemed like the bartender was not expecting to have to make 5 red roosters before 9 am, which is fine but no one decided to say hey just so you know we are working on the drinks like a good server would. breakfast was decent, hash browns were crispy and chorizo had a good kick to it Not something I would say I would have to come back here for. Server did mention they are known for their Mexican breakfast dishes so maybe that will give me the wow factor if I come back. Their desserts looked delish though and I would venture back here to give those a try and I am really hoping I can change my 3 rating to a 4 or 5. Service was lackluster at best and normally I would understand if it was busy but I had a good view of our server and was not sure what she was doing(maybe helping get settings ready for the rest of the day? Who knows)
