Designer Marketplace

I’ve been stopping in to this place occasionally for many years now but hadn’t purchased anything until now. It’s a large/​nice space nearer IMS with a good mix of traditional, contemporary and modern furnishings. I’ve always gotten a slight hustler feeling when shopping here… think Canal Street in NYC. Except here, you’ll find attractive sales staff and less back room/​vans. When Jeff talks, he definitely comes off as knowledgeable
I found a couch that fit my space well, was of a fabric (color/​texture) that I preferred and they said they could get it in fast. So, I purchased it. Starting off at $ 2160, I was given an initial price of $ 1900 but ultimately got it down to $ 1675 plus $ 50 delivery. Upon order completion, I saw the AS IS, ALL SALES ARE FINAL and 1 – 6 week lead time disclaimers (see attached) but was told it would likely be 5 – 7 business days. I then read the online reviews. OUCH! The next week, I was told there was a delay. No biggie. It ultimately took about a month for the delivery and the delivery peeps were great, who also brought some free pillows. While I like the couch, I’ve determined that I hate the three piece modular bc the parts always separate and cushions are at different levels.
Ultimately, I probably wouldn’t purchase another couch here since I found similar (at similar prices) at Room/​Board Outlet but this place isn’t as bad as other reviews would suggest.
Pro: $ 50 delivery, diverse inventory, physically attractive staff
Con: delayed delivery

My husband and I were looking for a new dining room table and chairs and wanted something unique. We found it here, it compliments our house and it’s something we didn’t see while shopping at what seemed like every furniture store within 100 miles! We absolutely love it, got a great deal on a high quality item, and enjoyed working with the young woman who helped us (forgot her name). We are heading there soon to look for a coffee table. I highly recommend them, don’t understand why anyone would say it’s a scam because we had a great experience. Lisa H.

I too got scammed by this store, and it was such a long and difficult process to get our money back that I wanted to push the whole thing from my memory. But I am writing this letter to help others avoid getting caught in the same trap.
My story: we bought a couch and ottoman from Designer Marketplace. We were told by Jeff (the owner) and the saleswoman that it was genuine leather. We paid for the furniture in full and scheduled a delivery.
The couch was delivered, but not the ottoman. I noticed when they brought the couch in that it was very cheap – the stitching was visible, poor construction, and a plastic feel. All tags had been ripped off, so there was no evidence of where the couch came from, or what brand it was. I have a friend who happens to be a furniture maker, and he came over and confirmed the couch was not leather.
I did some research and found the same couch sold at a number of other online stores for over $ 2,000 less than what Jeff is selling it. None of these retailers claim it is leather. Jeff refused to give us a refund (and also would not deliver the ottoman we had paid for).
Lucky for us, we used our credit card to pay for the couch. Capital One has a very helpful fraud protection program, and when they got wind of the scam they immediately refunded our money. It took a while for Jeff to come pick it up, so it sat around in our basement for awhile, but in the end he did come and we got our money back.
I do not recommend shopping at Designer Marketplace. Jeff and his team are truly deceptive and dishonest. If you must shop there, use your Capital One card and have a real furniture expert inspect the pieces you intend to buy. You have been warned!

I recently purchased a very unique accent chair and dining set from Designer Marketplace. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgable AND the variety of furnishings is amazing. I’m very pleased with the quality and affordability of my purchases. I absolutely look forward to visiting the store again. It’s definitely worth checking out.
