I adore this coffee shop. Set in an ideal location of the main lobby of Open Book, this little treasure serves up a nice cup of java and friendliness. I made the Coffee Gallery part of my daily routine while in Minneapolis on business. It was just down the street from the hotel where I was staying so it was easy to access. Every morning I was in, I was served by the same barista, who also had the same name as me. So, names were a topic of conversation. She was extremely nice and hospitable and knew how to make a great espresso drink! What was great about this place is that you can look around Open Book while your drink is being made. It’s a comfortable place to sit and look around. Completely charming!

I’m liking this coffee shop more and more. Since my last review, my visits have featured much friendlier service and better coffee(I usually get a plain old light roast or a tea because I haven’t been impressed by the espresso drinks). Today, the manager(or owner, perhaps) came out and asked me if the Wi-Fi was working alright. It was really nice of him to check, since he said they’d been having some issues with it lately. And the wireless was slightly slow, but not too shabby considering it’s not password protected. Though their food options are pretty standard, I also overheard someone describing a really delicious sounding soup option(African curry pumpkin or something) and smelled it too. Next time I might have to stick around for a bowl. The coffee isn’t going to be the best, but it is a lovely place to get some work done. Parking is still kind of tricky. I mentioned before, you have to say your prayers if you want a chance at a spot in the free parking lot. It’s almost always full, so bring quarters for the meters in case the guy upstairs is smiting you that day.

I’m not too much of a coffee man, but I’ll drink the [redacted] out of some tea. With that on the table, I made my way across the street from my hotel to do a little tickety-tackety, hang out with my co-worker and enjoy the day. As said, I am not much of a coffee drinker so when i got up to the counter to see what other options I had, I got a *slight* side-eye… but, eventually(actually, quickly) received many other choices. To be fair, I understand the side-eye. ‘Hi. I’m at the Coffee Gallery but I don’t want coffee.’ I get it. Side-eye away. I decided upon an iced pomegranate green tea. Reflect on that for a second. I’ll wait. … Done? Cool. Yeah, it was as refreshing as it sounds. It wasn’t naturally very sweet, but the fruit and green tea components really added together to make a winning combination. Even better was the add-your-own simple syrup station. I think I was a traveling station. I don’t know of the health benefits of simple syrup v. sugar, but I felt so classy adding the syrup to my beverage, rather than a couple packets of sugar(whose granules were assured to escape the packaging and my glass to make a mess). Simple syrup. I’m a fan. So, after getting my beverage(in a pint glass; holla) and adding my simple syrup(love), I got to take in the environs. The Coffee Gallery is in the middle of a cool bookstore with high ceilings, wood floors and clean lines. It had a schoolhouse comfort to it that instantly relaxed me. I don’t know that the above sentence makes sense to anyone but me. I apologize. You can take your coffee/tea to drink in the café area, or you can go outside to enjoy life on the street. While the view isn’t much to take in(buildings and cars), drinking coffee/tea outside while wearing sunglasses and tickety-tacketying always raises one’s cool factor up a notch or so, right?

This place is incredible! I just stumbled in here one time after getting in on the megabus literally a block away. My bus got in early, so I thought, yip-ee! Time for exploration! This is not only an awesome coffee shop, it is also connected to the Minneapolis Center for Book Arts! I got to walk around the gift shop a little, and I was even allowed to explore the two stories of studios they have filled with printing presses, deckles and the smell of ink :) sigh* Be sure to check this place out if you’re in the area. It is definitely an experience!: D

I love this coffee shop. The guy in charge is nice and friendly(even saved my keys for me one time, after I misplaced them at the Loft). The service is fast, and it’s a great location for anyone who loves books and wants to be in the same space as others with the same taste.

Really yummy sandwiches and soups. Great vegetarian options. Friendly staff. Seating could use some help(not very cozy).

Good coffee in great atmosphere. It’s nice getting caffeinated in this cozy industrial loft space, and this building has a lot of interesting stuff going on in it. Free wifi. Rock on.

The Coffee Gallery is located just off the main lobby of Open Book(aka Minnesota Center for the Book Arts). I stopped in last week to check out the offerings within the Gift Shop and ended up hanging out a bit at the Coffee Gallery. Although the Open Book space is as handsome and as community welcoming as ever, parking has become harder as the neighbourhood has grown up and the Gift Shop has downsized both in terms of space and offerings. And unfortunately, my annual Stephens wall calendar isn’t ready yet. Nonetheless, the coffee is good here, the atmosphere has a comfortable Minnesota Nice buzz, and the naturally lit space with high ceilings makes it a perfect place to enjoy a conversation and watch the literary world go by. And if you manage to look up from your screen and move beyond the free WiFi, you might actually learn something within this building.

Free WiFi, good coffee, tea and a fantastic chicken satay wrap. Bright sunlight and a vaulted ceiling means a wonderful place to chill with a book or talk with a friend. Check out the great Gift Shop and classes at the Open Book.

Love this place! My friend is planning to move in right next door, so we were out and about scoping out the neighborhood. We came across this great café that is inside the Open Book Center, which has a great little shop and information on art classes. The chicken satay wrap was awesome and they have a nice selection of coffees, teas and cold drinks. This is a great place to grab a snack and hang out with a good book.
