The owner is very hands-​on and engaged with the customers. He was very friendly and helped me find exactly what I needed. It was busy and he was juggling a few of us, but I really appreciate the personal customer service. Great selection of clothing also. Above all, it was the great customer service that will bring me back again.

Owner helped me with my shopping, very nice and offered me coffee from the shop next door while I waiting for a dressing room. Great selection of unique pieces and sized for a range of body shapes. Lots of pieces made in the U.S., can’t wait to wear my new jumper!

Supreme is one of the best spots to hit up, I make it a must go to when I go to CA. Great clothes and accessories. Friendly staff… I will definitely stop by again & again.

Cliché is one of my favorite places to shop in Minneapolis! The selection is always amazing; on trend, great quality and affordable. Josh the owner and all of the employees are so kind and helpful. I always enjoy my shopping visits at Cliché and would highly recommend this store!

I have shopping but every time i wander into cliché i find a must-​have accessory. the vibe is mellow, no pressure from the staff at all.

Excellently curated, supports local merchants and other small businesses around the country. The owner is friendly, the music is always great, the sales racks are super reasonable, and the seasonal rotation is spot on.

Every Christmas, I buy my daughter-​in-​law a gift card from Cliché, her favorite store. She buys the cutest outfits there! If I were younger, I’d hope there, too.

Last week I stopped into Cliché for the first time for some much needed non-​back-​to-​school shopping. This is a great boutique for women looking for on-​trend pieces of clothing, quality shoes and jewelry, and outstanding customer service.
It was only a matter a minutes before the welcoming shopkeeper, Josh, took me under his wing, of course noticing I was a Cliché newbie, and helped me shop the day away. It was extremely helpful to have someone help me navigate the store and drum up outfit ideas. His knowledge of fit, fashion, and personal style is impressive. I ended up walking away with two pieces I love. Success! Thanks be to Josh!
Cliché stocks an impressive selection of clothing and jewelry, for a relatively small boutique, that will make you swoon. The merchandise changes often, so it’s best to stop in frequently just to browse or snag something before it’s gone forever.

I am a recent convert and am loving this store. After showing me a few things, Josh pretty immediately picked up on my style (not solely hipster as another reviewer suggested) and made great suggestions, including things I never would have picked out for myself. I love their jeans but wear a larger size in certain washes then they stock so he went out of his way to do some online searching for me and order in ones he thought I would like to try on (and called me to discuss different colors and options). I was worried coming in that it was just a shop for thin girls, but found a range of sizes (I am a 12 – 16 bottom and a L top). Moreover, I found it to be one of the more body positive shops I have been in – while other places have designs that flatter one body type, I was shown a variety of styles that flattered mine but also found very little sales pressure (to the extent Josh called me abut a pair of jeans and then called me back, said he had looked them up and didn’t think I would like the color instead of trying to sell me on them). I was also pleasantly surprised at the prices, especially for the quality of the clothing and the service you get there. I have been telling everyone I know about this shop and believe it is the best place to buy clothes in the Twin Cities.

Most of the time, this merchandise is a bit out of my pricerange, but if I have a little money saved up and want to get myself something pretty, this is the first place I go! Friendly and very helpful staff, amaizing selection of unusual, beautiful, artistic, and haute couture pieces!

So, what do you do when an airport escalator eats your dress just minutes before you board a flight to MSP? Well, you change into your only other outfit (save pajamas) you packed for your one day trip and once you arrive in MSP you make sure to hit up Cliché.
Yep, Annie D took me to Cliché for some good old fashioned credit card melting. This shop is just precious. It’s nicely stocked with a myriad of trendy duds — dresses, tops, skirts, some pants, local jewelry, footwear and more. You won’t find a ton of each item — perhaps 3 – 5 of each, which keeps exclusivity up but can be sad if you miss out.
Prices were moderate and affordable across the board — with clothing $ 30-​$ 150 for the most part and jewelry $ 15-​$ 100. I was especially impressed by the friendly staff and local goods! Thanks, Cliché, for saving me from heading to the airport in my pjs.

I’m a lucky lady for how close this place is to my apartment. I ventured here for the first time this weekend after recently moving to the neighborhood. I was not expecting to be as pleased as I was.
Beautiful boutique, spacious layout that makes for easy shopping, comfortable atmosphere, non-​judgmental and extremely helpful owner. (Boutiques usually intimidate me a little because I typically don’t feel stylish enough for them, heh.) I will be frequenting this place probably too often. I recommend!

Cliché has been on my list of to-​visit stores for a while now, and I finally stopped in last week. I wasn’t very impressed, but I can cross it off the list. The sole staff member was friendly and available to help, and the store was easy to navigate. However, the clothing didn’t strike me as particularly innovative or cute, either in design or quality. There were pieces from local designers as well as brands that Len Druskin carries. Many things were made of polyester and looked like they would only retain relevance for a season. Prices varied, leaning toward the spendy side, and I didn’t see anything I wanted to try on. Maybe I came on a bad day? On the flip side, Cliché does sell cool jewelry. Maybe when I have more money…

There’s a reason why Cliché has been voted Best Minneapolis Boutique time and time again; they have something for almost anyone. So many boutiques offer only a narrow range of styles and prices. Instead, Cliché prices range from $ 34 cotton pencil skirts to $ 160 denim; $ 24 earrings to $ 80 cotton crop shirts. You can easily walk out of Cliché spending $ 160 on 2 pieces, and you can just as easily walk out having spent $ 60 on 3 pieces.
Graphic tee’s with edgy cuts aren’t my jam, but big slouchy sweaters certainly are. Not big into vibrant brightly colored jeans, but I’m always thrilled to find a pair of high-​waisted black jeans that fit like a glove and are cut to perfection. Long ankle length dresses don’t really fit my style, but collared 1950’s inspired casual dresses do.
The Jewelery selection varies in style and price just as much as the clothing. Cocoquette Jewelery sways towards the more colorful earthy bead-​work, while Larissa Loden’s pieces make use of vintage metal materials.
The owners and staff will make it a point to get to know you and to quickly make note of your personal style so that they can quickly pick out pieces that will appeal to you. This is both great and very very dangerous; they almost do their job too well.
Lastly, don’t miss their sales, most notably the well known July 4^th sale, where they feature $ 5 and $ 10 sales racks packed with great finds! Aside from that, they typically have plenty of sales items on the floor, and many other big season change sales too!
Oh, and rumor has it shoes are going to be moving into Cliché’s inventory come Spring 2013. Oh boy.

I need to leave the non-​profit sector so I can keep stores like this in business. Because, rest assured, if I regularly had $ 150 to spend on a single outfit, (as Aldo Raine would say) business would be a’boomin’.
They have super cute dresses and shirts and skirts, with interesting fabrics and styles all in the same kind of upper-​crust-​indie-​hipster genre. They have the kinds of dresses you want to wear with a big, floppy hat while taking in the scene in the sculpture garden and reading F. Scott Fitzgerald. «Please, admire my youth. It is verdant and in its prime. I’ll pretend like I can’t see you.»
Everything looks to be local and handmade, and with that comes a certain amount of weirdness– like, that size 2 is seriously gigantic in a couple of wrong places.
Unique selection, local business, all the right elements… except every time I flip over a price tag my little bird heart nearly stops. Can’t be having that on the regular.

Being a female, sometimes I like to feel pretty. Lately I’ve been feeling anything but (I blame the winter) so I decided I needed to get a pretty dress.
I had never been in Cliché, but I saw great reviews on Unilocal.I try to buy locally when I can, and since it is very near to me, I decided to check it out.
When I first walked in I was immediately greeted by a man (who I think is one of the owners). He was helpful the entire time, starting me a fitting room, complimenting my final purchase, and being understanding when I realized I had left my cash card at home and had to go get it.
At first glance, nothing looked appealing to me, but after a bit of browsing, I started to find a few dresses that seemed like they *could* look good being worn. I didn’t have high hopes though.
However, out of the five dresses I tried on, four of them looked about 100x better on me than I had ever expected. The prices for most of them were very moderate, although the one I ended up picking was a bit pricey (at least for me).
I’m very pleased with my purchase and the service I received. I’m happy to have given my money to such a well-​run local business, and I will be back.

I wish I could get paid for every time I entered this store, because then maybe I could actually buy something.
I like a lot of the things in this store and a lot of things about the store; they support local designers, they change things in their store frequently, and like Annie D said, it’s highly unlikely to see another girl wearing the same dress from Cliché. The one thing I do not like about this store (this is a big one thing) is that I cannot justify paying over $ 40 for a shirt or any single clothing item for that matter (okay, well maybe a dress but I have yet to find one). I’m super thrifty in the sense that I am cheap. Sorry.
Someday Cliché, when I have a big girl job, I will buy something from you. Someday…

Maybe I had too high of expectations after reading so many glowing reviews of Cliché, as well as seeing it constantly winning various Twin Cities Best Of types of awards. From what I can tell, it’s well loved because they stock local designers. And while there is certainly pride to be had in doing so, it would kind of help if the designs were, well, appealing, I guess.
That was my biggest problem at Cliché; zero appeal. None. I couldn’t find anything that I liked even in the slightest. Usually, in a boutique, I’ll find a range from super casual to kind of dressy-​ish, or from laid-​back to formal enough to get by. No, this was just hipster, hipster, and more hipster. There is one audience for Cliché, and everyone else is left in the cold.
I can’t say that I got much of a response out of anyone working there either, but then again, I don’t look like I should be shopping there so I guess it makes sense. Not that it should be that way.

I used to live a block away from Cliché and frequently dropped in after work. The selection is usually quite good (mix of local and national brands with new pieces coming in all the time), the prices are reasonable, and the shopkeeper (Josh, I think? He and his wife own the store.) is very helpful. More than a few times, he’s suggested items I would have never picked up on my own but ended up loving.
Beyond clothing, they have a well-​edited and rotating selection of local jewelry and accessories, and always sale rack in the back. I consider the inventory at Cliché to be kinda eclectic and while that isn’t really my style (I’m more of a boring J. Crew girl), each time I stop In I find a fun piece to add to my predominately neutral and very predictable wardrobe.
The items by local designers can be pricey, but I completely understand why… they’re handmade, unique, and sometimes one-​of-​a-​kind. However, I’ve been hesitant to invest in those pieces because of fit issues or concern about how they would hold up over time. I just can’t spend $ 250+ on a garment that doesn’t fit absolutely perfectly or that I’m afraid won’t last more than a few years… so I’ve yet to take the plunge.
When we moved to the Wedge, I was pumped that there was a locally owned clothing boutique in our ‘hood, but afraid that they wouldn’t be able to last in this rough economy. I’ve been so pleasantly surprised to see them stand the test of time. I think that says a lot about the business and the neighborhood that supports it. Yeah, Cliché!

Before I begin, I will confess that I spend far too much in this store, considering that I am one of those one-​size-​too-​big-​fer-​her-​pricey-​jeans kind of nigh-​middle age laydays who make even the best designed dress look like a soviet-​era flight attendant’s uniform. Never mind the first vibe, that this is a store for teenyboppers with an edge. There’s a greater variety of styles and fits than are initially visible.
Recommend: try on anything they give you. There will be surprises.
Recommend: pay no attention to size
Recommend: bypassing the drop-​waisted dance-​school babydoll clothing because it’s too pricey to use in playing out your daddy fantasy.
Do not recommend: looking at the jewelry case.

Before I begin, I need to admit that I’ve never spent a dime in this store. Not for lack of trying… that’s for sure.
I’ve pined for a few things over the years, but have remained a professional Cliché window-​shopper. I’m that a girl that comes in and tries everything on, finds a gorgeous locally designed dress or two… and then pussy-​foots around until she talks herself out of it because she doesn’t «need» it. And then she returns the next day and that dress is gone. Sad face.
The merch is always changing, because they only keep a small stock in the boutique. That can be challenging for size reasons because once a size is gone — it’s usually gone. It does, however, make what you take home that more one-​of-​a-​kind. You probably won’t see another girl on the street wearing your outfit, but you have to actually make the purchase to make it your own outfit (the lesson I am learning).
You’ll find skirts, dresses, jewelry and lots more from some mid– upscale designers — including a bunch of local designers’ schtuff. Love that!
Update Feb. 2012: I BOUGHT SOMETHING. A leather cuff. It’s awesome.

Okay, fine. I’ll admit it! I love to shop! And it’s really fun to shop at Cliché. This boutique has a wide variety of clothing, from local labels to mainstream US to labels from Japan and Spain – you never know what you’ll find here!
I usually traipse into Cliché on a random Monday and try on half the store. Joshua is very helpful – he succeeds in persuading me to try on many items that I would never have considered. I usually end up purchasing something that he picked out for me (that I thought would have looked hideous).
I buy most of my clothing here. The prices are right, people! Why spend the same amount of $ or more at department stores or at Express? Support local business and local designers! And look super cute while doing it ;-)
