I have been looking for a good place to get my hair done for over a year and I think I finally found my spot! I had a great experience overall.
I called in on a Wednesday evening and was aw to get an appointment the next day. They are in a great location if you live or work downtown.
The woman who cut my hair was named Maraela. She was really knowledgeable about all of the products and gave me great advice with products. She cut and styled my hair at the same time which I hadn’t ever had done before. I love the way it all turned out!
The price was totally reasonable and was actually less than I expected! Great salon, great quality and great experience!

My experience at this salon was good for a last minute service. The pricing is a bit high for the waxing but comparable to other salons downtown for all other services.
My color service was really nice and has lasted a long time. I appreciate salons that use Redken color products. My hair cut wasn’t exactly what I was looking for but presentable so all is well. I’d recommend if you need something downtown.

I will definitely be going back to see Katrina again!
I went in there looking like a vagabond; I hadn’t had a haircut in four months, had taken an eyebrow beating from an Asian salon 6 weeks earlier, and wasn’t wearing any makeup because my allergies have been bad (and needed to apply lotion to my face throughout the day). But I left looking about 100x better then when I walked in!
Brows and Makeup
Katrina did a great job not over doing it on the eyebrows, showed me some of the great mineral makeup that they have and applied it to see how it looked.
Hair
After a scalp massage during the shampoo and a rock star shoulder massage while in the chair, Katrina asking some great questions about how I like to style my hair, what colic’s I have, what products I use. Like others have said in the reviews, she is a great listener!
She then did her magic; layered my hair and cut my sweeping bangs into a style that I could do at home that was light weight and exactly what I had described while also doing a great job of showing me all of the products that she was using and explaining what they all were intended for so that I actually knew how to use them.
And Dessert?
Oh yeah, and she bakes. She is putting together a gluten free dessert cookbook today she had mock «soft and chewy» cookies. Can’t complain about that! It was super tasty!
I have them calling me back in 6 weeks as reminder for a new cut!

I went to City Hairstylists after i read all the reviews, because getting a haircut esp when you have short hair, well you better be sure where you are going! I always have a haircut in a Trial and Error fashion as I like to wear my hair really short, and most of the time the response I get from a hairstylist after looking at my hair is — Well maybe you should come back when you have your hair longer (it is shorter than the one in my profile).
Well first of all getting to City hairstylists was not so easy coz it is marked 527 Marquette Place, and you are looking at your IPhone and it tells you have arrived when you are standing in front of 510 Marquette! Anyway I went up the floor, and managed to find it, and I will again if i take the same door!
I had an appointment with Lindsey, and she is the sweetest! The first thing she said when she looked at my hair was — You got lovely hair! Not expecting that at All, I was taken aback. She suggested I keep the style as it was short already, and she cut it real neat.
Thank God she didnt ask me to come back when my hair was longer! Well, most importantly my husband really likes my haircut, so I will be going back again maybe to try other services.

I have decided that this is one of the worst haircuts of my life. The layers don’t lay nice at all, and there are random pieces of hair that stand out because they’re longer than they should be. The bottom layer was left so thin that it looks like I need a haircut despite just getting one. In fact, all of my hair looks and feels ridiculously thin now. Believe me, hair thickness was not an issue going in! Plus, the overall shape of the back is awful. The bottom layer goes straight across, while the sides of the very top layer stick out so you get a weird step effect. Top layer, longest layer, top layer. Whenever I see or feel my hair, I become furious.
I didn’t even receive the neck/​shoulder massage that supposedly comes with a haircut.
The location convenience does not make up for the time I have to spend growing this cut out before my WEDDING.

I came here in June 2010 for a «special» facial a couple of days before my wedding. I live in downtown and thought this might be a convenient and good place for a facial. but i was totally wrong. The facial was very light and not one bit special. There wasn’t much massage whatsoever. The big part of the facial was steam and more steam and more more more steam. The lady who did my facial was okay but the overall experience neither left me or my skin happy and glowing. I had a blackhead on my face (near bridge of nose) that I wanted to get removed and I told the lady to do so. She put all her life into taking this tiny blackhead out as a result of which I had an ugly dark bump near my nose on my wedding day. She should have known better — she is a professional!!!
Also, this place is tight with space, which is understandable coz they are in downtown. but so tiny!!!
Facial here was a total waste of $ 100! I am never going back there. I don’t know how this place has these good reviews. Ladies, there are better places around town… don’t waste your buck here!

I was in Minneapolis in August for a family event. I needed to look good for 3 days of meeting extended relatives of my in-​laws and was badly in need of a haircut. I came across City Hairstylists as it was near our hotel and was able to get an appointment with Lindsay. She did a great job with my very thick, unruly hair and even cut my layers using a technique I specified to bring out the curl in my hair. Lindsay did a great job and spent a significant amount of time drying and styling my hair. (Did I mention it was thick? «thickest hair ever seen on a white girl» as my Seattle hairdresser says.) The best part is that my hair stayed frizz free in high humidity and looked great the whole time I was there. Thanks Lindsay for the extra special attention you gave my locks! I’d move you to Seattle if I could.

I agree with Kelly B. I, too, would only navigate downtown traffic, parking ramps and skyways for Katrina and the rest of the folks at City Hairstylists. Katrina is an artist and I always feel so great after she cuts my hair. I’m also constantly impressed with Annie’s amazing customer service at the front desk. Another highlight for me is the online booking system. I can book my appointment online at 3am if that’s when it occurs to me that I need a haircut! I love that flexibility.

Katrina, Katrina, Katrina. How you have changed my annoyance with my curly/​wavy/​goofy hair to one of acceptance and like, even. Thank you!
City Hairstylists is a fab place. Friendly front desk, excellent stylists, great products. The only downside is you need to do a little research about parking before you head downtown. I parked in an underground lot on Marquette and paid $ 13 for 45 minutes. Ouch. There is an above ground lot just a block east, which I’m sure is a bit cheaper.
I’m a fan!

I woud only brave the downtown skyway system for Katrina, a new addition to City Hairstylists. I followed her from her previous place, where I have been seeing her for about a year and a half. For the first time *ever* I found someone that I will be 100% loyal to. I started with just cuts and eventually let her color my hair too. Previous to Katrina, I had never thought professional coloring was worth the price. She has changed me from the outside in, and I can never go back.
This is what makes her fabulous: SHE LISTENS-​She does a thorough consultation about your relationship with your hair, your complaints, your hopes, what you’re willing to invest in your hair maintenance. SHE’S A VISIONARY: After listening, she will share her vision, get your feedback, then get to work. SHE’S INTUITIVE: When it come to both cut and color, she works with how your «hair lives» and not against it. The result is nearly effortless, pretty, flirty hair that grows out beautifully. SHE BAKES: I’m not kidding, every time I see her there is some kind of snackery involved. Sometimes it’s simply fresh fruit, but most often it is her delicious home baked goods, most recently there was rhubarb cake. SHE’S GOT MAGIC HANDS: And she knows how to use them on your scalp, shoulders, and neck. SHE’S DYNAMIC: And it’s contagious.
Lastly, the salon itself is such an upgrade from her previous hair home. It’s small but tidy and uncluttered. Reception has all been so friendly, helping with directions, etc. Good people doing great work.

Awesome place to go for haircut if you’re a Skyway rat like me! I called during lunch and they got me in when I got off of work that day. They also gave me super detailed directions to get there, which is oh-​so-​necessary in the skyways.
It’s an Aveda salon, so it was a tad on the pricey side (haircuts are listed as $ 40-​$ 60 on the website, and mine was $ 40). But it lacks the pretentiousness of Juut, and all the women working there were super friendly and down-​to-​earth. Most places, I usually end up feeling ashamed for how I do my hair, how long I’ve waited since my last cut, etc. but I didn’t feel that at all here. It was really non-​judgmental, no pressure, relaxing atmosphere, though they’re a bit cramped in the space they have. Which is understandable — It’s a full service salon in a skyway sized space!
I have never gone back to the same stylist twice in my life, and I immediately made a follow-​up appointment with Lindsey. She listened to exactly what I was saying, gave me some guidance (which I needed) and throughout the haircut tried to teach me different ways to style my hair (I’m a little hopeless), including cheaper alternatives to expensive equipment. She also did my eyebrow wax and it was one of the least painful ones I’ve had. A few days later, I got a thank you note and a $ 5 gift certificate for next time I go back! Not sure why, but it was a nice perk. :)
