Center of Light

Such a grounded and refreshing place. I’m so grateful to have found The Center of Light – it’s a down-​to-​earth spiritual center with daily meditation and spiritual growth. Daily! How cool is that?! When I first started showing up I was so surprised that I could actually be there every morning for meditation. There are also basic classes on meditation and movie nights for no cost/​donation. Then, there’s the cool group of people who really care about deepening in a practice of love, devotion and connection with God. This is a diamond in the rough of life!

I went here the other night to see the movie, «Vanishing of the Bees». There was plenty of street parking available in the area. Upon entering the building, I saw that there was a rack with others’ shoes on it and began removing my own. A woman greeted us warmly and confirmed that removing our footwear was appreciated and she offered to take our coats to hang them in a closet. A moment or two later, another woman greeted us and invited us to help ourselves to the food brought in by others and to explain where the 3 or 4 bathrooms were. They showed the film in a room just inside the door where we entered the building. Padded chairs, some with throw pillows perched on them and some with a blanket draped over the back, were lined up in rows and a few people were sitting in there. The movie was shown on their wall. After the film was shown, many chairs were moved around the perimeter of the room and a loose discussion ensued. Donations were suggested and encouraged and would be given to the makers of the movie.
I had the feeling that we were «outsiders» to this group, however, I did not feel «unwelcomed». My friend considered it a «cult». While I don’t see myself returning to this place with any regularity, I might return another time for their «Conscious Movie Night». It all depends on the topic.
