Just wow. This spa is getting 5 stars. Their specialists are amazing and would pick the right routine for you. I decided to get microderm and couple other procedures which were included in the groupon deal. After checking my skin conditions the routine was changed to help my skin. And the magic happened. Since I have moved to the USA my skin could not adjust to water, food or who knows what and kept giving me a lot of issues. Star Spa cosmetologist helped to resolve all of it just after one visit. She recommended to buy a special moisturizer and since then my skin became perfect. Great service, location and treatment. Highly recommended.

I e been going to Star Spa since the Fall of 2014. My appointments have all been handled in a timely manner. Everyone has been courteous to me and I’ve had several Dermapen treatments, Microdermabrasions and the Ultherapy. My skin has improved greatly! I can go out without foundation for the first time in my 50+ years.
I have recommended to friends and will continue to do so. No complaints here!

My experience with Star Spa was for the photofacial, and i loved it. It really removed the ‘winter grey’ from my face.
it is a very casual atmosphere. park free in back, come in and remove your shoes. the place has a very clean, almost sterile look. for some reason my brief facial was felt so fabulous i could barely tear myself from the cushioned table!
i don’t get all the negative reviews, but then, i only had the short photofacial. it is true that they never, ever answer the phone or return calls. That, plus the receptionist ignoring my presence, earns the place four stars from me inside of five.

I had six appointments at Calhoun Natural Medicine and Esthetics and they were 100% unproductive. Waste of time and money!

Just wanted to start with that since all the bad reviews for this establishment are Groupon users.
I also do not go here for laser hair removal — reviews seem to be skewed towards that service.
However, I DO visit Calhoun Natural Medicine for skin care. Specifically to see MALLORY because she is a MIRACLE WORKER.
Chemical peels, photofacials and dermapen have drastically improved my skin condition/​texture.

I’ve been here for a photofacial and the treatment itself is great! However the biggest problem with this place is that they NEVER answer the phone. I have called many, many times to either ask a question or book am appointment. They have online booking but it requires a credit card number and since I’m a Groupon customer, I prefer not to do so. I once left 2 voicemails on a Friday and finally got a call back on the following Monday. Mind you they are open Saturday and Sunday as well.
If you’re looking for prompt and courteous customer service, look elsewhere.

Not happy again, my apt was at 4:00 they didn’t come and get me until 4:35 again. The service was not a good one. They left the blinds up in a room made of windows and looking down on lake and excelsior. Her reason «they can’t see in» here’s the fact I know they can. I have drove by at night and you can see in. The esthetician was not very experienced it seemed. Leah also had a strong body Oder. Not relaxing… Stay away from this place spend the money and have people who are professionals do it

I give 2 stars bc of the one receptionist I encounter at every visit. She makes an effort to make me feel valued and welcomed.
2 aestheticians I have had to work with are rude and judge mental. They made me feel dumb for asking questions and kept deflecting the answer when I questioned why they did something that felt wrong. One was fired, thank god. She kept making inappropriate comments and acted elitest. The other… well, karma will take care of her eventually. I am with a 3^rd employee who was more pleasant but a ditz… she chatted with another customer while I waited for her 20minutes past my appt start time. She was all «I didn’t know you were my 11». She was the one who checked me in… so yea, idiot.
I do not recommend this clinic. I tried it bc of a groupon and would rather pay full price at my last clinic than ever return here.
I got burnt during my first session which I realize is a risk of laser hair removal but don’t promise to reduce the scarring with free dermabrasion treatments and avoid the procedure by cutting me off and running out of the room. No one at this place cares about fixing or making reparations for the mistakes they or their coworkers made/​make.
This place needs an attitude adjustment and a dose of reality. Good luck staying afloat. The point of utilizing a discounted voucher program is to attract new clients, not to create bad experiences followed by a slew of bad online reviews. I blame management — the owners need to hire a better shop keeper or close up.

My first experience at Calhoun Natural Medicine and Esthetics was very positive. I had Laser hair removal by Jodi. She was new and extremely knowledgeable and professional. Answered every question I had, and her follow up after the procedure showed care after the service. Thank you for a great experience. I will be back and refer clients to your business.

Misleading Groupon offer («leg area» somehow translates to either the front or back side of either the upper or lower leg) and generally rude experience.
My entire session was under 5 minutes and when I asked about the laser strength seeming too low compared to my previous experience with hair removal at other establishments, I was told that the setting was the standard one the technician knew to use. When I asked whether the same setting was used for everyone, I was bluntly told «No.»
Just «No.»
No other explanation…
…which is strange because I was also not asked any questions about my skin type, sun exposure, medication use, etc. NOTHING. There was no evaluation of my skin before setting me to some bozo «standard» setting on the wand which was quickly and breezily waved over my skin before I was curtly shown the door.
Wish I had not purchased the Groupon. Don’t make the same mistake.

Horrific experience. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE GROUPONS OR TREATMENTS FROM CALHOUN NATURAL MEDICINE. I had a horrific experience getting laser hair removal for my underarms. I saw some initial results after my second treatment, but then all the hair grew back. I got 5 treatments out of 6 and was so frustrated because I saw absolutely no change. When I called, the receptionist and aesthetician blamed my lack of results on the fact that I did get a sixth treatment. I’ve had successful laser hair removal before and I saw successive results after each treatment. She said they did not offer any refunds and instead recommended that I purchase an entirely new package. She said I had to «start over again.» I called the place I used to go to in San Francisco and they said that Calhoun Natural Medicine sounded hazardous to customers. On another note, I completely agree with the other Unilocal reviewers’ characterization of this place and also I have extremely similar experiences with respect to the other aspects of the business.

I would give 0 stars if possible. This place is a joke
I had an morning appointment scheduled and received an email at 10pm the night prior that my appointment was cancelled due to the laser being down. I was able to reschedule for the following week and received a phone call the day before that they were unable to keep my appointment. I then called to reschedule for the 3^rd time and they were unable to get me in until two months later.
Wouldn’t your first priority be to get a customer in as soon as possible instead of scheduling me down at the bottom of your waitlist? Never again

I am just getting around to writing this review but it is still valid. I am extremely disappointed with the services I received here. I should have known better but I am pretty easy going and usually things do not bother me. But I really don’t handle «rude» very well and this Haley person (I think) was extremely rude to me and abrupt. The laser treatment was really fast too. Not to mention, the room was very messy. That’s one thing about a spa… it cannot be messy!!! Gross. I guess I won’t be coming back.

Negative 500 stars if I could. At the beginning they were great until they started canceling my appointments. 3 of 4 of my appointments I got a call only a couple hours before I am due in to let me know that the machines are broken AGAIN and I need to re-​schedule. For laser hair removal you are supposed to go every 5 weeks for the most effective treatment. After the third time Tony called me to cancel my appointment I asked for a refund. I think it is fair if they are unable to get me in and also I question the quality and effectiveness of my treatments if their machines are always broken. Tony said that Ilene would have to get in touch with me and told me she will have Ilene contact me. For the last month I have left numerous messages and even spoke to someone again asking for a refund. Still no call back. Completely unprofessional and I have recently contacted the BBB. Avoid this place at all cost.

I, too, got suckered in by the Groupon deal. I wish Groupon had a better system for filtering out businesses that are greedy, shady, and otherwise ill-​prepared for the inevitable traffic that comes knocking as a result of a really great deal.
Legit esthetic and natural medicine offices would actually have someone answering the phone. They would be able to deal with over-​booked schedules, and appointment re-​booking when THEY cancel them. Calhoun Natural Medicine does NOT possess these qualities. Fillers and Botox can’t cover the cracks in a poorly-​run business.
Stay away.

Like most others, I bought the Groupon for the $ 200 for six sessions of laser hair removal. I’d never heard of this place prior to the Groupon. I see they run specials somewhat frequently. They are right down the street from my place, and I thought $ 200 was a small price to pay to say «Goodbye, Gillette.» I chose to do my lower legs, and told everyone left and right how stoked I was.
I’ve had 4 of 6 visits so far, and they schedule them every 6 – 8 weeks. I had trouble with their laser machine going down on my first couple visits. I’ve had a different esthetician for each of my four treatments — each time the person told me that they’d be doing my next session, but that didn’t happen. There was constuction to expand the office during a couple of my visits, possibly due to all the Groupons being sold, and reading between the lines, a change in management or ownership. They have you take your shoes off when you get in the door. They have slippers there for you to wear. The lobby area is all done in a very sterile looking white tile. There is a storage/​office area right off the lobby, in high contrast to the neatly lined up bottles and supplements on the shelf — messy stacks of papers and mass disorganization. They could simply close that door… Parking is ample in front or side of the building.
I don’t remember names. One of the persons I had was extremely brusque, borderline combative, and she claimed to be the manager. I gave up on small talk with her because she was so abrasive. My most recent visit was with a new person — I hope I have her again because she was warm, approachable, explained what was happened. I found out, to my disappointment, that the laser hair removal is NOT permanent, but will last 1 – 2 years, depending on the person.
I read up on what to expect prior to my visit. Apparently I am the ideal candidate for removal. I scheduled my appointments in the evening over the phone, and I’d shave right before I went in.
They smear you up with ultrasound jelly and wave a wand over your legs. You have to wear goggles during the procedure. I had red bumps at the follicle on my legs, which was fine in the winter since I’d be wearing pants anyway. Well, the first 2 sessions were fine. Slight sensitivity, especially on the backs of my legs near my knees, but no problem. The 3^rd and 4^th sessions they turned up the strength on the beam. I’ll be honest, it was more than the rubber band snap they compare it to. It HURT! I’d clench my fists and bite the area of my hand between my finger and thumb, it hurt so bad. All I could think was that I was suffering in the name of beauty and that it’d all be worth it. Until I found out it was not permanent! Oh well.
After the first session, I saw immediate results. Patchy re-​growth, I didn’t shave for a while so I could see how it came out. After the second and even third session, it seemed to be exacerbating the hair growth — seemed thicker and faster than it ever has before. I guess that’s normal. After the 4^th session, I can definitely tell that I’m shaving far less than I used to. I’d consider bikini line except that the more recent sessions hurt so badly that I don’t want to since it’s not permanent.
I think the estheticians personalities are really hit or miss. I hope I get the same person I had on my most recent visit for my last two. I’d recommend them if you understand it isn’t permanent, and can get a good deal. They tried to upsell me to adding on another area for $ 100, but I told them I’d see how my initial sessions go before signing on to another. I’ll skip it.

I’ve been to Calhoun Natural Medicine and Aesthetics twice now and have had extremely great experiences both times, it’s honestly hard to for me to believe what these other reviewers are saying! Both times I was greated by a friendly receptionist and had minimal wait time for my service. The newly remodeled space is clean and fresh looking with great views of the city– I love coming here!
My most recent visit was for a photofacial with Haley F to improve my skin tone. I was quite nervous about having this treatment because I had it done at a different spa last year and had very painful experience! This time with Haley, she took the extra time to talk me through the procedure and calm my nerves and assured me that it would only cause mild discomfort at the most. I was pleasantly surprised when she started and I had no pain whatsoever– just like she said– only minimal discomfort! I also saw immediate impovement in the look of my skin! I will definately be scheduling a couple more of these treatments and would highly recommend this place to anyone!

DO NOT GO HERE. This is the most poorly run, unprofessional place I’ve ever been. The first time I went here, the person who was giving me my laser treatment kept saying «Oh, I hope I’m doing this right, I’ve only done it a few times». Then she forgot about me half way through a laser treatment and just left me laying on the table! They apologized, and asked me to come in two days later for a re-​do. I came in two days later, checked in with a receptionist, and waited, and waited… no one came to get me. THIS IS THE BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME. Pretty sure the girl performing my first treatment was the receptionist, and she was covering for someone who didn’t show up. That’s just my guess. Either way, take it from me, there’s a reason why this place runs so many groupons. They can’t keep business.

I also had the laser hair removal Groupon. I concur with other Unilocalers that there is a lack or courtesy and professionalism. I completed 5 of my 6 treatments but was rescheduled 2 – 3 times through the process. Their excuse was the «laser went down». The final time, I received a call that the laser was down and they were expecting a second laser in the next week, so there would be a lot more availability. The receptionist told me she would call when the laser was in. Never received a call. Called them… no answer after 2 attempts. Not absolutely determined to get my 6^th treatment… it’s not really working anyway!
I’d recommend going elsewhere.

Avoid these clowns! They’ve prompted me to request my first-​ever Groupon refund, and I’ve used Groupon a lot-​pretty much since it came out.
This place is rude and disorganized. I finally was able to schedule an appointment (with over a month’s notice) for last Suday at 10:00 am. It turns out that the person who was to perform my service was sick, but nobody called or emailed me. I even tried calling the day of the appointment to confirm — just in case, as everybody around here has had the flu, etc, and I had a funny feeling about the appointment falling through. No answer. Left repeated voice mails. Decided they werent open, made a u-​turn, and drove all the way back home. Got a call back as I got into my driveway (at 10:30!) that yes, in fact they were canceling my 10:00 appointment and rescheduling. Rescheduled for next Sunday, which is today. I didn’t receive their standard confirmation call or email, so I started leaving voicemails yesterday afternoon to confirm my appointment. I finally got a call back today around 11:00 today that went to my voice mail stating that I can call them back and they’ll discuss my appointment with me. Dang! Why couldn’t they just tell me what was going on rather than requiring me to keep playing voice mail tag!!! So once again I called them back, had to leave yet another voice mail since they have NEVER ONCE answered their phone in the many times I’ve called, and I left a frustrated message. At this point I had become very annoyed. Later, around noon, I got a call back from the completely unapologetic technician. My appointment had been scheduled for NEXT week at 11:00, much to my surprise, for the entirely wrong service. She acted like the whole mess was my fault and that I was inconveniencing her. They had scheduled a ‘derma pen,’ whatever that is. In fact, she argued that I had scheduled the derma pen appointment! Since it was mis-​scheduled, it had to be changed yet again by her request to next week at noon.
A few minutes later, as I was on the phone rescheduling something else that conflicted with this third attempt at an appointment with these clowns, the same technician called back to say that she relistened to my voicemail, thought I was rude, and she «didn’t like my tone» in my voicemail. Never mind that we had just had a fairly normal phone conversation, mind you. I laughed, because this business has wasted about three hours of my valuable holiday time so far with drive time (they’re over 15 miles away) and the required prep for the appointment that hasn’t been needed twice so far. Yet somehow I have no right to be frustrated with their lack of respect for my time, their inability to schedule a simple appointment correctly, or for their complete inability to answer their phone, return calls promptly, or to apologize for their repeated mistakes. She said that due to my tone in the voicemail that she was refusing to see me. Ha!
Well, all i have to say is «Good!!»
Personally, I don’t feel at all comfortable letting someone with such poor organizational or customer service skills or an apparent lack of emotional maturity aim a powerful and potentially dangerous laser at my skin. I would not feel safe with that overly sensitive, emotionally reactive, and totally unempathetic technician wielding a laser at my legs. This whole operation seems like a joke, and it’s been hell trying to schedule even one appointment with them, let alone 6. I’ve requested a full refund, since they are now cancelling my THIRD attempt at scheduling my first appointment. I have no idea how this operation will stay in business with this level of service.

I even mentioned that her attitude and refusal to acknowledge her/​their part in this fiasco, as well as her impulsive phone call back to tell me how rude I was, was going to result in a negative Unilocal review. She said that she didn’t care. So here it is.
Good luck, Calhoun Natural Medicine. You need it. And you should seriously hire someone to answer the phone, unless you’re already under water. Getting a company’s voice mail 100% of the time is very poor customer service, and obviously your technicians who make their own calls are not putting your best face forward.
