Specialties
Do you love adventure? Kayak the Mississippi on the ultimate Minnesota urban paddle tour! Our tours range from a glimpse into the industrial history of Minneapolis to an exploration of the only gorge on the whole river. Our popular Brunch Cruise and Twilight Supper Cruise are social tours that stop for a bite and a drink at a restaurant along the river.
Above the Falls Sports has experienced guides on every trip, so come prepared to explore the Mississippi River Valley like you’ve never anticipated. From out-of-town guests to native residents, beginners to experienced paddlers, we love to share lasting memories that won’t soon be forgotten. Kayaking the stretch of the Mississippi passing through Minneapolis and St Paul is a unique opportunity to paddle past both parkland and industry. When people ask you where the most beautiful view is in the Twin Cities, we’re confident you’ll say «from the water.»
History
Established in 2009.
The boathouse was set up in downtown Minneapolis in August of 2009. Our first full season of paddling was the summer of 2010. Each year Above the Falls Sports has enjoyed sharing the wonder of paddling with more and more people. We now employ fifteen guides and operate over 5 distinct tours 7 days a week throughout the summer and into the fall.
Meet the Business Owner
Bob S.
Business Owner
When our owner and Chief Boat Handler, Bob, moved to downtown from south Minneapolis he immediately took advantage of his proximity to the Mississippi River. An avid paddler and rower, Bob explored the river within the Twin Cities and beyond. He soon realized that this river is sorely underused for man-powered recreation, and he sought to build a business that promotes paddling fun and fitness on the Mississippi.
Bob is also fascinated with the importance of St Anthony Falls and the Mississippi River to the establishment of Minneapolis. All of our guides have learned from Bob about the industrial history of the river and we enjoy sharing this important and continuously relevant knowledge with our guests.
