Earthquake 2011

I was on the massage table at Massage Envy in Marlton, NJ when the little one struck. It was like the proverbial ‘it felt like a train was going by, rattling the building’. It was a weird sensation as I was laying down… with my head stuffed into the face cradle of the table.
The message therapist and I share this bond.

Don’t ever wanna go through this again! My favorite mirror broke :-/​However, the earthquake did provide some comedic comfort by how everyone had that dumb wtf happened face on for the rest of the day, lol.

Saying so in a public forum will reveal just how out of the loop I am. I wasn’t even aware that Earthquake existed until I received a text message 10 minutes after it’s première. True I was rolling along in a remote corner of Delaware at the time, but still, someone might have given me a heads up. Sigh. Another Elite event to which I have not been invited, not even as a plus one.

Sorry guys, I ate a bunch of beans that morning and… well, you know the rest of the story.

I have to document the overblown hysteria of this week’s natural disasters (better over than under though). As a Californian, yeah, I’m insufferable and didn’t get too frazzled. Two stars for getting out of work early. And the new trend of adding «–mageddon» or «-pocalypse» on the end of every big event was amusing.
Plus I had to bikeshare home (after waiting for a bike since the city center was clear out of ‘em). In a skirt. Up a hill. Around Cap Hill security. And almost ended up on 395 a couple times.
But it definitely beat out wimpy Earthquake 2010.

Where was I when the infamous earthquake of 2011 hit???
I was laughing out here in San Francisco! Listen, I know an earthquake can be scary if you’ve never felt one, but it isn’t armageddon because your house shook for a few seconds. To put this in retrospect, the day the East Coast had their quasi apocalyptic tremor, we had a 4.0 earthquake out in the Bay Area. This is how it went down «Did you feel that?» «Yes I did!» «Ok good night!»

I can’t really give an honest review of Earthquake 2011 because I only visited once at lunchtime and it was very brief. It was a reputable Earthquake, however; and received 5.9 stars so I got what I was promised but the portions were just so small. I thought it would be more satisfying. It just barely satisfied the rumbly in my tumbly. I’ve seen pictures and footage of great Earthquakes around the world and thought that having a new Earthquake right here in Baltimore would be pretty cool. I mean, people have been dying to check this out for years, right? I hear it’s where all the movers and shakers hang out.

I found the recent temblor somewhat anticlimactic. I was expecting something on the order of «2012» but instead got just a short jolt. While it did add some much needed excitement to a slow day, I can’t recommend this earthquake for future visits. Perhaps other offerings down the road will demonstrate more panache, and I’ll be sure to write an update then.

I recently attended Earthquake 2011 as part of a work day outing with my co-​workers and was actually somewhat disappointed.
Having seen footage of similar events put on by the organizers of Earthquake 2011, this one seemed extremely low-​key, lacking energy and the drama that usually goes along with these types of things.
Despite being high up, my building did not get sheared in half, which meant that I did not have to climb down the remains of a stairwell. Disappointing.
There were no explosions, random sirens (ok, a few), looting, cracks opening in the earth to swallow people whole, flooding, or buildings falling down, which really impacted the visual and audio experience.
I will, however, say that I am saddened to report the falling down of one book on my home shelf. It was righted but may never recover from the shock.
You can do better, Earthquake organizers.

I was at the best place to be during an earthquake, the dentist’s office. The chair started shaking something fierce. There were no tiny metal objects in my mouth at the time, thankfully… just some less scary tools. I live by Lafarge in Cockeysville and they blast rocks and stuff from time to time. This earthquake could have been more intense, but at least no one was hurt… just a little shook up.
I’ll give it three stars.

My story goes a lot like Elsa’s. I was sitting at the kitchen counter, minding my own business and tapping away at my computer when I felt a rumble. At first, I thought it was a heavy truck going down the street, but as the vibrations picked up and the (not very steady) bookcases started to sway, I got a little panicked. Was the foundation of the house giving way? Were the new neighbors moving something really heavy? Or… were they getting into something freaky deaky in the middle of the afternoon?
I opened the apartment door and glanced at the staircase below, but no one seemed to be home. At least, no one was rushing to the nearest escape route. As I debated my survival chances between running down the steps or making a jump off the balcony if the house really were to come down, everything stopped. And then I went back to Unilocal,where the word «Earthquake» shined up at me from the Talk section.
Four stars for the excitement, minus one for the natural disaster aspect.

Well, I am not really a fan, but it does deserve 4 stars. I mean really? An earthquake around these parts?! UNHEARD OF! Especially since its effects could be felt everywhere from Chicago to the west, Toronto and beyond in the north, NYC to the east, and Atlanta in the south!
I was working from home when all of a sudden the house started to move. I thought it was construction nearby or someone hit something, but then the shaking got more and more, some pictures fell of the countertops, and the glasses in the cabinets began to rattle. Hubby yelled to me to get in the closet, which I did. The only bright side is that the earthquake was so short! Over before it hit a minute, but man, was it scary! I know folks from California will think we are babies, but if you aren’t used to the Earth shaking out of the blue (like the majority of people in this country, btw), that is some frightening stuff. I am from the midwest originally where we get tornados, but at least you know when those may have a chance of hitting. Same thing with hurricanes. Earthquakes? You are just sitting there one minute and bouncing around the next. Weird, Weird, Weird. I am glad not many people got hurt, but a few did hence the deduction of 1 star.

I found this earthquake to be a very satisfying experience. At first I believed that someone had gained access to the blocked-​off fourth floor above my apartment and was concerned for my security. However, after finding that the cause of the noise and movement was geological rather than anthropological, I was immediately reassured. The movement lasted long enough to be noticeable, so that I too can say «I felt the earthquake,» but not long enough to be distressing. I particularly appreciate the lack of injuries/​fatalities and major damage. Overall, I am pleased with my first earthquake experience. I cannot say I would elect to experience another in the future, but I will keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to visit Southern California in the future.
