Winthrop-University Hospital

I have absolutely had it with this place. My 6 month old was admitted yesterday at around 2 p.
Anyway, besides the fact that I had to beg for baby formula and it took 36 hrs to get some damn Vaseline…
The nurses decided to «rearrange» the iv line in my baby’s hand (I begged them to place it in his arm vs hand bed the hand hurts so freaking much). Shortly thereafter, he began to whine in discomfort and the machine’s alarm went off every 5 minutes or so. Someone or another would come in and turn it off and go back about their business.
His iv line was then flushed by a nurse who seemed to have the hardest time getting the meds in … I was a bit worried about that.
Long story short, my baby was screaming for about 20 minutes and the aid came in asking «why is he screaming like that?» And proceeded to check his temperature (rectal) even though he wasn’t warm and the same aid stated that she wouldn’t do rectal temp due to him having diarrhea (about 2 hrs earlier).
After she left and he was screaming even louder I decided to remove the sock that was placed over his iv only to discover that his hand and arm was swollen like a water balloon.
Now he’s sleeping and we (my husband and I) are worried. We asked for another pull out chair and was denied it because only one per patient by the nurse.
The Dr then said of course we can have another chair and left to have someone bring it to us but later returned to let us know that the nurse refused stating that the chairs would stay in the rooms (the freaking place is empty! It’s a damn blizzard!) just in case they get patients. Really? I’ll never return and I’ll make sure I blog every detail of this stay.
YOU GUYS MESSED UP AND A FREAKING CHAIR FOR A WORRIED PARENT IS THE LEAST THAY YOU CAN DO.

I have been unsuccessful in reaching the President of this hospital to register a complaint about a condition my mother developed during a stay, and she should not have been released in this condition. My email was responded to two weeks later with a vague message that the complaint was being reviewed by the Quality Care department. At the beginning of Mom’s stay, like other unfortunate people, I waited hours for Mom to be seen, though she was taken in by ambulance for an acute condition. That turned out to be the least of our problems.

This place is horrible it’s a zoo! Patient care is not the first thing on their agenda. Either they need more staff or better management. You could die in the emergency room find another place to go if you’re sick. 4 hours later still waiting to be seen.

i was in the hospital could have possibly had a stroke walked in and could not speak have ms. had a attack at the hospital no medical staff to help not a good hospital waited 6 hours in the emergency room was not happy went to lij n for the same issue they took me in right away and was not happy the patients in the lobby were more friendly then the staff need more docs on staff, transporters and more staff no what emergencies are.
