Costa Nova Waffle

Tasty, sweet and delicious! I was sort of in the area running errands and knew this would be my last stop. It is a small shop with sitting room for about 6 people and they offer two different kinds of waffles: bolacha — crispy flat waffle, or tripa — soft flat waffle. I got the bolacha w/​nutella and strawberries. It was delish! You can’t go wrong with nutella! The crispy flat waffle is similar to the waffle cones you get at ice cream shops and I absolutely love those. I didn’t have any issue with it burning my mouth like some are complaining about, it was just warm. Some people just like to complain. I also tried their cappuccino and it was just okay. Smooth, but not as creamy as I liked it to be. If you’re around, give them a try! It is only ~ $ 5 (+ 0.75 if you want to add fruit).

They have fresh made to order thin crêpe like waffles … Choice of crispy or soft with fresh add ins. not sure which is more delicious … They have Portuguese sparkling fruit drinks that are great. So worth stopping in.

was looking for new places on Unilocal and came across Costa nova. easy to miss but a very nice little place. Staff is friendly and the coffee and waffles are very good

Tiny tiny tiny spot down the block from Winthrop. Interesting concept that has me craving more. Shared the uvos or whatever it’s called and the s’mores in a soft waffle. Both were delicious. They serve Mighty Leaf Tea which is another plus for me. Make sure you pee before you go in because there’s no bathroom!

So yummy! Had the Nutella and Banana soft waffle, and was not disappointed! The ladies were super nice and the place just overall had a great atmosphere.

Mineola is slowly becoming a destination spot with all it’s great restaurants and local shopping and Costa Nova Waffle just adds to that mix.
This is a small (really small) shop on Second Avenue. The store is owned by two sisters and when you hear them speak about the place you know it was built on love.
I had the Nutella soft Waffle and it was outstanding! The waffle was soft and chewy and the Nutella was and always is delicious. The coffee was also an outstanding item (I really do love my coffee.) They also have cappuccino, espresso, Portuguese fruit juices and Galao a hot drink from Portugal made of espresso and foamed milk. It’s similar to a caffè latte or café au last.
There are a few stools available. The team here is outstanding. They love what they do and seeing the smiles on the faces of their customers definitely put a smile on their face.
To quote Monica Olivera when they discussed her shop in the Mineola American Newspaper: «The waffle comes in soft (tripa) and crispy (bolacha) form. The former is undercooked, with the consistency of a crêpe, folded over into a square pocket. The latter is folded into a „fan-​like“ waffle cone. It’s not the traditional waffle that you would think of it’s a hybrid between a crêpe and a waffle cone.»

Came here for the first time with my girlfriend last week. Inside, the décor is great and very modern. We talked with the owners (brother and sister) who worked at the counter. Both were extremely friendly and welcoming.
I decided on the soft twix waffle, which was divine. My girlfriend got a soft chocolate one. Not only did they help us with the menu, they also let us sample whatever we wanted.
All in all, a great hidden gem. Will be coming back for the hard waffles soon!

A gem — Portuguese style crisp or soft waffle! So good!

I went here today since my friend loves waffles & read about it on Unilocal.It’s right near the mineola lirr station which is nice since I can stop by before or after taking the train.
Although it’s not what you would think of when you hear waffles my friends & I loved it! I got the soft twix and one of my friends got the soft snickers since we love those candy bars. Our other friend got the crispy nutella waffle. It was nice and warm and we all enjoyed what we got. It was definitely a nice sweet treat I would recommend to all my friends.
What I thought was even better was the great customer service and friendliness of the girl who worked there. She was so sweet and welcoming. The store is small but cute. I love how it’s decorated.
I also got the green tea which was one of the fancier brands that I’ve ever tried. I thought it was really good too!
I don’t usually write reviews but I liked the place and the staff that much to do so.

Do you remember if a bank robber would try to rob McDonalds, grabbing a nearby glass pot with hot coffee, the robber would be scaled?! Screaming: MY FACE! IT’S MELTING!
Yeah, well McDonalds coffee is now piss warm but what’s being served at Costa Nova Waffle will melt the paint off my car.

I was looking for coffee after lunch. I see a few reviews for Costa Nova Waffle. I’m thinking maybe they’ll be small, cookie size waffles to have with my coffee. Nope
I walk into a tiny store. I mean, my broom closet can kick its ass. It’s small! If you’re looking for a place to work and eat a waffle? Nope, not the place. There is only one A/​C outlet and a few wooden stools to sit. Not very accommodating for teleworking
I ask the two ladies behind the counter, I want coffee and something small to try. They recommend a waffle and I ask to try the coffee that’s sourced straight from Portugal. Interesting. The coffee wasn’t too bad!
I’m told the local folks from Portugal love these waffles and eat them on the beach.
Dang! Well put another shrimp on the barbie!
My waffle comes out. I ask for a knife and fork and was told, I really don’t need them? The people on the beach in Portugal eat these waffles and don’t use knifes.

I take a bite of this folded square stuffed with Nutella.
When you heat Nutella and trap it inside a waffle, the filling takes on the characteristics of Napalm. In my mouth no less. Burning, molten magma hot…
I ask for a knife, spoon, anything. Yeah yeah, the people on the beach never have an issue…
I’m trying to tear apart this thing, I have chocolate all over my fingers, thank God its Friday and I’m not suited up!
All said and done, Um. I don’t think I’m a fan. Also, all of these reviews are done by folks who have written very few Unilocal reviews. Use your judgement, Your call. If your at the train station and want to grab a waffle? Make sure it cooled down…

The best small and cute place in town. Literally small. Delicious soft or crispy waffles that are a cross between a waffle and a crêpe.
The soft and crispy are definitely both delicious, although I prefer each with different fillings. For example, I think the s’mores works better in a soft waffle than a crispy one.
All the fillings sound delicious. The only ones I’ve tried are the ovos moles (sweet custard. I prefer this in a crispy waffle), s’mores and Nutella.
They also have these little custard tarts by the cashier (I believe they’re pastel de nata) which are also very good.
Their coffee is delicious, the girls made me a heavenly hazelnut latte. I mean it was delightful, you could taste the freshly steamed milk in your mouth. Just perfect.
If you’re ever around this is a must try! You will be hooked!

Costa Nova Waffle is the tiniest and cutest place in Mineola. Adorned in pops of turquoise blue, it is nestled into place a block away from Winthrop Hospital.
Choose between a crispy or soft waffle and finish it off with one of several fillings. The crispy waffles are very thin and remind me of crispy crepes, or pizzelle cookies. They fold into a large handheld snack. The soft waffles are of similar size and width to the crispy waffles (they’re definitely not Belgian waffle sized), but they fold into sandwiches around whatever filling you’ve chosen. Options include the ovos moles (a custard that is too good to be true), Nutella, Twix, Snickers, and s’mores. There’s also usually a special filling of the day. And sometimes there are off-​menu pastry treats, including one that’s essentially an ovos moles-​filled hand pie.
The coffee is also great, whether you get a latte, cappuccino, or regular coffee, and there’s a nice tea selection. I especially like getting the iced coffee and drinking it with the cute turquoise-​and-​white striped straws that match the walls. There’s a punch card for a free coffee after so many (it’s not 10, but I don’t remember the number), and they hang them for customers all along the wall behind the counter. I think that’s pretty cool.
Finally, there’s a number of little trinkets and snacks, like magnets and chocolates, if you’re in the market for those.
All in all, Costa Nova is a great little place. I just wish they opened earlier on Saturdays for a brunch to go option.

Nice little shop run by two very nice sisters. Fantastic waffles can be grabbed to go very easily or enjoyed in shop.

Was lucky enough to find this place open on New Years. They make thin, large, soft or crispy ‘waffles’, that more resemble crepes, and the chocolate crispy was a winner. Get a shot of espresso in the coffee for a good compliment to the sweetness of the waffle. Top notch place. I will no doubt try some other flavors.

Waffles and the selection are great it’s inexpensive the have a wonderful store front it’s cute on the inside the owners are very nice. I had the PB&J and also the Ovo Moles I’m not fat don’t judge me it was just that good. I loved both of them I will be back for some more of different flavors.

My husband and I were going through our Unilocal list and after searching for a few minutes and passing it twice because you can easily miss this place, we found it and it’s a great hidden gem! The owners (brother&sister team) were very pleasant and friendly. I got the crispy waffle crêpe with s’mores filling and hubby had his with snickers. OH.MY.GOD. honestly the waffle is so good you don’t even need the filing. It was perfectly crisp at the top and so light you can easily eat it entirely in one sitting, which I did :). Our only slight sadness was that because they put the waffles in the little bags, the bottoms don’t get as crispy as the top gets; still delicious nonetheless! Hope they stick around because we will be back!

I can’t post a picture at this place because I devoured my waffle so quickly. This is a very cute little shop with a great location if you work in the hospital or you’re traveling at Mineola train station.
This place is tiny but super cute. The woman who works there is a very very sweet and whether or not she’s the owner or whoever the owner is, they put a lot of care into making this place very cute. It’s got a warm feel and nice colors. The woman who worked there today is again very sweet. She and I chatted with almost like we were friends even though I’ve never been there before. I don’t know how she doesn’t go crazy when they’re not busy and she’s the only one there at least majority of the day. But again very pleasant and warm.
My waffle was delicious as I said above I devoured it quite quickly. It was large so it was nice and filling. But it definitely could’ve used more chocolate. That’s the one I got the chocolate crispy waffle. And while it was delicious it was deathly missing something I’m not sure what. But I’ve had crapes before that were just… Better for some reason. This was yummy but just missing something that I can’t quite put my finger on. They have really good coffee. And overall the prices are reasonable may be a little expensive but overall worth it. I’m not sure when I’ll be back because I’m not always in that area but I wouldn’t be opposed to going back.

Hidden gem! You can get the waffles crispy or soft. Decided to go with the crispy smores waffle. AMAZING! Perfect for an afternoon snack.

This quaint little waffle shop opened recently and I’m already a big fan. With the small space this is located in, I was expecting a little food place such as frozen yogurt or ice cream. Perhaps even a bakery. To my pleasant surprise it is something even more creative and new that you will be hard pressed to find around here.
These guys make waffles filled with special delicious fillings. These aren’t your typical belgian waffles but are more like a cross between waffles and crepes. I believe the origin of these is portuguese.
The waffles are either crispy or soft, it is your choice. For my first time I had the s’mores waffle (soft) and it was great. Nice and hot, gooey and delicious. It’s gonna be hard to adhere to my diet now that these guys are a stones throw away from where I live.
Their coffee looks fresh brewed too. Nice little spot to come grab a treat for yourself and a nice hot cup of coffee for the colder days ahead.
