Miller Upholstering

Before the Miller Upholstering shop on Lake Street opened, I met Helen in Saint Paul through her blog. I had searched around trying to find an experienced upholsterer that would allow me to select my fabric and use on an old piece of furniture. She patiently worked with me on our first «project» — a $ 5 thrift store chair with fabric from SR Harris. Her skills as an upholsterer, eye for details, and sense of what would be best for the chair has made it catch the eye of guests who come over. One sofa, two pillow classes, and two chair classes later, we have an abundance of projects and fabrics that show Helen’s skill and amazing ability as a craftsperson.
The shop itself is a delight of the senses and looking at the fabrics she has in the store fuels more chair, sofa, and pillow projects in my mind. And, I know that there’s one more month for the Chinook book coupon… If you’ve had the dream of restoring that old Baker club chair from your grandma or Danish sofa from your parents, send photos to Helen, finally get the project done, and you’ll be amazed with the results.

I’m a fan of mid-​century modern style and Helen at Miller Upholstering has pure enthusiasm and appreciation for the era. It was truly delightful to work with her while reupholstering three of the chairs in my home. She was very honest and forthcoming with pricing and explaining her process and was able to help me find the right look for my budget. She also took the time to talk to me about choosing the right kind of fabric for my chairs.
I was very happy with the quality of workmanship. As soon as my cats are done destroying the chairs, I plan to have Helen recover them again!
I was also surprised to find that Miller Upholstering has a wide variety of fabric samples onsite as well as unique vintage pieces, pillows, chairs, buttons, fabric, remnants, etc. for sale. Definitely worth the trip to the shop!
