We’ve been a fixture in downtown Milwaukie for years, providing local comics fans a convenient option for following the likes of Spider-​Man, Superman, Hellboy. New comics and graphic novels arrive every Wednesday, and we’ve also got a great selection of statues, action figures, geeky apparel, and gaming supplies.

History

Established in 1979.

After incorporating in 1979, Mike Richardson opened the first Things From Another World store – just 400 square feet – in Bend, Oregon on January 1, 1980. We were brought into this world with a $ 2,500-limit credit card and a dream: to sell a wide range of comics and offer excellent customer service to our customers. We were also born with another name, Pegasus Books, but decided Things From Another World was more our style in the ‘90s (we were considering a symbol, a la Prince, but we were talked out of it).

Over the last 30 years we have grown and expanded, now offering stores in Milwaukie, Portland, and Beaverton, Oregon, as well as our Universal Studios Citywalk location in Los Angeles, California. Today, we’re one of the largest comic book retailers in the nation, but our purpose remains the same: to have an outstanding selection of comic books, graphic novels, toys, statues, and other pop culture-​related goodness, and to take special care of our customers.

Good times in Milwakie! We had a great time visiting with the clerk at TFAW. Picked up a couple of back issues there and had a good conversation with the clerk. Will certainly stop in next time we’re passing through or moving to Portland like everyone else in the world.

This is such a great store, very organized and staffed by some of the nicest people.
Shawn and crew will go out of their wAy to ensure you or your kids find what you might need, be looking for or not know that you need it yet.
They host games where kids of all ages can sit down together and play whatever game is the flavor of the day.
The kids enjoy going in here so much that they will often ask to stop in and look around even if they know they won’t be buying anything. They also like the staff so much that they often ask to bring in candy for them on our visit.
Stop in — say hello and get some of your Christmas shopping out of the way!!!

I consider it an honorable thing to try and make an extra effort to patronize local independent businesses. However, most other comic stores in the greater Portland area simply can’t compete with this store. TFAW carries a huge variety of collectibles, comics, cards, toys, games and more. The staff are cool, knowledgeable and friendly folk. Their email newsletter is packed with awesome information. It’s just a fun place to browse and talk shop as well. Their quality customer service and the well stocked store have won me over.

Amazing store.
A huge selection of comics, an even bigger selection of graphic novels and the best place in Portland to get import figures! Figuarts, Figma, Robot Spirits, this place has it all.
The staff is super friendly as well, and even though I don’t go in that often (my main store is the Portland TFAW store), they still remember who I am and ask me how I enjoyed my past purchases.

Sean is the man I took my mom there for a son and mom day we did lunch and other things and her fav part was the the comic store she wanted to find a book for her and Sean helped her find a few. OH MY GOD WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA!
I just moved to the area and have walked past this shop many times always wanting to go in. I love comics, I love rpg but I don’t really know what I’m talking about or what I even like. I came in with some family from out of town because my younger cousin loves all of that stuff. I think I was the most excited though because I didn’t realize the INSANE collection of things they had.
The staff is so friendly and welcoming. I asked about groups that come in for D+D and they said that there is actually a group for Pathfinder (which I’ve always wanted to play!) and they invited me to come back and they’ll introduce me to some of the people in the gaming community. I really am having a hard time w/​lack of friends in the area and also being incredibly bored so it meant so, so much to me.
So thank you so much, I’ll be back!

I am new to comics, but everyone at TFAW Milwaukie have made this new hobby absolutely AWESOME for me. Sean has helped me find new titles to read and always has an honest recommendation for you based not necessarily off of what HE likes, but based off of what he knows that you like. I love TFAW. Friendly staff, great merch selection, easy access to parking, fun events… We go frequently and have a great time whenever we do. Tip? Become a box customer (you sign up to get certain comics automatically) and you get an extra discount on everything in the store!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! I cannot leave without buying something. I am super addicted. And the people are not some antisocial losers with asthma who drool and primp when they see a girl walk in. Although, some of the other patrons are a little on the «I live in my mothers basement and I am a 10th level dungeon master» type of people. The friendly clerks give good advice when it comes to «if you like this, you’ll love that» kind of stuff. I think whether you dabble in geekdom, or roll in the TARDIS aftershave, you will love shopping here! Allons-​y!!!

The Milwaukie TFAW is as good as it gets. They have a great selection of comics, graphic novels, toys, table top games, you name it. It isn’t too terrible big nor is it over crowded. The staff is what really makes this place shine, everyone is always eager to help you find what you are looking for, if they don’t have it in stock, they will call up one of their other stores to see if they do, they will even have it shipped to their store so you don’t have to go driving all over town. The manager, Sean is awesome and always makes you feel welcome! I strongly suggest setting up a box subscription that way you can save up to 20% (depending on how much you spend each month) on some merchandise. I often find myself spending more money than intended when I go here!

Just awesome! If they haven’t got it, they can find it and the staff almost always knows a LOT about it! Turned me on to The Walking Dead back when Issue #2 was current and Proof #1. Excellent library of trade paperbacks as well as current monthlys. You just cannot go wrong here.

I’m a long time fan of Things From Another World going back more than 25 years when it was Pegasus Comics. The store has managed to be on the cutting edge of popular culture all those years without skipping a beat or missing a trick.
Wednesday on new comics day, the place is packed with friendly folks all talking about their favorite whatever in an atmosphere that feels more like the set of «Cheers» than a retail store. TFAW is a treat not to be missed by any lover of kitsch or comic books.

I have only been to this store 3 times. The first was when I first moved here and was determining my favorite store, the second was free comic book day, where my friend was recruited to help work to keep up pace and the third was today.
I am going to focus on today because the other two times were flukey because they had heavy traffic for free comic book day and I went in just before closing the first time, so it was also flukey.
I just got back from school where there are no comic book stores and they were having a sale here today (‘all’ back issues $.50). I thought, perfect time to catch up. What I didnt know was that it was only selected back issues, and I ended up paying more that I was expecting.
When I walked in the girl started telling me all the sales, but gave up because I didnt say anything in response, but she was talking so that was pretty confusing, so it was never specified to me that only the back issues on the back wall were $.50
While I was trying to check out, she was to busy yelling at a def customer to realize I didnt have my money because she checked my bag. She then went to complain about the man as she handed me my bag. While I was figuring out with my sister how we were going to split the tab (because we share comics) she looked at me and said «I asked you for more than $ 20».
I get that people have bad days, but when you work a customer service job you have to get over it, I have been there. But this in association with my other two not so great experiences here have really made me not want to go back.
If you’re in the Portland area, I would recommend BridgeCity Comics, and if you’re in the metro area, I say make the drive to Beaverton’s TFAW.

I found TFAW to be very helpful to Me. I was in search of a hard to find recent X-​Men book, and they took the time to look for it. I called several Comic Stores, and they were all sold out or shorted issues.
When I called TFAW in Milwaukee, the Gal that answered listened to what book I needed, took the time to look for it, then offered to hold it for Me. I am very Grateful for the help, and now I am caught up on X-​Men; «Battle of The Atom»!

Where do you go when you need a TARDIS? Duh, you go to Things From Another World.
I was invited to a Doctor Who dinner party and could not show up without something relevant so I was on a mission to find a particular Dr. Who Mug. Alas they did not have it in stock but they did have an entire section of delightful Dr. Who things for me to choose from. If price was not an issue in my current lifestyle I would have easily layed down a hundred bucks or more on splendid Dr. Who items. Instead I struck to my budget and left as the proud owner of a TARDIS that has sound effects and a light on top as well as a new key chain that has 6 sound effects that are commonly recognized by Who fans.
The single staff person on a Sunday morning was super helpful and friendly.
