Wisconsin Cheese Mart

Pretty touristy.
Reasonably large selection of cheeses. Definitely not the largest selection in the area, but a good one nonetheless. Small selection of meats. They also sell lots of Wisconsin tourist trinkets. Expensive.
In my opinion, the only reason to come here is if you are at the pretty good über brew pub next door.

Stopped by this shop while giving a tour of downtown, and sampled some delicious cheese. The cashier/​worker was very friendly and knowledgeable, explained how one cheese was made in great detail! The store also offers tips on how to store the cheeses if you’re looking to bring them on a plane with you and how long they can be stored, which is very helpful for those looking to bring a taste of Wisconsin home with them.
Along with the cheese, the store also sells beers, summer sausage (venison, bison and others), and crackers. Great place!

Only went here for the cheese samples and THEY WERE INCREDIBLE! How could you not love a free cheese fest? The staff were friendly, there were over 20 cheese options to try. Some of the «extra» items, like crackers, were overpriced, so go elsewhere if you’re building a home-​platter, but otherwise this place was great and a must visit in Milwaukee. Also, it’s in a great part of town, so there is a lot to check out.
On a side note, I came here on another visit to Milwaukee and had the beer and cheese platter next door, which was just OK, so I’d go elsewhere, like Rumpus Room, for a great platter.

This is my new stop on Sundays when I’m walking around downtown. Why? Because I said so!
There is so much cheese here. It’s like they took all the best stuff from the markets and and crammed it into a little shop with a cow out front. All the cheese here is top notch. Last week I bought some brie. Because I wanted it. No other reason. I didn’t need it for dinner, but it was going to make dinner better. That is the magic of cheese. Aged cheese, fruity cheese, string cheese, moldy cheese. Any cheese you want, it’s probably in here somewhere. Unless you stop in on Sunday afternoon, because I can never find the Clockshadow cheese curds. I’m always too late to that party.
Do you like shirts? Magnets? Candy? Maybe beer? That’s in the back past the cheese if you can make it. They sell honey too. Probably some other things. Honestly I really pop in here just for cheese. And Wisco Pop! soda.
I love that all the staff I’ve encountered so far have been helpful in times when I needed to find that perfect cheese for what I’m baking. The staff are as passionate about selling cheese as I am about eating it. They are also great at cutting up free samples of cheese. Would you like to put together a gift basket for someone? They can help with that. Not sure how to pronounce Camembert? They can help with that too.
Since it’s downtown you can bet there isn’t a private parking lot but there is a lot of street parking. Even if you’re a few blocks off, it’s worth the walk. You don’t have to stop in every week like I do, but who knows, you may want to.
Buy cheese. Live deliciously.

Not really a tourist spot, not really a foodie place. So what is it?
It’s just a cheese shop in the downtown area. Prices are on the high side, and there’s very little information about the selection, though there are plenty of toothpicks so you can try things.
I bought the five-​year-​old cheddar, and it’s darn good. Didn’t buy anything else, and spent much less time in the store than I expected. It’s just not a fun place to be.

Siri directions were terrible. The food was good but our service was epically and I mean epically slow. It took an hour and a half to get some macaroni and cheese and a grilled cheese sandwich.

tons of samples of cheese to try, you can get full here and the service is excellent. i really love extra sharp and spicy cheeses and the guy working there knew exactly which blocks to cut and i would voraciously eat. they only thing you could not try was some spotted cow ;)
parking is very hard to come by unfortunately. we came here twice and had to pay both times.
we also had a coupon, courtesy of lakefront brewere, for a ten percent discount, which was a blessing. we brought tons of cheese back for folks in dc, who loved the tasty snack

I’m originally from WI and I miss good quality cheese that I just cannot find in PA. Thus, I order cheese from WI Cheese Mart. They have free 2 day shipping if you spend a certain amount. They package the cheese well in a foam carton with ice packs. They have my favorite Springside Pepper Jack Cheese in convenient ½ pound packs. Wide selection of tasty cheese. I place online orders several times a year. Yum!

I was told by one of our hosts that we MUST go to the Cheese Mart and load up on some curds. It was the local thing to do. Nom!
We raided the fridges and got some great cheddar, string cheese, curds, and more curds. We also packed in some tchotchke’s at check out.
Not sure if I’ll be back to actually chill at the bar, but I will definitely be doing cheesy mail order.

I expected a predictable cheesy-​toursit spot and was pleased to find that Wisconsin Cheese Mart is actually a delightful place to visit. We started in the cheese shop without much interest in sampling and eventually wandered into the bar. We got a couple of fantastic Wisconsin beers and soon a man with a little tray full of samples walked up to us. He offered us a taste of a 12 year old cheddar that was so dang good, we decided we were taking a piece of it home right away. Turned out to be a little pricey, $ 25 for an 8 oz chunk, but we bought it anyway because it was so good! The guy with the samples also told us that we could take our drinks into the store and so we did and then we bought a few more cheeses and snacks.
Here is what really amazed me — Every employee was passionate about what they were selling. They made recommendations and shared stories and could tell you about the farmers who made the cheese. Next time we’re in Wisconsin we’ll have to go back!

A bit overhyped. Prices are kinda high.
Came here to pick up some specialty cheese on a recent trip. Parking was a nightmare in a half mile radius. The location is 1 block from the river front, so it definitely attracts a lot of tourists. I really liked that there was plenty of sample containers and toothpicks for people to try the different kinds of cheese. The selection is good but the prices are quite high. Quality wasn’t bad, more mediocre.
At check out, I tried to use the Unilocal check in discount of 10% off and was told that the purchase had to be more than $ 15. So I believed him. After coming out of the store, I looked at the Unilocal check-​in discount and it says 10% off of $ 10 or more. That was rather uncool.

Fun place. Many cheeses choose from. Some samples around but you will find what you want here. This is the type of place you have all over Wisconsin but they are always fun. I love a good Sharp Cheddar and they have several to choose from which is always great.

So after seeing a recent eposide of Man finds Food, I stopped in here during a work trip to the area. I am so glad i did, after all the cheese I am eating, think I may turn into a mouse.
Stopped in for lunch, grabbed up some of the free samples they had in the store side before walking into the bar area to grab lunch.
I ordered the Gourmet grilled cheese and split the classic mac and cheese with a friend.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. Gourmet grilled cheese had the right amount of cheese– think it was cheddar and gruyère, sundried tomato and schmear of garlic aoili.
The mac and cheese– was basic amazing mac and then they take panko crumbs with cheese that creates this amazing crust. Going to try it at home.

A combo of corner store cheese place/​bar. Tons of taps (36 to be exact) and great food items for little aperitifs (cheese/​sausage platters, mac & cheese, brats, grilled cheese, etc) Get yourself a beer flight if you’d like to try a variety of their brews. The bartenders are more than happy to pour an ounce taster before you commit to a full pint. There’s a lot of places to eat/​drink downtown, but this place definitely has its own leg to stand on. Bravo, Wisconsin Cheese Mart!

This is my first time being in a shop solely dedicated to cheese, but oh did I love it. I love all sorts of cheese. When I saw they had a bunch of samples laying around, it made me so happy. They had aged swiss, portabella and chives and some fruity ones. There were so many I couldn’t decide on which one to get for my dad (the person who gave me my cheese-​lover genes).
Luckily, I spotted the Gjetost cheese (a brown Norwegian cheese). It’s an acquired taste. It’s sweet and creamy and has a salty kick in the end. My late great uncle would bring my dad some every time he came to visit. I knew this would make my dad happy. For $ 6.50, it was a good price. It was the good Gjetost brand too, not the supermarket one they sell over there (the red cube packaging one).

Definitely a must when visiting Milwaukee. Hundreds of cheeses, sick selection of New Glarus and other local brews, and the best part… samples galore! Extremely friendly and helpful staff guided us to the cheeses and sausages we had some serious cravings for. They’re also one of the few places to sell rare seasonal and fruit ales from New Glarus. You can take your purchases to the adjoining Über Tap Room and taste away. Take it from us, grab some cheese, pull up a chair at the Tap Room, and melt away into harmonious gluttony.

My wife and I made a trip to Green Bay via Chicago and a rental car. Along the way, I’m so glad that we made a brief stop in MIlwaukee and hit the Wisconsin Cheese Mart!
We are both cheese lovers and this shop immediately caught my eye. It’s a must stop for anyone that shares that same passion. Who doesn’t like to try different cheeses? The best part of our visit was the many, many samples that are available. There are cheeses with coffee or caramel mixed in as well as your more traditional varieties. Of course giving everything a try is fun and gives you a good idea of what you might like to buy.
Next to the cheese shop is a restaurant that we did not stay to visit. However, it did serve beer and the guy at the register was making homemade mac and cheese. I’d assume that it would be pretty good.
This place is fantastic.

A short Trolley ride from the ward, this place has an amazing selection of cheese to taste, and a pretty good selection of beer too!
Great place to sit while waiting for the boat tours down the street.
Food is solid.
Good vibe.

So much cheese… so little time…
Those were my thoughts the first time I entered the Wisconsin Cheese Mart.
In every direction you turn there was row upon row of delicious cheese from Wisconsin and beyond.
Pick your poison — you like Cheddar. That’s fine but do you want it to be aged for 5, 10, 20 or 30 years. Cheddar not your thing (don’t say that out loud in WI mind you) then how about some Gouda, Swiss, or Farmer’s cheese. Not a fan of milk based cheese — no problem would you like your goat cheese plain or infused with fig or rosemary. Or maybe you are interested in something totally WI — cheese curds, those misshapen little pieces of cheese — yup WI Cheese Mart has you covered on that end as well.
Wait — look over there Chocolate Cheese! What??? — who knew they even made such a thing.
Oh and if you are not sure whether you will like a specific variety or cheese, chances are there is a sample somewhere in the store for you to try.
And if it strikes your fancy, on the other side of this retail store is a great bar serving some really awesome WI beers that you can pair with the cheese you purchased at the Cheese Mart or have them make up a beer/​cheese pairing for you.
In addition they sell gel paks so that you can bring your cheese back without spoiling.
Since my first visit here several years ago I always make it a point to stop here before heading home to keep enjoying a little bit of WI back in the northeast.
**Pro-​tip — DO NOT pack goat cheese or any soft cheese in your carry on. That is the surest way to get pulled over by the TSA for «suspicious» looking cargo. (They thought it looked like CF4 — –oops!)

Wisconsin Cheese Mart is the place to go for all of your cheese needs. They have cheese curds, string cheese, cheddar, and many other varieties. They only have fresh cheese curds Wednesday through Saturday after 11 am. They do offer tastings of many of their cheeses so you can try before you buy.
They also have novelty items such as cheesehead hats, cheese ties and bow ties, shot glasses, t-​shirts, shot glasses, cheese slicers, etc.
There’s street parking that you will have to pay the meters until 6 pm. It’s an easy place to get to and the sausage store is right down the block.
