Toys R Us

The kids I babysit love Toys R Us and since their mom is doing a 3 day job here they will love this.

My car window was smashed and car was robbed the day after Christmas 12÷26÷14 and yes I was exchanging something with my 10 and 8 year old kids. When I came out to my vehicle, I was shocked to see glass everywhere. I reported this criminal act to the MPD and to the store manager. He promised I would get a call from corporate. Today is January 2 and the holiday is over now. Why have I not gotten a call back from corporate Toys R Us??? There are no surveillance cameras in the front park of their parking lot so although it was broad daylight (2:00 in the afternoon) when the robbery happened, there is no video camera to protect the innocent patrons shopping in the store. It’s an outrage! I went in to the store, spent $ 70, came out of the store and had to spend another $ 210 to replace the smashed in passenger window of my car. My car was ransacked so in addition to paying out of pocket to replace my automobile window, my purse/​wallet were stolen. Priceless family photos I carried in a mini album will never be recovered. I will never, ever step foot in to another Toys R Us again! When can I expect a call? Do I need to go to file an action in small claims court to get some action?

I got a confession to make. I’m a nerd.
And no, I’m not one of those «trendy nerds». I’m a real nerd, and that’s why I know this store better than most people on this site, and maybe even in the city. I first stepped foot in this place at four years old, and I never stopped visiting, even in my twenties. I have an addiction… I collect action figures.
I’ve literally been shopping here over 30 years. Maybe my rating is a little higher due to nostalgia, but it does get props for being the biggest toy store in the city.
I buy a lot of action figures, but I buy a lot less from here nowadays after Target bought out Toys R Us. The selection has dwindled down as the shelving has gotten much smaller. The clearance section is way too spread out, and last time I was there it was filled with Green Lantern toys from the summer of 2011 that should be marked down considerably, yet they just take up room when no one really wants them and they refuse to drop the clearance price any lower.
Even with these problems, I do find a lot of my Marvel toys here. While most guys Man Cave’s are full beer signs and sports memorabilia, mine is a revolving shrine to Marvel Comics/​Batman. While the Disney Store has been putting out super cool Marvel action figures as of late, you can still find some neat and unique ones here.
Watch the papers. Once in a great while they have a really good video game sale.
I want to take this opportunity to call out our beloved Rachel F. Rachel, you’re awesome, but you’re totally wrong about this place. First thing, why in the blue hell are you looking for kiddie pools in November? I know this is Wisconsin, but that’s ridiculous! Tricycles, robot arms, Ouija boards? What is this, 1986? You say those things to any kids and they’ll look at you stupid. Now it’s all about Monster High, Licensed Lego Sets and creepy Disney masks that are animatronic. This isn’t our Toys R Us anymore (even though I continue to shop here for myself… ugh, I’m such a loser!). Plus, while those Monster Truck/​Rocket Ship rides in front seem useless now, but once in a blue moon an adult will climb up in there and take a ride. Now that’s comedy!
Rachel is right about the Babies R Us section though. While its convenient to have a place to buy their cheap store brand formula close by (I swear it’s the same exact thing as Enfamil at half the cost), the clothes section isn’t anywhere close to big enough to do any kind of clothes shopping there. Every time we are in this store, we are the only people in this section, and next year we won’t even bother going into this section as she will be too big for almost everything they have in there. What a waste of valuable toy space!
As far as kiddie pools go, the ironic part is thats what this trip was for. This was in July and I had about 8 different small pools to choose from. I got my little one a pretty big pool (for a kiddie pool of course) that was hard plastic with a little slide on it for a measly $ 20.
Shopping here for my kid/Nephews/Nieces/friend’s kids is really easy figuring they have just about everything a kid could want. This place makes my Christmas shopping incredibly easy.

It’s a Toys R Us. Gets the job done. Nuff said. (sometimes the service at this location can be great and sometimes MIA.)

Then 4^th star is because I save gas by shopping at this location. Why are the baby stores all in Brookfield? If you need Babies ‘r Us stuff or have Babies ‘r Us gift cards, they’re good here. There is a fairly good selection of practical, non-​toy stuff, like pack-​n-​plays, diapers, formula, clothing, bibs, bottles, strollers, blankets, etc. The toy shopper traffic makes this a fairly maniacal shopping experience. Zoom in and zoom out is my motto.

Don’t get me wrong, I shop at this Toys R Us a few times a year, but damn if I don’t usually come out feeling skeeved out and used in some way.
Tip– slow your roll to your immediate left when entering the store. There you’ll find mega closeout deals and holiday stuff. Great for stocking stuffers and small gifts.
The shelves and store are usually in disarray here. Restocking is not a strong point, nor is picking up after the little hellions that tear through here.
Service here can be helpful and pleasant, or completely clueless. Hint: Don’t ask anyone under the age of 25 for help here. But can I blame those kids for being surly? I would hate people too if I had to work here.
On my last trip I had to ask for someone to open a special DVD case for some Special Edition of the Lion King. It was on Mega sale! Funny, it was cheaper than the regular movies sitting out on a shelf, but I still had to ask for someone to find the Key Master. Ugh.
Once the movie was secured, it was taken by the Key Master to her checkout station like it was the Holy Grail. Once she scanned it, it came up under the full price and she didn’t even notice. Luckily I questioned it. Then it took an extra 20 minutes for the situation to be righted, with nary an apology. Seriously! No one once said, «thanks for your patience».
Blech. Skeeved out and used again…

Do you guys remember Napoleon Dynamite?
Maybe not. I do. It was the last movie I actually saw in a theatre. (GASP! SHUDDER! WHAT IN SAM HILL IS WRONG WITH YOU, RACHEL?) I know, I know. Juvenile and ridiculous. Best to get over it quickly, though.
Okay, well… my point. Decroded. It’s a word Napoleon used in the movie to describe general degradation, or anything suffering from a state of serious lack, really.

I guess I just remember it differently. Of course I remember it differently! I was a kid, and Toys R Us used to be a magical wonderland of all things life-​affirming. But seriously. No kiddie pools? And they carry clothes? Toys R Us carries clothes? And I couldn’t even find good tricycles anywhere! Most of the robot arm grabber things were broken. And, no Ouija Boards to be found ANYWHERE.
Bor-​ING.
I did get a giant set of bowling pins, however… and on the super cheap. So score for that. Also, for the almost overly-​nice and overly-​talkative cashier. Also, they still have those things you can put your kid in that are probably full of weird germs and viruses… you know, the tiny rocket ships or monster trucks that just rock back and forth for awhile? Do kids even still like that stuff? They have the internet now, so they’re probably not nearly as amused by such things.
Go if need be, but expect to not know if they’ll be carrying what you’re looking for. And general decrosion. Expect that too.
