Hoppe Tree Service recently launched the opening of The Urban Wood Lab, a new local source for lumber and specialty cut wood. The concept of The Urban Wood Lab developed out of a straightforward goal– find the best use for urban wood. Traditionally, urban logs have been used mostly for firewood or ground up into a mulch product. We feel that there can be a higher and better use for these logs. Products include dimensional lumber, live cut wood slabs and furnished products. We also offer custom cutting, kiln drying and planing services.

Established in 2013.

Hoppe Tree Service has been a full service tree care company since 1972. Fueled by the tree service, The Urban Wood Lab opened in 2013. Traditionally, urban logs have been used mostly for firewood or ground up into a mulch product. An urban tree is best enjoyed while it is living. If it must be cut down, it is reassuring to know that it can live on in another form. Our goal is to transform this wood into a reclaimed product. It is now time to stop wasting our valuable urban wood and start putting it to work locally.

Business Owner

August and Fred Hoppe are third generation arborists. August is the companies general manager. He has a B.S. degree in Urban Forestry, and is an exam certified arborist (WI-​0477A). Fred Hoppe is the companies safety and training manager. Fred is a certified arborist (WI-​0565A) and he is also one of the nation’s first Certified Treecare Safety Professionals. (CTSP 0036).

Since opening the showroom in 2013, the brothers have been working tirelessly to bring their clients the finest hardwood products the greater Milwaukee area has to offer fueled by its family owned tree service. Through collaboration with local artisans and business visionaries, they hope to share their passion for transforming and utilizing the urban log with those who share the same sentiment.
